Why you guys think college bball is dominated by home team?

Familiarity with the home floor. Knowing your best spot to shoot from, and the backgrounds associated with it. Staying in familiar quarters rather than in a hotel the night before. A friendly rather than a hostile crowd which can influence calls from the officials. I think familiarity with the floor is the biggest factor.

Being the home team seems to be a much greater advantage in basketball than any other sports at any level, HS, college, or pros. There might be some officiating bias that factors in but I think most of it is that players are far more subjected to the crowd in a basketball arena than a football field. It can either kill your game or make you a superstar.

There are these people called "fans." They yell really loud and direct insults, boos, etc. at the opposing team. They even wave their arms when an opponent shoots free throws. I hear that sometimes it's effective.

A good free throw shooter is never distracted by what is going on behind the basket. He is focused on the front sim of the goal and should block out every thing else.

Visiting team comprised of teenagers is away from their comfort zone. Home team benefits from the momentum created by a loud and energetic crowd. And yes, officials are influenced by the home crowd as well. Seen it all too many times. Especially obvious at game in that crackerjack box Dook plays in.

The crowd, first and upmost, plus they can effect the official's calls more then the coaches.

Because home teams get advantages in every sport. Because they're the home team.

If you break in my home, you are at a disadvantage. I know where my guns are, I know where my safe room is, and I know where to hide so I can pick you off before you take a second step.

Sports are similar. :)

Actually the best place to focus is the back of the rim .

In the SEC against UK it sometimes seems as if it is a conscious effort on all fronts to get a bubble team in a perceived weak conference a quality win to make more $$$ for the conference. Not saying there is truth to it but it wouldn't surprise me. Money drives everything.

Depth perception, maturity of the kids, the inconsistency of players, advanced scouting, friendly home whistles, tiresome travel.

For me, it was the front of the rim. I did not want to hit the back of the rim, just get the ball over the front of the rim.
Same here and I think the same for most shooters.

What is the home field/court winning % in other sports? I'm too lazy to look it up

It really isn't dominated by the home team. When you just look at within conference games, the home team wins about 63% of the time.

Officiating is a huge part of it. And the fact that teams know they'll get a favorable whistle makes them more at ease, while teams knowing their about to get boned at say.. Cameron Indoor.. have the added pressure on top of trying to overcome 8 on 5.

Raucous crowds are for sure a part of it. But it's not like these players aren't used to hostile environments, big stages, championship atmospheres. It's not like the hoop is any different where all the sudden they can't make shots like it's their first time on a new golf course.
