WHY do our fans just keep supporting the SEC Tournament???!!!!

The head of officiating contracts the same people regularly. Referees are a club.
Exactly. I don’t understand why when I watch high school gams in person the officials are pretty darn good . I would love it if one season the schools went totally with the best high school officials they could find . The problem with the fraternity as it is now is refs who have been around have a bias against certain schools and try to get even for their buddies like Higgins .

We used to go regularly and gave it up about ten years ago for the reasons stated in various treads above .
I actually think we would be better off this year losing our first SEC tournament game and getting rested and mended for the NCAA .

Trashville sucks, legalized scalping leads to outrageous ticket prices especially when the Cats play, $10 for a can of beer, $300+ hotel rooms and have to listen to that suck ass country music everywhere you go! And get shafted by the horrible SEC officiating. NO !UCKING WAY IM GOING. I"LL go back when they move it back to Atlanta.

For some of us, Western Ky .Nashville closer than Lex. Atlanta USED to be a fun trip. Also for many of us that go it's our best chance to get decent seats to a UK game. Finally because we usually do very well in it. Cal got the last few years to where he stopped even trying to act like he gave 2 shits about it. I don't think that will be the case this year. After going for 12 years minus Covid I stopped going 2 years ago out of digust. Considerable investment to go see us tank.

We go every year and we never watch any of the other games. Almost no one else does either. We always have lower level books. I try to sell tickets to the sessions we are not attending. You might get $10 for them?

I did call the hotel today and change to getting there thursday instead of Friday. You are right about the expense though. Our hotel downtown is now $1300+ for 3 nights. 2 LL books are going to cost at least $2500 this year. maybe more? Be a $4500-5000 trip if we end up staying all 3 nights.
I would hang out Thursday and buy books off the losers for cheap.

The tourney will matter this year. We need it to get back to full strength and our lineup set again. Every game will be against a quad 1 team basically. It’s huge wins for the seed and our record.

If UK fans didn't go, the sec tournament would still sell out and the always packed bars would barely feel a difference.

Anyone that went any of the last few years its been in Nashville knows this is true. So it might sound like a good idea, but in reality would achieve nothing.

Years ago it would be a totally different story but not now.

That's what everyone always says. But it's not viable. I would guess 90% of the ticketholders are UK people. The people going to to those non UK games bought them from UK people.

It wouldn't. The whole town is taken over by UK. When UK loses early like the last 2 years the hotels empty out. You can't even give tickets away. The bars on Broadway will be mostly full because they are every weekend. But they feel it without UK.

When we lost on friday in '13 the title game on Sunday was Ole Miss and somebody. The true attendance was around 4K. And that was mostly UK people that flew in instead of drove.

The SEC tourney is all about UK. If UK just announced early that they weren't going they could move it to a local high school gym.

So do you think the SEC explicitly tells refs to give refs a poor whistle? Because there's no such thing as SEC officials. All officials are independent contractors who ref for whatever conference they want to. The whole "SEC refs" thing is a myth.
Watch and see what kind of whistle that Arkansas gets in the conference tournament............. The SEC knows they will need to get them a couple of wins so they get into the NCAA. .......The officiating is one of the reasons I can't sit and watch a game from start to finish. I check the score several times during the game......

In conjunction with the officiating, I really couldn't give a crap about the SECT and these teams being allowed to mug us into injuries for 4 nights in a row. No thanks.

The only redeeming quality of it (aside from a fan perspective) is because of the NCAAT deeding implications. But aside from that, we could lose opening round on purpose to stay healthy for the real tournament, and i wouldn't be upset in the slightest.

Good luck trying to convince UK fans not to show up for a Kentucky game.

Maybe if Joker Phillips was coaching, but…

I have only gone once and KY won 1 game then got knocked out- we went to every game and the arena was maybe half full for every non KY game, including the title game- after KY lost, you could buy tix to any game for nearly nothing

The SEC was tougher then than now I think.

Arkansas was bad ass. Miss St went to the FF in ‘96.

Ga had a two time FF coach in Durham. Folger at SC.

Alabama had Wimp. LSU had Shaq and Chris Jackson

Ark fans are the only ones to ever give UK fans a run at the SEC tourney.
I didn't post in the other thread but since CaptainBoogerBuns laughed at this post I'll reply.
The SEC before the last couple of years has NEVER got the respect it deserved as a conference from a basketball point of view.
In the past, the SEC like every other conference has been "top heavy". Kentucky was almost always good and there would be one or two other really good teams along with 4 - 6 others that were decent to good and then the bottom 3-4 that were bad. The SEC has not been "cupcake city" for UK has those rival fans and haters like to try and portray.
If I asked 100 people which conference has had the most teams go to a final four, the ACC or the SEC, probably 100 would say the ACC and 100 people would be incorrect. (ACC=9, SEC=10)

UK also didn't become "everyone's Superbowl" when Cal became coach. UK has been the "big game" for everyone (even outside the SEC) for decades.
Kansas, Duke, and and UNC get that too. One difference though is that UK has never got the "favortism" that those schools have got within their conference. Thiose three schools have been protected by "the whistle" even on the road for years.
