Will SEC match the Big East (3 Final Four teams in 1985) this season?

Unlikely. But it wouldn't shock me. I think two teams will likely be in the final 4. Getting three would be incredibly difficult. Probably going to see at least one elite 8 SEC vs. SEC matchup which would eliminate one final 4 spot

I'm going to say no.

Not because I don't think there's several possible final four teams in this conference but rather the numbers just make it extremely unlikely.

Actually, I could see the other way around happening. We get to the tournament and some of these highly seeded SEC teams will probably drop out earlier than expected.

I keep hearing 12 teams will get in. But after 18 matchups plus conference tournament. Teams will knock each other out of bids. My guess is 9 teams make it in.

It's just because I've seen time and time again, the best conferences getting a ton of teams into this thing only for them to not do as expected in the tournament.

Heck looked at the SEC and football this season with the college playoffs.

FWIW doesn't make what this conference is doing any less special. It's just that, this whole you have to be "battle tested" i think is a bit of ....well BS lol

I'd guess UK, UT, AU,Bama and Florida are legitimate final 4 threats.
I think at least one from that group and very good chance of two from that group makes it in the final 4.

Ya know not just conference but I can't find myself "rooting" for anyone other than UK lol.

I love college bball so when we drop out I'm still invested and watch but i have absolutely zero care on who wins lol.

2 SEC teams tops for a final four run.

Which two, I've no idea. But watch Kentucky be right there for one of them. Don't bet against Kentucky, as poppa always used to say.

Think of those years where we won it all in 96', 12'. Both had strong SEC teams start to finish. Miss. State made it to the Final Four in 96. So it is doable for the SEC this year. I think Kentucky shines when the SEC provides the strongest in league competition. Proof will be in the puddin'.

Go Big Blue !

Same here. Except I do root against the usual rival teams and also root for a Cinderella team. Enjoyed watching NC State last year.

The NCAA might have to change the rules.

I mean currently 7 SEC teams are projected to be 1,2 or 3 seeds.

If that holds, it's gonna be hard to separate teams from same conference.

As it stands right now, there’s enough quality teams that it’s possible. Auburn, Tennessee, Florida, and Alabama are all top 10 in most metrics, and several other teams including us are just outside that range in a spot where a tournament run would be plenty feasible. Actually getting three of them to the Final Four will be a tall task though. Winning and losing in the tournament is more random than most people like to admit in the first place, and the way the bracket lines up may also affect this since I doubt we get all four of the 1 seeds and some of our better teams may see each other before the Final Four. I’d say it’s possible, but not the most likely.

Not likely given how the SEC keeps getting exposed in the post season. But even if it happens, the league has more teams than ever before. And that skews many of the performance comparisons.
