Your life-time narrative about Cal's contract shows just how wrong you were. Did we pay Cal a dime to leave? No. So stop it with your ignorance about it. It worked perfectly.
It’s a formula that begins with hiring someone from Kentucky someone who understands the high standards of our basketball program. It’s not like we have a list of possible ADs. They could come from one of many executive backgrounds. From a basketball perspective I’d like to see a guy like tayshaun prince. And the best option no one would go for but it’s pitino. You want to win across all sports you hire the guy who knows the state better than anyone. He’s a college guy and the one of the all time greatest. At the end of the day though we shouldn’t be hiring presidents and ADs from other states. That sends a message that the state doesn’t produce great winners.
Scott Stricklin (former Associate AD at UK, and current AD of Florida) would be my first call.

Some sort of connections. Mike Pratt was your generations cm Newton. He protected the bb program the best he could. He could have easily run the AD with success. I’m no Mitch fan and wish he had left years ago.
But the reason he is loved by UK brass is because UK athletics is a cash cow. We have very few compliance issues and the ones we do have are minor.
The non revenue sports have thrived under his leadership and that’s important to the board.
As for NIL, UK is in no way handicapped.
We have not lost one player over money. And we will not lose a player over money.

I don’t think it matters. It’s not hard to make money or grow the way the ncaa has evolved. Seems like we have a 30 year period between fb “success”. And the problem I have is this. If athletics is a cash cow… why would there be excuses thrown out regarding money for these programs? When Barney gave science that 40 mil did he know nil was coming? Why the hell didn’t he take care of the primary sport Kentuckians care about? I just feel regardless of the AD. The time barney came on the scene most programs were finding some kind of success. Duke UNCheat Kansas UK fb was going to find success with the transfer portal. Now he sitting there with another overpaid coach and an underachieving program.

I don't trust Mitch at all in decision making, it is what it is. I sometimes feel like he has this moral holier than thou thing but I could be wrong. Some schools are doing whatever it takes to win, bend rules. And if I was honest, I'd say we should to. Do what needs to be done to compete. After all, this is a competition, sports.
I feel like we got lucky Cal breached contract and we didn't have to pay a buyout but I also wonder if we had a different AD who got along with calipari, would the Cal downfall ever happened? I was fed up with cal as much as anybody but if Cal does really well at Arkansas It says something doesn't it?

I’ll say the same thing every time a Mitch thread comes up. He is a university president and BOT dream AD and a fans worst nightmare at times. He’s not going anywhere until he leaves on his own.

Remember we are not just fans but microwave fan no less. Until the expectations are the same in football as basketball in the SEC our claims to fame are we went to a bowl game. With the money that comes into the SEC every school will push the limits to win because in these minds losing is worse than probation. SEC motto: If you aint cheating, you aint trying.

Barnhart didn’t name the complex after himself. Our boosters (i.e., the Bells) insisted upon naming the complex after the Barnhart family and the Board of Trustees agreed to approve it.
You’re wrong about the facts here. @DrH. Lecter comment about you being wrong about other facts appears to have hit the nail on the head.
That last sentence is not correct. The $1 million admin role expired when the contract expired. Still a bad contract, but it wasn’t a $1 million gig until he retired. It was part of the 10 year deal he signed that expired in 2029
