WHY do our fans just keep supporting the SEC Tournament???!!!!

I stopped going when our previous "coach" made it clear that it was an inconvenience to him.
Every UK coach has hated the SEC tourney.

Joe B tried to stop it from coming back.

Cal just said it out loud.

But I love the SEC tournament. It’s a UK homecoming.

I go every year and I’ll be there this year. Looks like we will have to go a day earlier than planned.

But we will be there.

I would consider going back now.

Work is tedious. You can't say it out loud.

Pitino hated it?

Could have fooled me by how he whooped everyone's ass with a 17-1 SEC tourney record and five SEC tourney titles in only 6 years of eligibility.

So do you think the SEC explicitly tells refs to give refs a poor whistle? Because there's no such thing as SEC officials. All officials are independent contractors who ref for whatever conference they want to. The whole "SEC refs" thing is a myth.

The head of officiating contracts the same people regularly. Referees are a club.

Yes. He always talked about wishing we didn’t have to play it and it was of no use.

But he wanted to win since we were in it. And so did Cal. Cal’s first 3 seasons he won every SEC game until the final against Vandy in ‘12.

Then we lost the first game in ‘13. Then 2-1 in ‘14. 3-0 in ‘15, ‘16 escapes me at the moment, 3-0 in ‘17 and ‘18, 1-1 in ‘19 then won the SEC by 3 games in ‘20 and didn’t get to play the tourney. After that it was awful. 0-1 in ‘21, 1-1 in ‘22, 0-1 in ‘23 and ‘24.

I was present for every one.

So even though Cal openly hated it, he tried to win it.

Pitino ACTUALLY always called the SEC Tournament a "Dress Rehearsal" for the NCAA Tournament. He used it as a tool to get better the week before the NCAA.

Now he stated that in 96 he didn't mind that they lost in the final game to Miss.St. because it had been a long time(the Cal UMass team) since they had lost.

I don’t know what he said to the press about it.

But to everyone that would listen he hated it.

Even Tubby openly speculated that getting rest might be better than playing a no meaning tournament.

Pitino was a marketer. He knew the fans loved it. So he played to the want.

He never played up the Miss St loss as a good thing until after the fact. 😜

The way the SEC treats our team on the road AND at home with these CORRUPT officials, makes it EXTREMELY HARD for me to EVER go back to it!!!!

I went for 20 years straight from the late 1990's until 2019. But with the way our games have been officiated, It REALLY pisses me off!!!
BBN supports the Cats. And for many fans getting tickets and going to a game in Rupp isn’t easy. But also at the SEC-T you hope to see the Cats play multiple games all in 2 trip.

Now that the tournament is exclusively in Nashville, the cost has gone WAY UP!!!

Hotel rooms are outrageous, ticket prices are outrageous and so is the nightlife. When I used to go, it was MUCH cheaper for ALL of those.

So, when a fan invests all of the money and enthusiasm into going now, it is a HUGE undertaking. All I'm saying is that the SEC SHOULD appreciate the UK fans MORE by treating us a little better. Without UK Fans, the SEC Tournament would be a GHOST TOWN.

I see no need for a conference tournament when u play an 18 game conference schedule. I would like it changed to play every conference opponent one time and get some good ooc games scheduled to beef up the schedule. I know it will never happen.

I would say most just want a quick vacation. So they decide to do it around UK games. Some people just like basketball and will actually watch the book of games. Last final four I want to I watched all games. Last regional in Rupp I watched all games. This year do not have tickets for games at Rupp but if I did I would watch the games.

I wish they would go back to 16 games.

Play everyone once and then rotate who you play a second time every year to give you an even 16.

You really can’t get much more fair than that.

That gets DISRESPECTED by those that BENEFIT the MOST from our "nation"!!!!

I'm just tired of being taken for granted!!!

Watch Duke in the ACC and see how their conference treats them!!! That's how the SEC SHOULD treat UK!!!
IMO, as long as any of us "expect" any level of treatment or respect, we will always be disappointed. I choose not to expect anything from these clowns ... just win, in spite of bad officiating. To complain about it will probably only make it worse. Just play the game and win. Biased officiating can only affect the outcome of any game to a point. You have to just win at a margin wide enough to negate the bad calls. JMO.

