Will we be ranked next week?

Those little numbers represent the wins you want so bad. They coincide. You’re a walking contradiction. Those little numbers are also tethered to opportunity. Win- get ranked- keep winning - stay ranked- stay ranked long enough and that means you’ve picked up wins- pick up the wins and stay ranked and that means you get a better bowl.

I feel like you are smart enough to understand this. You just prefer to be Uber negative and miserable. You like it better.
The opinions of pundits don't matter. Rankings are for fans to argue about and simply opinions of others paid to make fools of themselves. Because they're so wrong most of the time, I care little about the opinions of pundits, but apparently you do, so you're free to make it your focus ... I'm more interested in development of the team to go out and compete consistently enough to win at a high level. The pinheaded pundits had UK ranked in the "Top 10" earlier this year and you must have been drunk on enthusiastic euphoria. Have you sobered up yet? I said then that this team was not a Top 10 team, and it wasn't. So, I suppose I was "smart enough" to know that.

I’ll take any win - no matter the how- and recognition in the polls. We have suffered by losing games we should have won. Nice to be in the other side of that.

Rankings don't matter. Maybe you just "need" to hear someone else tell you that UK is this or that whether they are or they are not. I don't get excited about those who want to put lipstick on a pig and call it something other than a pig. I could care less about rankings ... just win and ignore the idiot pundits. Who we are isn't any more or less true because someone prematurely put UK on a list. So, we used to have a little number by our name then we lost too many games, and they took our little number away. Embarrassing. Someone was really wrong about all those little numbers in the first place. So, if you "need" to believe UK is worthy of some number next to their name, enjoy that with your fifth of Makers. By the time the season is over, for many teams the lipstick will be completely worn off leaving many wondering where the pig came from.
This is just odd. No other way to put it. What a miserable way to be a fan. No thanks.

#27 in AP.
Beat Vandy and we are probably back in the top 25 for the showdown in the Bluegrass v #1 Georgia.

I just don't pay attention to the bluster and apparently you do. I'm not going to denigrate you for that. I simply watch them play and hope they can improve to win more convincingly with consistently. When they do that, I'll know it, and I don't need some pundit telling me what I already know to be true. Polls and rankings are too fallible and prone to unfair bias, so I don't build my hopes for a better UK football team on them. Those who do will be disappointed. So, for me, I see no misery in it at all ... the misery is in believing it. I see nothing odd in being different than you, so apparently there are many other ways to "put it" ... maybe you're just unwilling to listen to another view.

Rankings usually mean you are doing good. Plus, you can see your schedule easier on the ESPN site.

There is no getting through to ya. I’m sorry about your team’s accolades.

to put it in a different perspective…..it sucked to never get the credit we deserved for years (there were times when we deserved more than we got) but it’s nice to get a little credit when we maybe don’t deserve it.

only Kentucky football fan would bitch and moan about being ranked lol

update: dang I just saw that we did not get ranked today. Congratulations! You must be stoked

A tad ironic, given it comes at the end of a
lengthy dissertation discounting the views of others in polling.

While not the “end all,” being ranked increases program exposure, cannot hurt recruiting, and is one broad, perhaps imperfect, method of long-term measurement of program health.

Since 1936, the AP has ranked teams, weekly, and UK has appeared in 109 of these weekly rankings, thence ranking us 65th among the nation’s football bowl subdivision programs for such exposure.

Is it meaningless that Winsipedia and others rank who has been most ranked? I have heard folks say “keeping score,” is wrong in sports, and others who find sports completely meaningless in an eternally expanding universe.

Sports are played to reward the best, and these subjective polls are simply a fun way to frame the issue of who is best.

I watched UK football for as many as 20 year spans without a national ranking: now that it has become common for us to receive that recognition, I’m going to enjoy it.

Shame on you man. You’ve got no pride. Enjoying a puny ranking. We are UK damnit! We deserve national recognition………… wait……… something ain’t adding up here 😗

You must not be very bright ... here it is again. I don't care about the rankings ... either way. They're folly for fools. You must have been beside yourself when we were ranked Top 10. Did you really believe they were Top 10 ... or were you satisfied living in that momentary fantasy? It's easy to fool someone but it's a lot tougher convincing them they've been fooled.

Listening to another's views is called respectful. The tenor of a few here tended toward denigrating rather than accepting a different view. You guys place value in a ranking that doesn't show up on the field ... I don't, and you don't seem to be OK with that and that would seem to be your problem not mine. Rankings don't matter but winning does.

You damn right I was happy about being in the top ten. Hell yeah! I wish we would be back there tomorrow. Oh, you know who else cares about rankings? Recruits.

so, because I’m not on board with your wack ass view then I must be dumb? Lol. You’re a weirdo. You stand alone on this

Rankings don’t matter but winning does? Interesting. What did I just tell you yesterday? The two are tethered. Your ranking largely reflects your winning. Your ranking will open doors for you. Your ranking will get you some exposure and publicity. In 2007 when game day came to Lexington were we as good as our ranking? No. Did we have a chance in that game? Not really. But you know what? College game day came to Lexington and that was pretty freakin cool dude. Are you always this contrary?

you could make the case that every single ranked team is “overrated”. But why? Why even do that? What a gloomy outlook.

Well I guess those pundits were wrong ... b/c UK simply was "over-rated" and I'm sure you would agree, or do you still believe we're Top 10? I wish it were true, but it wasn't true and only the game-play on the field proved the point. Maybe someday but not this year. "Wack Ass" ... there you have it ... you had to go there. I don't care at all if you're on board, in fact, I'm happy that you're not ... one should always be careful of the company they keep. Judging by your demeanor, I'm pleased that we disagree. Devolving into name-calling when the discussion falls apart is never a good look. Why all the anger? Oh BTW, I never did hear where you "think" the Cats will be ranked this week?

