Why hasn’t Mitch been run out of town?

Cals gone because the fans made him restless. Barney gave him the lifetime deal and when cal used ark as leverage he had no choice but to leave. If the fans didn’t blow Barney’s email up he would have kept him. Barney had no leverage until the fans gave it to him. And yes it was a lifetime deal. It gave him a million a year for just being around after he retired. It was double the price of any other college coach at the time, had a massive buyout went to 29 but there were all kinds of ways to automatic extensions. I don’t know what barney did well here. He set us back several years last time it took us to suck this bad was probation. Barney by deincentivizing cal did that. Years that can’t be gotten back. The post that showed how barney is batting .500 on decisions is damning for barney. He’s great at the brainwash. Idk why people fall for it but they do. Idk any executive who can make one barney mistake. Hiring joker for instance that would get most ads fired especially when coupled with Bcg. Barney isn’t the best man for the job he’s Eli’s man that’s all there is to it.

And @stuway ”beware of the man who builds monuments to himself”. Like the barney family sports complex. You don’t do that while still ad. If you’re great maybe they name it for you. Doing it while you’re the boss? Lol that’s all you need to know Stu. Jojo told you.
You should actually educate yourself. You look stupid.

That last sentence is not correct. The $1 million admin role expired when the contract expired. Still a bad contract, but it wasn’t a $1 million gig until he retired. It was part of the 10 year deal he signed that expired in 2029
Exactly. It only kicked in if he stepped down as head coach into an administrative role... up to the end of the 10 years. He apparently just cannot read a contract.

MB allowed it to play out for ZERO cost and Arkansas bought the lemon.

Here's the thing though. We were stuck with Cal. If it had not been for that Contract I actually think he would have been fired 2 years earlier. We ran off Tubby for less. He was not performing near Kentucky standards and historically bad actually.

What about the swimming team r@pe/sexual misconduct allegations? Barney was supposedly emailed about the dangers of hiring the coach.
People like to forget about that. They pushed that ish under the rug really quick.

There's no doubt that Mitch was behind on NIL, and it definitely cost our football program for a few years (though it seems as if things are better). What evidence do we have that he is still an issue with our NIL? By all accounts, UK has a huge war chest, so how is Mitch to blame?

I'm not a blind defender of Mitch, but I don't agree with your post:

-He hired Stoops, the best coach in UK modern history (though trajectory is definitely down).
-He hired Mingione, who got us to Omaha for the first time ever.
-Our softball coach is the best in school history, got us to WCWS, and is now a consistently good program.
-Our volleyball team won natty.
-OUr tennis team has made the final four.

None of these things is as important as football (and to a lesser extent, basketball), but we have a great all around athletic program now. If Mitch can't modernize, then by all means, he should retire. But, I am struggling to figure out how this is his fault?
It's good that our minor sports programs have improved. BUT, you can't do that at the expense of our flagship program: men's basketball. Basketball is the one where Kentucky has the greatest chance of winning championships in. It has by far, the biggest fan base and if it trends downward the other sports are going to suffer badly. As the saying goes: Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

You have quite the imagination. Just because you believe something doesn’t make it true.

The issue is that 90% of UK fans don't care about those other sports...PLUS they don't generate revenue...They COST
I get that, but when people ask "what has he ever done?" that would be part of my answer. Also, the one sport that generates the most money is football and Mitch has hired the most successful coach in school history not named Bryant.

It’s a formula that begins with hiring someone from Kentucky someone who understands the high standards of our basketball program. It’s not like we have a list of possible ADs. They could come from one of many executive backgrounds. From a basketball perspective I’d like to see a guy like tayshaun prince. And the best option no one would go for but it’s pitino. You want to win across all sports you hire the guy who knows the state better than anyone. He’s a college guy and the one of the all time greatest. At the end of the day though we shouldn’t be hiring presidents and ADs from other states. That sends a message that the state doesn’t produce great winners.
Sure, hire Richie farmer abd see how that works out. LOL

You guys can't seem to grasp it's an ATHLETIC director, not a sports i like director.

And dont try with the but these sports bring in money...youre the same ppl that claim you hate money in college sports

Key words "ran off." Tubby quit. Cal quit. Both quit and cost us nothing.

Richie farmer is toxic. And I doubt he can handle the job. I would never advocate for him but come on. You’re going to mock and tell me we can’t produce Kentuckians for these jobs? I don’t buy that for a minute

Yea, "ran off" Tubby as in the infinite weight of The big blue nation coming down on you for underperforming. We couldn't run off Calipari due to his buy out. We got lucky he breached contract for talking to Arkansas behind our back without first consulting UK. And if you didn't know he wanted to actually come back to Kentucky after talking to Arkansas, and that's when he found out we said you can't come back and you breached contract. This is well known fact.

SOOOOO .... "COST US NOTHING" ....

Having Calipari stay longer than his welcome cost us greatly. Do I need to remind you how bad those last 5 years were historically for Kentucky?
Only ONE NCAA tournament win, one of our longest streaks without a sweet 16.
Only One SEC tournament win !! 52 total losses. 105-52 !!! 49.5 % and the record against top 25 teams was atrocious

You keep saying people sound stupid in this thread.

So yea, it cost us. It cost us relevance, it cost us leverage on top of the mountain of College Basketball. It cost us keeping a coach until he was ready to leave on his own instead of when we could decide he wasn't cutting it by Kentucky standards anymore.

With tubby that's exactly what happened, he wasn't cutting it and he knew he had to leave. Tubby didn't have some ridiculous lifetime contract with tens of millions in buyout... even if Tubby did have that, I'm not sure he would have made us pay, but that's a different discussion. Tubby was a great guy. IMO tubby did not over stay his welcome and did the right thing and timing was right for his departure. Tubby had his two last 12 and 13 loss 2nd round exit seasons, and knew he wasn't cut out for Kentucky and left.

Calipari had One of our worst seasons ever 9-16 and followed that season up with a first round loss to St peters while having the National Player of the year... The talk Cals last 3 years was always, we can't buy him out, lets not even talk about a coaching change. I listen to KSR almost every day and I heard Matt say this a million times. We can't buy him out so lets not even talk about a coaching change. It cost us MR. DR Hannibal Lecter on the sports forum (lame)

One more thing. That contract Mitch Gave Calipari due to fear of Cal leaving UK for UCLA. That's the dumbest thing i've ever heard. I never would believe Calipari would Leave Kentucky For UCLA where they can't even come close to filling half their stadium. Mitch didn't need to make that contract so insane.

Your life-time narrative about Cal's contract shows just how wrong you were. Did we pay Cal a dime to leave? No. So stop it with your ignorance about it. It worked perfectly.
Hey Dr cannibal it's obvious you love mitch and alot of us don't leave it at that and move on . The two major sports in this university are in dire need of a upgrade in the AD department and no sunshine pumping is going to cure it

Then I'd suggest not making stupid comments about the contract that are factually and provably wrong. That has nothing to do with like or dislike for MB.

Upgrade in basketball? So you don't like Pope. Got it. You can argue that if you wish.

As for FB, we have never been a power in FB. A midpack SEC for our existence. Not MBs fault but we can do better than Stoops. This is not the FB board. You can take that up over there.
