Stoops is staying and Coen is under contract for two more seasons. The reports of Rogers to UK are coming out of Starkville, not Lexington, which may or may not be significant but there are no current indications that Rogers is UK's first choice. I hope not. I respect what Rogers has done. IIRC, I think he is #2 in passing yardage in SEC history. That sounds dominant, but there is a big catch. Rogers accomplished almost all of that in an air raid offense, and a good portion of his career passing yardage came on running by receivers after the catch. Rogers is big and intelligent, but his arm strength is no better than average. This season, he did not adapt well to pass-pro, and he got hurt. He is not a good match for Coach Coen's offensive scheme, and is a stationary target in the pocket for pass rushers. There will be a ton of QBs in the portal this time, and our coaches should go after QBs who can drive the ball downfield and fit with what Coach Coen is trying to do That isn't Rogers. If he’s coming, would that be a reason for both coen and stoops to stay? Defense is bringing back key players and add another good recruiting class.
Everybody should stop with the BW stuff. The defense is Mark Stoops baby and will be no matter who is here.Or Brad white is leaving? That’d be cool
He only played in 8 games because of an injury and his numbers per game were about as good or better than Leary's numbers. He lost his head coach of 3 years and had a new head coach and system this year. You see how rough it was for Leary to change coaches, offenses, and coming off an injury.Rogers was not a good fit in a pro style offense this year at MSU. I don't think he would be much better here. Coen likes to throw deep quite often and Rogers does not have the arm strength to do so. Square peg round hole.
The idea is to improve. As far as it goes, you are correct about Will Rogers. As long as he was in Leach's air raid system, he mostly stayed healthy because the ball comes out quickly in the air raid and QBs don't tend to take as many big hits as a result. But I don't see Rogers being built for pass-pro. He is a stationary target in the pocket for SEC pass rushers, and his arm strength is average at best. This is not the profile for a Coen QB. Coen needs an athlete like Levis who can both run and drive the football down field with the big arm.He only played in 8 games because of an injury and his numbers per game were about as good or better than Leary's numbers. It isn't like we threw 20 bombs a game. Rarely completed them regardless. Most are short to intermediate and Rogers has been really accurate for 3 years doing that. He dropped off a bit (still 60%) learning the new system and having receivers learning new routes. We know the struggles with that. I'm good with him coming here if he and the staff choose it.
