Tom Leach (voice of the Wildcats) has Larry Vaught on because Tom's on vacation during SEC Media Days. Hour spent discussing local golf tournament.

KentuckySportsRadio is discussing giving away tickets to a basketball practice and how deep the SEC basketball tournament will be this year.

I pull up iHeart and flip to WJOX and miracle of miracles!!.....LIVE radio coverage of SEC media days and UK's Josh Allen. Someone actually is aware that SEC Media Days are going on today. Unfortunately they arent in this state.

Get a clue UK media and get with the program. This crap isnt acceptable anywhere else in the SEC. Why does our fanbase apathetically tolerate it?

SEC media days? If Larry isn't going to talk about it, you might have to wait for Finebaum later this afternoon.

Not much to discuss. Stoops comes on at 1:15 so there is no news right now. Tune in to the SEC network then.

SEC Network is the place to be for the week.

And, I agree it gets old.

One thing I want to hear about is summer heroes. We have heard very little about who is impressing during the summer workouts. That kind of stuff gets me through the hot humid sports-less months.

Without Freddie, I expect a very lame year of coverage from KSR. Nick just can't pull off what Freddie gave to us.

Agree, I really like the KSR football podcast except Drew Franklin who brings nothing to it except wisecracks. I like Drew but don't think he needs to be on the podcast. Roush, Maggard, and Lorenzen would be good enough but now with Freddie gone not sure who does show.

Can you imagine if it were basketball media day? KSR would be hosting live from Atlanta. It gets old that UK football fans get the shaft from the media.
Theyll spend two hours discussing the Peach Jam.....a frickin high school tournament.

The unoffical start of football season...."Yeah I think it starts today not sure what time UK is on."

Its a horrible look. I get that some of our local outlets are down there and will report later. If you are in Lexington or Louisville....THIS is the story today. Do we wait until a game starts and finishes to discuss it or do we speculate in the paper and on the radio beforehand. 10 of 11 SEC states have been discussing it all morningn and afternoon. Guess whos the odd man out. It gets old.

KSR sucks with football. They have their head so far up Cal's butt they can't see anything else.
They do. I had Tom and KSR both dialed in today because I expected football talk. I usually dont tune into them during the summer months since its slow, and I love baseball so I focus on baseball radio/podcasts.

This is why I started the thread. I got up and came into work hyped to hear some UK football talk and, well.....you see my original post. Angry and disappointed.

Thankfully iHeart exists and Ive had WJOX feeding me UK/LSU/aTm stuff all day.

Bill Curry on right now. Discussing Bobby Dodd and his relationship with him, and also his impressions of Coach Stoops. He apologized for the job he did at Kentucky. "If we'd had a better HC we could have gotten it done there. We were so close to being competitive in that Eastern Division."

The UK Media is all round ball all the time. It's just the reality of a UK Football fan. But then again what is there to talk about other than getting us all hyped only to let us down in the end. I'm a Football first fan. I am also tired of getting hyped up only to be let down in the end. Go win 8 games and a bowl. Beat Florida. Become the dominant team in the state. Then things will change. I love Kentucky Football and I always will.

Yep. And it has been that way as long as I can remember. But the media knows their "customer base". Football HUGE everywhere in the SEC except Kentucky; basketball HUGE in Kentucky but nowhere else in the SEC. o_O

Peace
Football is still pretty big in Kentucky. Not as much as say Alabama or Florida but if we would win more football would be huge here. UK fans are dying to see a winner.

Nobody gives a rats ass about media day. It’s the same bs coach speak that means nothing. Same goes for basketball media day. The media in this Country is a complete joke anyway.

You know what I want? I want to beat Florida. I want to get to nine wins and look like a top tier SEC team. I don’t give a damn about what coaches and players babble on about in press conferences and interviews. It means zilch. In fact, if I never had to listen to a player or coach say they’re going to do this or that again I would be just fine.

I got my fill of local sports media during the will he or won't he go to the NBA saga following the basketball season. Talk about beating your dead horse. Nobody knew until each player called a press conference or sent a Twitter message to let us know, but every sports talking head was grinding on the same subject and offering their best guess for what seemed like endless days. Chinese water torture.

KSR and their football coverage....I first knew how bad they were when Ms. Tyler announced a scholarship offer or commitment on Twitter. She didn't even know the recruit's name. I tweeted back - I bet you'd know the name if it was a basketball recruit. They at least tried to get the name after that.

Lately the NBA has usurped the place of football coverage. I've been held captive to more NBA talk than I've heard in a lifetime lately in order to get a few scraps of football news. On one show a fellow called in and the host said, he wants to talk about football, so they place the guy on hold and continue to talk about the NBA.

I've also heard the following recently... you'll have to wait a little longer to talk about football this year because the basketball team is going to the Bahamas so it's still considered basketball season. When was it not considered basketball season in Kentucky?

I'm at the point where I want to boycott these shows until football can get the respect it deserves.

KSR's coverage is really, really bad. It is a poor website, run on the cheap, with an absentee owner who wants to get elected to Congress so he can impose his leftist philosophies. With Freddie gone, there isn't a columnist left on the entire KSR staff who could get a similar job at a real news outlet with an editorial board. All their headlines are teasers, designed to get you to all the popup ads. And now, they are censoring reader comments too. Kentucky fans deserve better. You can cast your votes in favor of real professional coverage of Kentucky sports by depriving KSR of hits.

Look, there’s not a more loyal UK football fan than me, but the holier than now football only fans here are just as annoying as the basketball only fans. Your post talk about “respect”? I don’t know if you’re being funny or you’re just delusional. Our football hasn’t earned a damn bit of respect. Maybe that will change. We haven’t won jack in DECADES. You strike me as a participation trophy, everybody is special type of guy.

Let me explain this to you. Respect has to be earned. Our football program, up to this point, (July 17...2018)
has earned zero.

I'm not a die hard football fan but if you go to the KSR website right now its straight up hyping of the football program. Matter of fact, I think KSR does a disservice to the football program with the constant hyping. Instead of setting expectations for a solid year, every year they start the season with UK being a darkhorse prediction to be more successful than they ultimately will be, resulting in them and the a good portion of the fanbase that follows them to turn on the football team near the end. Its predictable because it happens every year.

Honestly, I don’t know where to begin, but I do know you are being way out of line. It takes balls to criticize a UK football fan

I listened to Tom's show, hosted by Vaught again today. I missed the introductory segment, but the guest lineup involved IQ's mom talking about UK basketball, a guy from Ohio that has a UK convention that Vaught hosts, and a Kentucky LPGA golfer who went to Bama.

Are football days actually taking place? Does not seem like it.

Is basketball our albatross? Was Kansas State able to finally reverse their pitiful (and I’m talking much worse than UK) fortunes because of the lack of great basketball in Manhattan ?

That's your opinion. Mine is that these players have sacrificed just as much if not more to represent Kentucky as the basketball players and by that measure they have earned our respect. I know based on where the program stands that they didn't expect to spend much time at number one unlike the basketball players, but they accepted the challenge in spite of those odds. For this you expect them to be treated like second class citizens?? I think they deserve our thanks and respect, not for participating, but for giving their all.

You know, had Vaught only talked roundball today, I would blame basketball in Kentucky, but he talked conventions and LPGA golf on the day after Stoops was in Atlanta and Benny said he was the best RB. I did not listen to the whole show. Did he have on ONE football guest?
