Rumor was wrist injury.

He had struggled this year, which I think a lot of fans forget is completely normal for freshmen. Lost his shot, the college game was too fast, and too much was asked of him too soon.

Could be a mix of everything. I think he'll be fine.

Because honestly, he’s not athletic enough to play D1 basketball. He belongs at the mid major level.
Mid major is still high level D1 though, not a big drop off in athleticism at all as you can see by all the players that transfer up to P4…

He’s athletic enough to play D1, but he should probably consider doing it at Bellarmine though if he wants to be a starter or a star player for his team. We’d all love for him to stay and develop into an upperclassmen contributor, but I think most would be really happy for him if he got an opportunity to shine somewhere on a lower level.

He plays PG and offers shooting. Our defense first PG happened to be hitting 3's last night so putting Perry in wouldn't have added anything. Shooting from the PG position was the least of our worries last night.

We are getting really close to hearing “Coach, is Travis gonna play?” on the Pope call in show…..

(Those of you old enough will remember that line…..although, I have to admit, watching the news and seeing the South Oldham kid who hit 10 threes in the state tournament game to break the record of 9 held by Richie Farmer and Chris Loften say he didn’t know who either of them are makes me realize just how old I am, and that more than a few on here will not remember that line……)

The ONLY thing he brings to the table is 3-point shooting and he wasn't even doing that well.

This. He was unplayable the last few weeks. Chandler was all or nothing but at least there was a slight chance hed be all.

Perry also had some very concerning ability finishing under the rim on good cuts/passes. Hes athletic enough, so i guess its him rushing? Whatever, its a serious issue he needs to address.

He can and has done worse. That’s why he hasn’t played much. I love Perry but he’s gotta do the little things better going forward. One of the biggest issues I see with him is his off-ball movement. As he gets older, I’m hoping he gets a little more wise to reading the defense and knowing where things will open up. He doesn’t make those reads that great right now. His defense is what it is, but his offense leaves a lot to be desired. The good thing about Perry is he’s going to be a gravity guy someday. If he gets the off ball stuff figured out and improves his passing, he can become deadly.

I think you're confusing the NCAA tournament with the KHSAA tournament versions of Travis Perry.

Regarding the other freshmen, Noah has the height and is able to rebound. Let's be real, Chandler is twice the player Travis Perry is right now.

He hurt his hand in Nashville unfortunately he is the whipping boy on this site - hopefully he doesn’t get Cassidy Rowed this week - I still believe he can help the program - he just needs to knock down open jumpers when he gets his chance 31% shooting is not good enough when your limited in other areas
I’m pulling for him you don’t score 5300 points and lead a rural team to the KHSAA title and not be a hooper

He may shine as a junior / senior or transfer to WKU for playing time. Great high school player. Not as good as Noah. Size and athleticism mean something in the SEC. Perry doesn’t have it…. Yet.

He will have to be super patient and work his tail off to play here or transfer out and put up numbers against weaker competition. Noah will make his mark far quicker than Perry. Wish the best for them both.

You think he's going to do something to get taller and become more athletic ?? Be placed on a stretching or have bionic implants ?? Sorry but those are things he doesn't have and sadly never will.

Unfortunately, the things Perry lacks - length and athleticism, mostly quickness - he’s not going to develop. He’s never going to be even average on the defensive end. Noah is similarly limited, but he’s not going to be guarding the quickest player on the other team. I think Perry can function on the offensive end in Pope’s system……but you have to worry about a loss of confidence and moxie. He probably still hears Nate Oats screaming “seal! seal! seal!” when Perry came in the game. Being marked, and mocked, like that can wilt a kid, especially one who’s lived his whole life as “the man”…….

Saying he's not going to develop is a bit of a stretch. He's always going to be limited athletically but he can learn to play smarter and be better at taking angels on defense.

Hurt his wrist.

Pretty hard for me to discard a 19 year old kid who i never saw do anything but bust his ass. I’m sure at one time no one thought Steve Nash would ever play meaningful college minutes. Is that gonna happen for Perry? The chances are highly unlikely. But not non-existent.

think he was injured.

That being said the mere fact this thread is posted illustrates the problem for Pope this season.

If we were relying on Perry ........for anything.......lol

I like Perry. He and Noah should stick around knowing that they will be the 14 - 15 players on the roaster. From now on the last 2-3 spots on roaster should be for the best Kentucky boys, and in time (2-3 years) they can develop and maybe make their dream come true to be starters on Kentucky team.

Pope needs to clean house and expectations for the future.

Obviously not. As I said he may learn to play in the this league after years of practice or he will transfer down.

I do not think he is cut out for this league. But he could prove me wrong as a junior or senior. Hope he stays around and does just that.

So no, I do not see a stretch Armstrong thing happening.

Yes, agree completely, in fact have said that same thing (oddly with almost the same phrasing). In the end I don’t know that it will be enough. Re-reading my post, it went further than intended. Should’ve just said I think he can play offense at this level but not defense.

ynop322y, just messing with you OP. Perry needs to hit the weightroom, run through tires until his lungs bleed, and put up 3-pointers with giant hands on sticks in his face.

Pretty sure he hurt his hand in the SEC tourney.
Yes. Could he play, probably. But would hand injury affect his shot, very good chance.
Also he has not shot great this season, he was next to last (slightly ahead of Garrison) in 3pt%. And our quicker guys were having trouble getting open looks, odds are he would have even gotten fewer.

Mid-major is D1 ball.

Also if Cameron Mills can play at Kentucky so can Perry. I don’t understand how you guys dog players just cause they’re legit freshmen and not NBA Lottery talent.
You are missing the point.
Right NOW Perry is mid-major level.
Next year, we’ll see.
His JR year I could see him as a contributor.
His SR year possibly as a key top 8 rotation player.

Mills (walk-on) didn’t see the floor as a FR or Soph. I think only late in his JR year , after DA injury did he.
So some are comparing FR Perry to SR Mills, which isn’t fair.

Kentucky-born fans love when a Mr Basketball from tiny county school goes to UK. But now, at the end of the season and having watched him play all season, only those who don't actually know nothing about basketball are still rooting for him to get more minutes.

I get it. I doubt Perry would’ve played this much under the same model back in 1995. In the portal era, you probably have to play all of these guys to keep them. Pope also didn’t have a ton of options I imagine.

The amount of our fans that keep calling for Perry minutes amazes me. If that kid grew up in any other state, not a single one of you would be saying that he should be logging big time minutes for Kentucky. At least not right now.
