Why Does Every Team Shoot….

Because we don't have athletes who can stay in front of their guys off the dribble so we sag off and give them space around the perimeter and play the percentages. The problem is the percentages increase quite a lot when 3s are wide open.
Even though you are right, it makes Cal look worse when he had the atheletes and still couldn't.

Piss poor coaching by Pope. Plain and simple. He got lucky a couple times with his little “let them shoot 3’s unguarded” bullshit and just repeatedly throws it out there regardless of how well the other team shoots. He’s looking like a fraud. Definitely isn’t the coaching genius we were led to believe he was.

Well, giving them 4 feet of space to shoot on every 3 tends to make it easier for them.

Pope does that cause if we play them close, they will drive by us easily. It kind of is what it is at this point. If a team is hitting 3’s, they’ll beat us,

Lights out from 3 against us.
We could hit a three on them. The defense is bad and if they'd shown intensity in just 10 minutes of the first half they might have won.

Doesn't help Ole Miss shot lights out.

True our defense is at best mediocre, but teams get up for us. They are mentally in the game which nobody is every time. We just have to get used to that and come ready ourselves. If we had played 1st half like we did 2nd we win this game.

Our defense stinks but I bet if you watched some of these teams the next game they would be missing a lot of open shots .

And at one stretch Ole Miss started hitting everything even with a hand in their face .

It’s really hard to take posts like this seriously. If you can’t see that the opposing players are being left wide open then you probably should no longer watch the games.

Generally, D1 basketball players who are left wide open can make three-point shots. That is sort of why they’re on the roster.

True, but you gotta admit Ole Miss was hitting even the few contested threes we guarded. Like Arkansas, they won’t hit that well again all year.
Having said that, our D is pathetic.

As it has been said already, there’s no magic “we’re playing Kentucky, let’s all make miracle 3s”. UK has to give guys an extra step on the 3 to prevent blow bys. An extra step in high level Basketball is an open shot.

Prime example, Arkansas. Uk had to give more space to protect the paint and as a result they had a heck of a shooting performance, which led to Uk pressing up and getting blow by for lay ups in the second half.

I’m curious if we work on help side defense cause if our guy gets beat off the dribble it’s a layup or kick out for an open 3. Defense is about want to and grit, athleticism makes you better but you can still be a good defender and not an all time athlete or super talented. Look at ole miss, just a want to and fire to play it and I didn’t see a bench of 5 stars or nba portal guys playing for them so why are we so bad at it??

The 3s didn’t get me as much as the fall away from the basket 10 footers after we had played good defense as the shot clock winded down

Because of the lack of fundamentals and the team just not competing for both halves, and the consistently poor game preparation, im wondering if he's in over his head and just needed more time in the fire before coming here. Great guy. Wonderful family.

If we had bugs who weren't allergic to bodying up on defense, maybe teams wouldn't be so eager to drive to the basket. Finally today our guys in the second half worked to cut off the basket.