We go every year and we never watch any of the other games. Almost no one else does either. We always have lower level books. I try to sell tickets to the sessions we are not attending. You might get $10 for them?

I did call the hotel today and change to getting there thursday instead of Friday. You are right about the expense though. Our hotel downtown is now $1300+ for 3 nights. 2 LL books are going to cost at least $2500 this year. maybe more? Be a $4500-5000 trip if we end up staying all 3 nights.

There's 16 teams now.

I think we should play everyone 1 time. That's 15 games. Then we could play some basketball schools with those other 3 games.

Planning on going. We usually stay away from downtown. Hotels just too much. We'll stay 20 min away. Save a few bucks. Put that towards tickets we buy on the street or resale sites.

Doing a long term deal in Nashville was a mistake. Especially now that we've expanded. Should try it once in Dallas at AAC where Mavs play. Cheap flight. Driving is possible. Hotels are cheap. Can get one near a Dart Line in the burbs and not rent a car or need Uber. Plenty bars nearby. Something different.

My two cents…we fall victim to being the game everyone circles when we come to town. Refs fall in love with the crowd and their tshirt night but at home it plays against us. No where else in the SEC do you get booed by 24,000 for whistling anything against the Cats. Good or bad calls. These assholes love to be hated too and they get off getting booed by that many.

Now, I think the SEC absolutely tries to control UK games sometimes because a win against UK might make the difference in making the tournament or not. More teams = more money. When it comes to the SEC tournament, most years you see the games officiated pretty evenly. I can’t remember too many times a good UK team going home early in the SEC tournament because of shitty officiating.

Funny how that works

I’ve been to every venue for the SEC.

Best time is NO.

But I’ve always thought the best place to have it is Atlanta.

It’s a further drive for us but it’s centrally located and you can stay anywhere. Hop on the train and get the arena without having to drive.

We like to stay waking distance in Nashville. It’s a little cheaper out. But it’s $50 Uber round trip. Do that twice and that’s a $100/day plus the inconvenience.

This is one of our vacations. There’s a large group that goes together. We don’t always stay at the same hotels or sit together. But we hook up before and after the games.

We booked our room in March last year as we were leaving.

The SEC does agree to have the tournament in the states of the new schools. That’s why it was in St Louis in 2018.

But it’s booked in Nashville thru 2030, I think?

So it will be after that before we go to Oklahoma and Texas.

That’s right about the time our whistle started to change and has gotten continuously worse. It’s almost like the SEC had a plan to balance out the conference. Hummm??
From Blue Blood to New Blood. I’m sure I read that somewhere.

Cal won more games in the SEC tourney than Pitino ever did.

Not in his last 5-6 years. . Once our whistle began to change it’s gotten continuously worse.
Every time an opponent drives they either score or a foul is called. Sometimes they even wait to see if it’s going in before blowing the whistle.
It’s pretty obvious.
I do believe I said Cal won so much at the beginning other teams stopped even coming to Nashville.
BBN will not have a majority at the Tournament for the first time since I’ve been alive.
I believe that’s exactly what the league office was trying to do with all these bullcrap, phantom calls.

Our performance the last few years had nothing to do with officials.

Maybe the ‘19 game against UT?

We had that game won until Grant Williams started flopping around and getting every call.

But my point was that people want to say that Pitino must have liked it because he won so much there.

And they whine about Cal talking it down. But Cal dominated the SEC tourney more than Pitino did. Ave more than Tubby did.

Only coach we’ve ever had win more in the SEC tourney than Cal is Rupp.

And they didn’t even have it his last 10 years.

Remember that was when SEC sucked and they didn't have elite coaches lol
The SEC was tougher then than now I think.

Arkansas was bad ass. Miss St went to the FF in ‘96.

Ga had a two time FF coach in Durham. Folger at SC.

Alabama had Wimp. LSU had Shaq and Chris Jackson

Ark fans are the only ones to ever give UK fans a run at the SEC tourney.

I loved the Arkansas games. I was referring to the other thread bout the SEC being too tough for us
