Shoot they already are indentured servants. According to ushistory.org...So because he plays basketball, he shouldn't cut his hair, shave, brush his teeth, talk to anyone besides his teammates, go to class, watch tv, eat, drink, sleep..
..I swear some of the posters on here would prefer that we go ahead and chain em up and just call them indentured servants.
Who gives a flying schmuck what these guys do with there personal lives..
Don't brush your teeth guys, you should be watching film
Each indentured servant would have their fare across the Atlantic paid in full by their master. [today that would be tuition]
A contract was written that stipulated the length of service — typically five years [each scholarship is a one-year contract, renewable for for up to 4-5 total years]
The servant would be supplied room and board while working in the master's fields. [room and board in exchange for playing a sport, sometimes literally on a "master's" field in the case of outdoor sports]
Upon completion of the contract, the servant would receive "freedom dues," a pre-arranged termination bonus. This might include land, money, a gun, clothes or food. [Diploma unless they leave early, then it's nothing unless you want to count being drafted as "pre-arranged" for the kids who are obviously going to be picked]
