Got 2 weeks to make improvements. Florida is no joke.
One thing that bothers me about Pope is that he has always talked about how he wants us to improve on offense in all of the interviews/ radio shows and stuff. Very very few mentions of the defense. And defense is what wins games. We have got to get better defensively. We aren’t a whole lot better than last years team and that team had a better offense.
A bunch of their baskets were due to us missing shots so badly they had a run out and self inflicted turnovers. We shot 29% from the game. Could the defense be better? Sure. This loss was entirely on the offense inability to create good looks and inability to make shots. Without those runout opportunities they likely score 75 or so, and a good offense should beat a team scoring 75.
I 100% agree we need to improve our defense but this team wasn’t built for and isn’t capable of playing D well enough to beat teams scoring 65 points. We need to score 80+ likely 85+ to beat good teams. It’s a fairway to approach the game but the past few weeks, even the Zaga game, have shown little to no improvement or return to form from the beginning of the season.
I’ll reiterate my initial stance on this season, total pass for Pope having to construct a roster in that manner. But I’m interested to see how he approaches things going forward.
I gotta respectfully disagree with u. It’s hard to be confident on offense when ur opponent is scoring on u at will. Defense wins. Always has and always will
Actually the old adage about defense winning championships is just something people say because they've heard it over and over.
If anything offensive efficiency correlates more to winning than defensive. Obviously you want both but if you had to pick one, offense would be the one you want.
Kentucky basically rode a top 5 offensive and top 100 defense last season to a 23-10 and a 3 seed last season.

That's because he thinks all he has to do is pull out a zone defense. Not my idea of great coach.
Being one sided will always lead to the potential of upsets.
That applies on both sides of the coin tho.
Unfortunately we wont know what Pope is capable of until next year when we have our class come in with much better athletes and players plus able to upgrade players in the portal. I think games like this and the SEC will open Pope's eyes to what we're going to have to have on the team to be towards the top next year and forward.

Both offense and defense have their hand in winning games, lol. You are correct, though, the defense is AWFUL.
