Will Levis & Chris Rodriguez quit on their teammates

There is a trophy given for the Music City Bowl. This trophy could have come to UK’s trophy case. But these players don’t give a sheet about that, that opt out.

OK...lets keep moving the chairs on this logic.

Why play the Vandy or Mizzou games? We had no shot at playoffs and neither were a rival or top ranked win tha twould have mattered?

(i.e....this slippery slope never stops is what I am trying to paint. Levis was a hum ho backup QB at Penn St in a run/read option offense...UK did a ton for Levis as much as Levis did for UK. People arguing we are lucky to have Levis wear Blue and White are seeing a different perspective from others is all I am saying)
And all I'm saying is sitting out of the MCB changes everything you stated VERY LITTLE!!! That is MUCH different than missing a regular season game, IMHO, apparently not yours and that's OK too. We just don't agree on it.

However, how much will it benefit UK Football to have a top 10 NFL draft pick at the QB position??? So whether he played in that game or not, the BENEFIT of what Will Levis can do for UK's reputation FAR outweighs missing the MCB.

Now with C Rod, him getting injured would be even MORE harmful to his draft status because he is NOT a guaranteed 1st round pick.

As far as Valentine, I have NO IDEA why he is even putting his name in the draft, much less sitting out the bowl game.

You can slice it & dice it you can sugarcoat it all you want. But the bottom line is Levis & Rodriguez are quitters. Unlike Bryce Young & Will Anderson at Alabama who are both projected to be top-10 picks they chose to play in their bowl game. And unlike Josh Allen & Benny Snell who chose to play & help their teammates win a bowl game a couple years back. You will say. But what happens if they get hurt? You can rehab an injury. But these guys will have to live with the memories of watching their teammates struggle to score knowing that they could have made a difference.
If Levis & Rodriguez would have played yesterday, the 2 pick 6's would have never happened. Iowa would have scored 7 points UK would have probably scored 10 maybe 13 points & we would have won the game.
Yeah, lot of nerve standing on the sideline watching their teammates get killed on the offensive side of the ball. Will never forget it.

Comparing a kid that NEVER suited up for UK to 2 kids that helped take UK football to their highest level in 40 years is beyond ridiculous!!!

No difference Sharp was a lottery pick and some saying before he stepped foot on campus a top 5 pick.
Sharpe come on campus mid-season and had nothing to prove.
Personally I think they all should play and not sit out. But if you pick one over the other then your a hypocrite

Levis played a substantial part of the season banged up. That's the very definition of quitting, ain't it. And after the pounding CRod inflicted on the other team, I'd be willing to beat he was worse the wear also. I remember seeing Jim Brown at some fan appreciation thing, and the man couldn't get out if a wheel chair because of all the damage done to his body, so screw every one of you couch potatoes hating on these kids who gave so much to us.
They get payed to play but fans don’t get paid to watch and support the team. And as for Jim Brown I think he retired to be a movie star. He was the leading rusher in the NFL the year he retired.

It the culture that NIL, the under 25 crowd, and the internet that makes me wonder why even play if your not full strength. No op outs for TCU, Mich., OSU or Georgia because they played for something. As long as it’s just 4 teams nothing will change. Need 12 teams with a bye system.

It’s what you get when you can’t recruit one QB from Kentucky. Just one who cares about the team more than his NIL money. The same thing will happen next year when you portal your QB. Plus the early season cream puff games which should give your backups some experience never happens when you have a portal QB. History will repeat itself.

You're right when you say that injuries heal. Players can "never" recover from COP-OUTS ... they last forever. They told us that they opted out of the bowl "to prepare for the draft" ... then why were they in Nashville? I would say their reasons were to enjoy the event without actually being there for their teammates when they needed them. It's sad but that's what I will remember. UK offered Levis a career-changing opportunity no other school would offer and he made the most of it ... which is fine, but life comes with risk every day. He could have had a career-ending injury in any game this year. One thing is certain, he wasn't "preparing" for the draft on Saturday.

I think the majority of players are pretty good people in general that respects and cares for their teammates and coaches. No way of knowing a guys heart till he gets here and shows it though. Regardless, if we want to sustain what we have built and even build on it having one of the very best QB's in the country is a must. Just no time to lose a bunch a games for a couple of years trying to make a QB good in this league.

Most people use logic to explain their opinions. You are an exception.

Will Levis and C Rod have given SOOOOOOOO MUCH MORE to UK than what missing the FREAKIN Music City Bowl against Iowa could take away, it's BEYOND ridiculous to blame them for setting out!!!

I would feel HORRIBLE if either one were hurt in ANY way.

Will Levis' progress at UK was one of the MAIN REASONS coach Stoops was able to get the #1 transfer QB in ALL of college football to come here!!

And with C Rod, how LOYAL was UK to him by making him sit out the first 4 games PREVENTING him from becoming the ALL-TIME rushing leader here!!!

So before you guys start JUDGING these 2 kids, try to see where THEY are coming from!!

THANK YOU SO MUCH Will and Chris for ALL you gave to UK Football!!!
Progress ?? Will regressed if anything

Progress ?? Will regressed if anything
From backup at Penn ST to top 10 NFL Draft pick?????

His injuries caused our TEAM to "regress", but Will has made it possible for UK with Coen as OC to attract the QB we needed for next season(the #1 rated transfer QB).

HE prevented HIMSELF from becoming the rushing leader by breaking the damn law!! Nobody else to blame on that one but his own reflection!!

So you think players should be forced to play in a bowl they don't want to play in? What would prevent them from tanking every play?
Yes I do. Where do u draw the line? They are having their education paid for along with everything else. And for that they have committed to play. Screw the nfl. You are playing for your college. And for a full season.

