Edit for clarification: With the understanding that OP isn't making a case against Cal:
I and many other on here have completely destroyed this argument that "Cal can't coach" so many damn times, it's not even worth rehashing. You guys get slain in those other threads, disappear, wait for your chance (after a loss, which is rare under Cal), and then gather in enough numbers to just override threads with idiocy.
No, you're not an idiot for ever criticizing Cal's coaching at all. We've all done that.
But if you honestly think he doesn't know basketball, that he's just this charismatic dummy who can't grasp the finer concepts of a game, then you need to be put back into your padded cell before you short circuit your computer with drool.
We've already gone through the comparisons - the other HOFers and their star averages per rosters, and demonstrated how Cal's performance still vastly outstrips everyone except K and Rick over the past 6 years, even after adjusting for talent (only you knuckle-draggers who don't understand how to account for the output of the system miss this point, eg. average talent per roster versus sheer number of 5 stars acquired over the years).
So even if there are 10 coaches in the country who could do what Cal has done with this level of talent (and it seems unlikely, considering K has just as many 5 stars per roster and their results have been very close), why the hell would you do anything but thank your lucky stars for a top 2 recruiter and top 10 coach?
There are two categories of eeyores here -
1. The panicky trolls, which includes both extreme negative nancies and louisville fans in disguise, whose only posts during the '12 and '15 seasons were immediately after losses. We've been seeing those all season. All of you, go home to your own boards.
2. The more recent group that we're seeing in the negative category are the goldfish-memory-having emotional 5 year olds.
Before the season, many of them lambasted us rational fans for predicting 4-7 losses on the season, asking us where in the world we could find so many losses on the schedule.
Those of us who are level-headed know that sometimes you have a bad day, and good-but-not-legendary teams can lose to mediocre squads when they have bad days.
Somehow, every single preseason, they forget this fact, and they say "there's no reason we can't have just 2 losses this season again". Yes, there is, you simpletons. It's called the normal ebb and flow of a season.
Life is all about expectations. Cal has spoiled some of you so badly that every single loss questions your faith in goodness and hope in the universe. There have been precious few 2-or-fewer loss seasons in CBB history, and Cal produced what? Half of them?
If you paid even the slightest bit of attention to the basketball landscape, you'd have known what to expect this season - instead, you guys can't differentiate between a strong roster and a legendary one, so when suddenly you see a team performing like a regular "good" squad (like this year - win majority of games, all Ws by double digits, but dropping the occasional head-scratcher), you start to panic, and the trolls who only post after losses to disparage Cal are lying in wait to prey on your delicate emotional state.
What a bunch of ingrates. Just wait til the next guy comes along. If it's Sean Miller, then he'll do the Cal thing and start this cycle all over again.
On the other hand, if it's a Jay Wright type, then the trolls will be all excited even when we're going to 2 Final Fours a decade because they personally dislike Cal more than they care about UK's success... but the emotional five year olds are going to come to a stark realization about what they were really asking for, and they'll wish they hadn't let the trolls take them for a ride - they'd have appreciated the moments Cal gave them a heck of a lot more.
