Will Pope be smart enough to not play Williams or will the ship sink with him?

Yeah he acknowledged it multiple times. More than can be said about the other so called fans that only post when we lose.
I’ll always have respect for someone who owns it. We all want to get along, but I’m always gonna take it personally if somebody bad mouths my mama, my coach, my players or my team. I’m also all about forgiveness. Still waiting on Terrapin Station to own his —- it was ridiculous the things he said about the people that wear our state’s name proudly on their chest. What a great day to be a Wildcat!

Yea that's fine, I had a bad take and I'm getting crushed, it's fair lol. I am not the first with a bad take on here and won't be the last.

Williams has been amazing damn near since I posted this 🤣
Yep. It happens. We all fall victim of in the moment emotional takes.

Williams has really been good lately. We needed that, badly. We'd be in bad shape right not if he hadn't stepped up his game. Your take wasn't terrible at the time

I mean lets be honest here.

This isn't the same Williams that we saw at the beginning of the year.

It was a valid opinion back then.

We have also spent the last dozen years with a coach who sticks with a player because of their draft stock and is either unwilling or unable to bring out whatever real potential they have. It's going to take some time to adjust to the fact that we have a coach who actually puts in the work and not only sees potential in a player, but develops a plan to help them reach said potential.

Pope is getting me to a point where I just trust whatever he does. HI have been questioning the Chandler minutes over the past few games and it finally paid off.

No, it was never a valid opinion. Amari has been the most valuable player on this team for quite some time. OP should be embarrassed and you should be embarrassed for defending his trash take.

There was a game early in the season where Amari didn't even jump for the opening tip lol.

There was definitely a point where his effort was being questioned here.

I sometimes think the players read this stuff and it fires them up.

Williams was struggling when OP trashed him, then basically became our best player since then.

Somebody posted that Chandler was unplayable yesterday and he had the best game of his life last night.

We need a thread trashing Perry, so we can watch him hit 4-5 3’s and hand out about 10 dimes against Bama. LOL!

lol i also think it just takes time with some of these guys.

I mean up until last night Chandler hardly got mins. I figure it's hard to get into the game when you are only logging 5 mins a game.

Plus in the beginning of the year, i mean this is an entirely new team. Maybe with some guys it was just going to take a little bit of time to see how they fit into all this.

Another thing with Williams is maybe he sees the injuries and realizes he needed to step it up.

Either way he's been great for us.

Do you think there can be a difference in the way we do things?

Ex. A: Man, it really isn’t Perry’s night. I’d like Pope to get literally anyone else into the game at this point.

Ex. B: Perry is complete trash. This team is going to be an early exit this year because we have a freshman out there who can’t walk and chew gum at the same time. Awful player and awful job by the coach in recruiting him.

If people can’t post their criticism in a way that has at least some tact, I think it is fair to expect the poster to get a little pushback. If it’s good for the goose, it’s good for the gander.

Of course. There are definitely ways to give constructive criticism without completely trashing the guy.

TBH I didn't read what the OP said. I was just referring to the fact that many people on this board had that similar view of Williams, whether they had admitted it or not. The OP was definitely not the only one throwing out names for Williams.

Of course people could always have more tact when posting. But for as long as I've been on this message board, I know that's never happening with some. People say dumb things all the time here. After 1 min of game time, the game threads are overran with outlandish takes. The OP was man enough to come back and say they were wrong so I think that's more than what a lot do here.

I actually admire that you’re trying to bring a human element to it and that’s a good thing. However, the people that aren’t merciful to others and fail to apply that same human element to the players don’t “deserve” that same grace they didn’t give. We can’t say this is OUR team and let people trash the players. If anything, I think standing idly by while people are doing that is actually not taking ownership as a fan. Be it a message board or else, we should manage our own fans and take care of our program. You don’t let people take a dump in your living room if you care about your house. It is a message board and we all have bad takes but trashing an 18-22 year old young adult kind of deserves the same treatment. Plenty of the people who may or may not even post here often may be friends or family of some of the players and that rarely gets considered when people go overboard. In short, no mercy for the merciless.

I think it's a good thing to police people but to be honest I read so much on here of the same things by multiple individuals.......if you aren't policing everyone and instead singing ones out I don't think that's really the right way to go about it.

This is why I'm not a huge fan of resurrecting threads. I just don't think that serves any useful purpose whatsoever.

I think it sends the message that if you’re gonna take shots at our team, you better be ready to stand by your words. Anything I say is welcome to be resurrected because I said it. Someone who called Amari a bum deserved to be reminded how dumb it is until they admit it is wrong to have done that. Then, next time they are disappointed with a player’s effort they can learn to say, “I’m disappointed with Billy Bob’s effort. He is playing bad” rather than going too far and making character assessments that may not be fair or cross the line.

Williams can handle the ball, pass better than a lot of point guards, I'm surprised he doesn't have much of a long range jumper. That's the only thing holding him back from an NBA career.
That and not playing a lick of defense, defensive rebounding and terrible hands.

He’s the best we have and he’s helping us win.

As for his NBA prospects? There are none.

He’s a 5th year senior.

He is a finished product. His NIL money is the most he will ever make playing basketball.

You are right. OP gets no credit for owning up for a "Bad Take". He wasn't making a comment on play. He was insulting the player. A Kentucky Wildcat player. He was being an asshole.

As of January 30th Amari has seen his potential in the NBA draft rise to 75th on
ESPN's Jonathan Givony's draft board. You seem certain that he has no NBA prospects. But if Amari continues his upward trend I disagree. An excerpt from Givony's article.

The most surprising ranking here, in this writer’s opinion, is Williams going from unranked all the way up to No. 75. Since ESPN’s last Big Board update on Dec. 10, Williams has averaged 9.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.2 blocks in just 21 minutes per outing on 58.2 percent shooting across nine games played. His playmaking ability as a seven-foot, 260-pound center is a skillset the NBA values right now — even without an outside shooting threat.

You know what I always found wild. People got on Williams for rebounding yet during his entire college career he always rated very high in defensive rebounding % lol.

Weird that Pope may have been putting Amari in situations that he need to improve on in order for him to gain reps and confidence. I think it’s called development.

You were correct at the time of posting. You weren't wrong, he just started playing way better. For a stretch of the season we got absolutely killed with offensive boards and Garrison was way better.

Of late though, Williams is playing great. Imo i think having him play basically pg has him way more engaged than before and its paying dividends. When we get butler back, hopefully we still keep him engaged.

I’m embarrassed that I trashed him so hard earlier in this thread. In my defense his effort level was pretty low during this particular game and his talent was obvious which made that even more frustrating. That’s not an excuse though, definitely took it too far and he’s made me eat my words. He’s an absolute baller and our MVP