By doing something his own BOSS ENCOURAGED him to do!!!

Chris was not aware of the consequences from this because it had been done in the past by players with ZERO admonition. Chris' boss got a NEW boss that wanted things ran STRICTLY by the book. So Chris suffered the consequences

UK administration and Mitch didn't want to be seen as going against the UK hospital, so they decided on a 4 game suspension for the mishap.

the whole thing could have been swept under the rug like it is at EVERY OTHER SEC school!!! But not here.

Chris even PAID BACK the money that he made for the wrong time cards. So take your sanctimony and CRAM IT!!!

God what a bunch of immature spoiled brat babies

Know this, live with this: Will Levis & Chris Rodriguez will be welcomed with doors wide open now & forever at the UK football facilities, will be greeted with hugs and love by everyone there, and will spend the rest of their lives best friends, brothers even, with every Wildcat they played with.

Something none of you will ever get or have

Sanctimony?? Are you kidding me?? I don’t give a damn if someone was aware of it or not, it was wrong!! He paid it back?? Big deal…if he would have been anybody else but a damn UK athlete, he’d have been arrested for theft!! And you seem to be fine with it because “Every other SEC school does it”…that makes it right?? And don’t get it twisted…it wasn’t just the “fake job” that got his ass busted. He was also coming off a damn DUI charge too. But I guess you think that’s alright too because 22 year old scholarship athletes don’t know any better, and hell, he didn’t kill anybody while he was driving. Sanctimony…give me a break!!

I don't know whether he broke the law or not, with respect to that work study crap or whatever, but he never was charged. The Dui is obviously illegal, but that wasn't what the suspension was about.

How you know they didn't workout that morning? Maybe they put in some work later that night.
The likelihood of that happening is non-existent during the bowl game festivities with the team. Any rational person wouldn't believe it either. The better workout would have been to play in the game, if they were serious about workouts. What I do believe is that they turned their backs on their teammates that had their backs all season long. These are the guys that accepted the NIL money all season long. Selfish or selfless ... they had a choice.

They not going to get hit in the NFL? Sitting out one college game going to be the difference between a life of soreness/discomfort and everlasting healthy twilight? Gtfo.

Bryce Young got bounced around beaten and battered all season too. You see Bama vs UT? UT was hitting Bryce Young like it was 1975 and he was Joe Nammath. Nah, I’m with OP 100%, and the fact that Bryce Young played shoots your opinion all to pieces and you know it.
No, you get the f out fat ass. How long do you think their contracts last? Your sense of entitlement is disgusting.

Lemme tell you something, I am a carpenter. Been doing it for 40 years. Never had a bad accident, but years of being on my knees, or bent over, or carry heavy things has left me so I can barely straighten up. I'm not bitching, this is my life and I chose it because I love my job. But to dismiss the accumulation of injuries is just blind ignorance. Try walking in the other guys boot for a while before dismissing their choices.

If Bryce Young was taking snaps behind an offensive line like ours he probably wouldn’t have played either. Our o-line quit on Levis and Rodriguez every game.
They didn't quit. They just weren't very good. Big difference.

To clarify my position. I WISH Levis has played, I wish Crod had played. But if they decided they had done enough then that's enough for me. They are not slaves though apparently some of you think they are. What the team thinks about it is for them to decide. I'll bet most of the team supports the 2 stars.

So again with however we want to justify anything we want personally

Why is it sensible for Levis and Crod but not Valentine? It’s just a meaningless exhibition to him as well correct? 7-6 vs 8-6 with a music city bowl doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things correct?

(again..I get your argument but when we try to rationalize opting out for some you sort have to do it for all)

In other opt out news, sounds like Purdue is playing the Citrus Bowl today with a shit ton of opt outs, including their star QB, and this is the biggest bowl Purdue has played in 20+ years. Several of Penn State and Utah top players are sitting out the Rose Bowl, and FWIW, this will probably be the final traditional Rose Bowl matching B10 and P12 on NYD without a playoff. I mean, if you can't even play in the Rose Bowl, or in your schools biggest bowl game of the century, then the NFL ought to just start a developmental league like MLB or the G league and have at it.

They will get hit in the NFL but not before they are drafted and sign the contracts. Getting healthy before the combine and pro day workouts that will determine where they get drafted. Where they get drafted will determine the size of those contracts.

You mean THIS Jim Brown, a year after he retired? Still moving okay here.

Jim Brown talked about returning to the NFL when he was in his 40s to defend his records from Franco Harris. He later backed off, but it was taken seriously -- which would have been hard from a wheelchair.

He may have accumulated damage to his body that showed up later - hell, I had to have a hip replacement and the surgeon said it was linked to a hip injury I had playing college basketball 40 years earlier.

But players aren't sitting out Bowl games because of concerns that one college football game will be the tipping point that puts them in a wheelchair after a lifetimer of sports abuse. It's to avoid that one-in-500 chance of a career ending injury. Period.

The scholarship requires you to fulfill the regular season. Bowls are rewards for players, not scholarship obligations.

I get where you are coming from. As fans we are invested in our teams for life. I also agree with you that a free education in exchange for playing a sport for a school while getting that free education seems like a fair exchange. But apparently that is considered archaic thinking these days, and maybe it is, I don't know.

But regardless of how players are rewarded for playing for a school, the bottom line is that the end goal for most is a career in the NFL, so if a player wants to skip a non-CFP-bowl to prepare for their future, while I might wish they would play in the bowl game, I am not going to lament them not playing.
