Will we beat #1 Kansas without 1 of our 3 seven footers?

This early in the season, no way. Kansas is going to wins relatively easy...unless we come out firing 3's like Monk vs UNC. If we shoot lights out, we have a chance, but id guess Kansas will open up at -5

I'd say we have Z by then. If so, that game will be a pick 'em.

Doesn't sound like Z will make a difference. No way its a pick em.... #1 team vs #17?
Depends on how we look that first week. I don't think anyone reasonable thinks we really the 17th best team. I could see it being anywhere from -3 KU to a pick em. Depends on how the betting goes.

He wasn't all that impressive against Illinois. I don't think he's honestly insanely good.
He is good, I don’t think he is a can’t miss out of this world player, but he is a really good college player, and Kentucky has nobody to guard him right now. Tre Mitchell will do a decent job given the circumstance, but I don’t see Kentucky being able to overcome that mismatch. If Kentucky is on fire from 3 though it becomes a different scenario

For our young team, 7 footers or not, I just want them to make it a game. If they can keep it interesting til the buzzer, I will be encouraged.

Even if we had all 3 seven footers back for that game, which we won’t, they will be behind in conditioning and game speed. I just hope we can get them back a few games before SEC play.

Not at this time but by the end of regular season sure we will be better and could take them...

👀👀👀 probably cal being cal but it’s better than what he has been saying
It's literally follows the exact timeline he gave earlier in the season. I do think it will likely be December at the earliest before we get Bradshaw in an actual game.

Some of you guys need to get off HD's nuts. I get he will be a good player and get his, but you all do realize he and KU have to defend us as well, right? So, how are they going to do that? Give us your guy's analysis of how KU has any more success guarding our guys than we do stopping HD.

Even if these guys all play, they'll be about 4 to 6 weeks behind in conditioning and practice.

Kansas wins this one by 6+ points. UK has the higher ceiling though, and I suspect we will be formidable by the time we play UNC on December 16th.

WE should torch UNC. I don't see a world where they are much better than they were last year.

This is why I both love and hate the Champions Classic. No matter who you play, you could easily lose that game (as the other three teams are usually pretty decent) and the fan base melts down. And that's not just ours.

It's a very early game and ultimately is meaningless by Feb/Mar (usually). It's a great game to win, but if you lose it's not season defining.

We have shot to beat Kansas, but I doubt it……… not this early.

Lack of rebounding and rim protection will be exposed.

If we do……. Well, expectations go sky high with good reason.

If we can’t….. all is not lost, although I will read many posts here saying so.

I remember when Duke beat us by a gazillion points and both of us went out in the Elite Eight

One to two weeks does not follow the timeline because he literally recanted what he said and said it would be longer and then said mid december, so that’s why people are frustrated because he changes his tone every update and there is no clear thought process. We are giving Dickinson credit because he is a damn all American and is a matchup nightmare for almost every team he will play. And how does Kansas guard Kentucky, slow the game down, don’t let Kentucky get in transition and force Kentucky to run actual offense instead of relying off of athleticism in the open court, it’s worked for self before.

UNC beat FAU in a scrimmage by 20, I don’t think they are great but they will be a little better than hey were last year

I don't recall this. Do you have some actual quotes?

I recall him saying after the bw game he wasn't going to put another timeline on it because then he is damned if something doesn't go as planned. The timeline they gave initially after the surgery was early to mid November. The timeline Cal gave a few weeks ago was the same. Then what he gave last night stayed right in line with that.

Dickinson is a solid player. Mainly on offense. He is a liability defensively, and his teams success in lacking over his collegiate career. If you give up as many as you score, it's not a major boost.

Again, how do they slow us down? What specifically will they do to keep us out of transition? Who guards our backcourt and keeps them in check? Who guards our wings and slows down guys like Edwards and Thiero if they get going. Who is guarding Mitchell? How will HD be effective in keeping up with our speed and and ball movement?

Yep, we were the Zion Guinea pigs that game. No one knew how to defend him yet. Any team would've gotten steam rolled that night. And duke should've lost in the Rd of 32 and/or the S16 that year.

The first statement at that live practice he said 5 weeks for both then a couple of days later he had a press conference and said he shouldn’t have said that and that he doesn’t really know for sure. After that somebody a reporter said mid December, so I have no clue when, that’s why I say just cal being cal, because it’s just a bunch of words. Mitchell can get his on Dickinson because he isn’t great defensively, I hope Kentucky attacks that matchup for sure. Kansas has two experienced guards in McCullers and the one who wears the headband, you aren’t gonna speed them up. Edwards to this point hasn’t shown what he is so who knows what to expect, the kstate game was good but it’s kstate at the end of the day. I think you’re underselling how good Kansas is and how good a coach self is, and I’m underselling how good Kentucky can be. I will be shocked if they win a game like that this early, CALs tenure has told us only his elite teams when a game like that early

If it's a 2 possession game or less with 5 minutes to go I'll take that all day without our big guys.

I think KU is beatable but not expecting UK to win without the Big 3. We play them in March, it's all UK. 😉

HD will have a huge game against us. Mark it down. We have no one that matches up against him. Mitchell needs to have a big game shooting the 3 to counter HD. If we can spread the floor with our shooting we might have a chance, but I think KU beats us. Self has been the better coach in recent years. I think he wins this chess match.

I don't think we'd win with a full roster. Just where I think both teams are right now and especially with the matchup issues inside. Doesn't mean we can't get better, but I don't have high hopes for this one.

I'm pretty sure he has always had Ugo on a later timeline than Bradshaw. Particularly since Ugo's injury and surgery happened later.

Cal has been pretty adamant both would play this year, and the thought has always been Bradshaw would likely be back around Nov. I think putting any kind of timeline on it before you have a definitive date is kind of dumb, and I can see why he walked that back, but I honestly don't think he has misled or changed course on the likely outcome.

IL seemed to speed them up and drive on them with ease. I get KU will be more eager in a real game, but I don’t see any reason why we can't have similar success. They did not look fast.

We just went to KU and ran them to death with their NC team, and we had a lot less talent. Not saying we will win, but I certainly think we are capable.

Kentucky can win, I just don’t expect it to happen. For the injuries I know ugo is out for awhile, anything you get from him this year is just a bonus, Bradshaw the timelines seem to get changed a lot but whenever he is back I will gladly welcome him back
