I agree his D has been lacking and nobody yells and screams at the tv more about it when he loses his man but I do this with all our guys. Willis just seems to add points with whatever amount of minutes he is given the same can not be said for the other 3 big men. I don't care who it is one or more of them needs to up their game. Or just give up on scoring down low and play four guards and humphries or wyn to bang and rebound(dont really think this is the answer) I think all of our big men willis included as they are right now are no more than role players on a normal Calipari team since he has been here but this team is definitely not the norm.
If we were not playing Arkansas next I would go with the following:
Tyler - Briscoe
Murray - Briscoe
Willis - Mulder
Alex - Lee, Skal
Humphries - Wynard
This keeps 2 of our best 3 guards in the game at all times.
This keeps 2 guys who can rebound and shoot at the 3. (Willis cannot guard the SF! Well he better learn to if he is in this lineup.)
This keeps the 4 position well rested and 15 solid fouls.
Now I know many will scoff at my 5 position and we have no idea if Tai can chew gum and walk in a D1 game. My hope is they compete for time with each other by just being rebounders and not getting pushed out.
That said, I admit I have lost confidence in this team going very far in the tournament.
The value of Willis, Mulder, Hump, and Tai gaining valuable experience will only help the 5 starting freshmen next year.
We know how we start every season trying to get the team molded - except last year when we had valuable experience, now next year's experience will not be nearly as talented as last year but it will still be experienced with this lineup.
I'd rather have 6 unexperienced freshmen with these 4 upperclassmen plus Hawkins (maybe Skal?) having solid game experience than having:
6 frosh AND all upperclassmen (except WIllis and Dom) not having any experience.
I guess I am going all in on next year.
For those with faith we will turn it around this year, it looks silly, I am well aware.
