Wilson’s new $2,500 airless basketball

People are some serious wastoids.... That kind of dough is just causing chaos... When the dollar goes bust and it will due to things like this (Not just this...) then what... NOT being political. Just trying to inject some sort of "normalcy"... Something has to be worth something to cost what it costs.... Just trying to wrap around how that would be worth the price, I do that with a lot of things now. Many times I just do without versus paying what I do not want to pay...

It's pretty cool. Will be interesting to see where it goes.

Side note, I watch quite a few of that guy's tech videos. I strongly recommend watching one he did about AI movies a few days ago. Pretty nuts where we're headed.

That’s just scratching the surface.

And didn’t mean to poo poo the idea. Just think 2500 bucks is silly at this point in time. Could be a very cool future thing though.

As far as AI generated videos, you ain’t seen nothing yet. Look up Googles Gemini. It’s producing top notch quality videos for text alone.

It’s both exciting and terrifying at the same time. Especially considering people take stuff on the internet at face value.

It cannot end well without some sort of normalcy defining parameters. That is going to be the issue.... Who defines the parameters....

Did you see the video. Of the guy scoring how AI can track everyone in your house. Even through walls. With your router?

There are folks that will tell you something is worth whatever somebody is willing to pay for it. I get that, but my rebuttal to them would be what is a human life worth to you? If you have so much money that you can spend $2500 on something like this… why not spend it instead on helping a starving person in a third world country get some food, shelter, or medicine?

I am a capitalist through and through, mainly because no other system has proven to work as well. And I’m not trying to be judgmental. But I just couldn’t in good conscience drop that kind of money on something this silly.

For sure people can pay what they want to pay but at some point it will have to stop. (I am talking in general.) What that point is?.....

Been watching Marques Brownlee's tech reviews for what seems like 10-15 years now. I think he might have been the first YT personality who I subscribed to. He's got a great way of making technology easy to digest for anyone.

It would be nice if a ball was invented that could somehow pinpoint the last person to touch it on an out of bounds call so games won't be delayed 15-30 minutes, it seems by reviews. With technology what it is, I wouldn't be surprised if we see that soon.

Want to push even more people away from the sport? That's an excellent way to do it!

If a table saw can known when it's cutting a finger as opposed to a piece of wood, then a basketball should be able to have a tiny ass sensor which can relay pressure and motion changes.

Just like in tennis with the lines nowadays and in baseball with the the pitch cam for balls and strikes.

My first computer cost around that in today's dollars. It had 28 kilobytes of RAM and a gigantic 40 megabyte hard drive. I'd advise waiting a couple years after it hits the market when you'll be able to get one for $50.

One positive thing about AI videos, film crews won't need to worry about Alec Baldwin playing with guns anymore...

Probably because you, like me, grew up learning the hard way the value of money and how hard it is to earn it. We may spend a lot now, but we (most of us) stay within our means because we learned.

Today, there are WAY more semi-wealthy and wealthy people in America than there were when we were all kids (I grew up in the 80s in Kentucky), and those people are the ones paying this much for something like this. Then there are the Keep up with the Jones's types who love themselves some credit cards and will buy this just to be the first. And of course there's social media "look at me", regardless of the cost.

Just look at those Apple Vision or whatever they are headsets. I laughed when I saw the price at nearly $4500, but all over social media are idiots driving, jogging, and just doing stupid things with those moronic looking "goggles" on their heads.

If we think the propaganda machine is bad now, just wait. Tech is evolving faster than we can keep up or regulate. Very dangerous situation and most don’t realize it.