Winning and improving from game to game is what makes me happy. Watching the coaches make the players better. Watching well executed strategy against worthy opponents. Seeing the coaches and players "earn" the accolade and earn the respect from every corner of the college football world. Being truly legitimate to the point other fans and players don't laugh at UK and throw insults. I've seen all the pathetic struggles over the decades and I too would fall victim to the hype only to be disappointed. I support the team and wish them only the best. I'm just finished with the hype and only interested in the truth. You can have your ranking and gameday hype ... it's fine for those who deem it important in their fandom ... I'm just not interested in it. It doesn't make me any less of a fan. If you can't understand that ... we'll just have to disagree and I'm perfectly OK with it.

I was at that Florida game. We absolutely had a chance. Down 8, had ball to end game, had our shots at end zone, Woodson couldn't complete one. Still would have needed 2 to tie, but that was Florida, with Tebow and Meyer.

We had just beat #1 LSU in triple ot. We absolutely had a chance there.

I think you are missing the importance of being ranked to current and future recruits. Trust me, kids notice that stuff, even if you don't.

Winning begets more winning, and vice versa. See, Bama Georgia, vs vandy and UT last few years.

Touché. I was actually at a wedding that day and it was before smart phones. I didn’t have the heart to watch the replay

It was brutal. Think that's the game Tebow broke out the jump pass, on the game winning td. Not sure if he ever did it before then. Ack!

If I’m really being honest with myself I don’t think anyone is overrated ever. Just like I don’t think anyone is overpaid. If you’re able to get it then you deserve it. By hook or by crook we are what we achieve in pretty much all walks of life and perception is reality.

Then we promptly laid a huge egg at Miss St. (Favored by like 11 iirc) lost badly. Season over.

You're right and I'm sure many believe they are important ... important for the reasons you mention, I'm sure. Teams will be ranked according to opinions of pre-season prognosticators and adjusted as the season proceeds relative to the wins and losses. It's a worse look, IMO, is to be over-ranked early only to find yourself completely out of the rankings later once reality kicks you in the teeth. Unless UK is legitimate, a favorable pre-season ranking can be damaging when they slide out of the rankings later. I know some differ, which is fine, but I don't put much weight into the rankings, especially pre-season. I'm just more concerned with real improvement with this team, week to week and year to year and I don't get excited about rankings because they can be so wrong. If UK can put a good football team on the field and win ... that's all that really matters, to me, at least. I appreciate your take, and I do not necessarily disagree, at all.

LOL ... having a different view or opinion is just that ... and don't call me awesome, unless you mean it. :) The world's not always going to see things your way nor my way. I learned that a long time ago. Celebrate it and engage in the conversation and not the argument. It's usually beneficial to both. Have a good night.

Get off the high horse. You are the one that said I wasn’t bright earlier when all I did was have a different opinion lol. Now, I don’t care what you call me and whatnot but don’t lecture me on discourse.

I have a screw driver if you want tighten up your loose screws. You embraced your opinion and called me a wack ass for not having the same opinion. Maybe you're just not up to this whole conversation thing. You're right if I don't think your IQ "ranking" has a little number next to it b/c you keep proving you're not all that bright ... otherwise you wouldn't use the language that you do with the caustic tenor. Besides, I think your phrasing earlier was "I think you're smart enough to know" ... your implication was questioning my ability to understand, so don't act like you're innocent here. Your problem now is you just continue to prove my point with your petulance. You are just who you are and I really don't care beyond this point. I thought my last post left this ignorant thread with you on amiable terms. I'm starting to think now that you struggle with reading comprehension and anger management. I hope you have a great day, if that's possible.

Hey to be fair, I said you had a wack ass view. I didn’t call you wack ass. But it helps you in your journey to play the victim card so whatever. I did however call you weird. I stand by that.

stay miserable

I'm not miserable at all. Those who have a "wack ass" view are most likely considered to be a "wack ass". I'm not nor have I ever claimed to be a "victim" ... somehow you think you can lay that at my feet as legitimate. Not so and is weak. You "want" to think I'm miserable b/c you think it somehow validates your argument. Wrong again ... you're not very good at this. Weird? If someone like you thinks I'm weird ... I'll take that as a compliment b/c anything different from what I've seen out of you is a win. Now go about your day and do something productive ... like find that screwdriver.

This is a much more reasonable take compared to your other post. I may not agree with it but I don’t think you’re a bad fan for having this view. But I also see no problem reveling in rankings and accolades—something I have never experienced in my entire UK football fandom except for in 2007 (briefly) and 2018.

I think it’s worth celebrating and I know recruits take notice. It’s fine if we have different approaches to this as fans, but I would argue appreciating the little things that may not ultimately matter is still a more fun approach as a fan, but to each their own. There’s no one way to be a fan, and I freely acknowledge that.

Thank you ... appreciate your comments and fully understand your sentiment and I don't disagree. I used to get wrapped up in the rankings on the seldom occasion we found ourselves on that list. I am only saying that for me, I just don't put a lot of credence in them and sometimes players start believing the hype when more work is needed in practice and in the field. UK stills struggles too much for me to have faith that a lofty ranking is real. Maybe it changes in the near future ... hope so.

I'm gonna say 23. Thoughts?

Don't see how. Too many teams with 2 or less losses. Do I think we can beat some of the teams in the top 20? Absolutely. We need to show better before we get rewarded with that again. Those first 2 SEC losses still sting.
