Why no minutes for Wynyard ?

Who were you going to take minutes from last night? Willis or Skal? Both of those guys were playing really good basketball.

Getting in shape seems to be prevailing thinking. Don't think Cal has redshirted anyone at UK, but he might with Wynyard. Not sure he can add much other than another big body and some fouls to give. If Skal is ready to starting playing better consistently then we don't really need him. Heck Humphries barely see's the floor to. I'm more curious about that honestly. Cal knows a whole lot more about what's happening, and coaching than I do. If he's not playing them there's a reason.

If I'm wrong, then what's the point? We don't recruit guys to be here 5 years.

Almost beyond belief how some continue to hang on the "why isn't Wynyard getting any minutes" nonsense. If he was ready to play and could contribute, don't you think, especially given how weak we are at the 4 and 5 spot, he'd be playing?

Agree. Also, with Willis playing like he is now will limit minutes at the 4. I believe Cal is going to play him there because that is where he is the most effective. That gives us 4 players rotating between the 4 and 5. Humphries will have a hard time getting mins now.

My guess is he is not that good yet at least in Cals eyes.
Most likely true answer. Humphries is so young, he is not making an impact when he plays. I was hoping that Tai would be ready. Doesn't look like it's going to happen this year.

It's really hard for a freshman to come in December and make that adjustment. To learn the system, get use to playing with the team all in about 2-3 weeks. Also we are in mid season and league play now where majority of practices are game prep he is probably just so far behind.

How many years are they recruited for? If he doesn't play some this year why was he recruited?

I imagine you're right, fabcat. I guess it'd be like trying to jump on a moving train. Hope he can somehow find his place before the tournament. Would like to see him bounce a few Cardinals or Hoosiers on their asses if we meet them March.

Maybe he can be our enforcer come tourney time.:boxing:

Next season. Back in the summer everyone was saying there are no quality big men coming in next year, so i heard everyone guessing that both Humphries and Wynyrd were projects for next season. Get them an extra year to prepare and all that jazz. Skal was supposed to be it for this season.

Oscar and Dave talked about it before the game yesterday. He hasn't progressed enough to be a positive at this point. They made reference to the twins missing summer school their freshman year. If they were behind, just imagine coming in at Christmas...

This is what I thought right from the start. I thought it would be very difficult for a young freshman to join the team in December and be expected to have an easy time of catching up with the rest of the team and start contributing by SEC play. Some on here sounded like he should start seeing time immediately but I just don't see that it works that way. He was far behind where the rest of the team was in understanding the system, what coaches expect, how his teammates play and react to things, timing, being in shape, etc. Just asking far too much from the young guy no matter how big or strong he is. If Cal feels he is ready at some point, that's when we will see what he can do. Just have to be patient and let the coaches make those decisions.

Cal's top secret weapon for March. Kid has been doing top secret training sessions, and the results have been astounding.

Yes that 16 points would vanish if he played in that 90 seconds !! No Cal just don't want anyone else stealing scals thunder

I admit I am disappointed he isn't playing just because he is an unknown and I would like to see what he can do. It seems stupid though for players to enroll here early unless they are going to get early playing time. As others have said, Coach Cal doesn't redshirt players and he likely will recruit over you if there is someone better out there. So it is turning into a waste to come here a year (or half year) early unless you are going to get Jamal Murray minutes or you plan on being nothing more than a 4 year role player.

Quoting Cal off Twitter "He's OK...Tai is still getting in shape."
I listened to his Vandy presser. Basically said when Lee and Poy aren't performing it lasts for 40 minutes. He'll look at playing Tai and Humphries. Of course he may just be trying to fire up Lee and Poy.

It's amazing to me that some of our fans still to this day don't understand Calipari at all.

Not a shot at you, it's at 30% of the fanbase that takes what cal says as truth.

A small part of me wants him to get in during garbage time and get dunked on or something like that. Then everyone would quit asking why he isn't playing.

I don't think anybody's saying he should be playing significant minutes but E.J. and Johnny David got in at the end Thursday night, everybody just wants to see him on the court so they can see for themselves where he is.

I'm about 100% he will red shirt unless something horrible happens

Not sure why you are 100% about anything unless you are Wynyard or Cal but IMO, there isn't any need for him to redshirt. Dont think Cal recruits any player so that they can redshirt and be here for 5 years. I may be wrong but I can only think of 1 reason to redshirt and that's a major injury. As simply a precaution but I don't even think that would happen unless we were talking junior or senior year, not a freshman. But anyway, nobody has any clue except Wynyard and Cal, the rest of us are just guessing. You may be 100% convinced by your opinion though.
