Why Skal Will Declare for Draft

Truth be known, I think there are probably several players who wished they had gone somewhere else because of Cal's screaming and yelling, etc.

For the long term Skal's best bet might be to do a Wiltjer. Transfer to a different school where he'd have a year to work on his strength and skills and then play where he could be the star. There is no doubt in my mind that the kid has talent and abilities but I'm not sure Cal's system is the best to develop and utilize those abilities.

Cal knows the lay of the land with these things. When he said, "unpack your bags" and "there is no timetable with this thing" in reference to Skal's OAD status, it opened up the door for the reasonableness in a potential Skal return.

That and the fact that Goodman and his sourpuss cronies really don't want to see another Kentucky-dominated season like 2015 turned out to be.

Can you imagine if Ulis and Skal both returned? The hype would possibly exceed that of the 2015 team.
If Ulis and Skal return, and we add Bolden to our class, then yes, I do think the hype would be ridiculous.

Well, almost.

hilarious.

in 2 months...wiltjer will probably never play basketball in this country ever again. wiltjer is exactly the same as he was at uk. which is why he left. wiltjer isnt a bit better. he just now plays in a zone against teams like san fransico and seattle. puts up huge numbers because he gets to shoot tons of shots. he isnt stronger, he isnt a better defender or rebounder.

do you even watch basketball?

That would be the worst case for Skal.

He is already older than those in his class.

Age means everything.

Using your logic he would be 23 entering the draft and that is not a good thing.

For only about the last 60 years.

You do realize that saying Skal should consider a transfer like Wiltjer isn't the same as equating their skills, abilities, or potential. But then you were obviously so busy laughing that you overlooked that part where I said that Skal had the necessary abilities.

He actually looks slower now , if that's possible .

If you are projected to go in the lottery , why in the world would you transfer and have to sit out a year ?

Skal has gone from being an almost universal top 5 projection to completely falling off the projected list for some recent mock drafts. As good as Cal is at developing talent he isn't infallible and his method doesn't appear to be working so well for Skal. I truly hope that the young man can turn it around in the last half of the season.

They all need to leave (our guys, Duke's, KU's, UNC's, etc.).

Take advantage of a weak draft.

Better to be drafted late in a weak draft than not be drafted at all in a strong draft.

That is why I think a lot of these so-so guys jump ship and declare.

People can talk about him being able to work on his game 24/7 but he will undoubtedly play at least a season (prob 2) in someplace like Ft Wayne, Reno, Bakersfield, etc. Big assumption that he: a)will have access to high level teaching, b)access to great weight programs, c) not be miserable as hell playing in the middle of nowhere in front of empty seats. Yes, he would get his 3 year guarantee one year earlier. Not a clear best option as some are saying....especially for a kid already working through major adjustments.
