Why did we learn from the first Oklahoma game?

It took a monumental performance from Oweh to win last time.
What do we do differently to beat them a 2nd time?

A healthier Carr could be the difference and he and Amari logged 19 minutes.
Sooners lean very heavy on their starting 5.

Oklahoma is not very good away from home.

Oklahoma players are already running their mouths saying it will be different this time, sometimes the revenge factor doesn't work out so well. If we are focused and ready to play, we should take care of business, Garrison needs to keep his cool this game because they will try to rattle him. Oweh needs to play his game and not try to do to much. They hit 10 threes last game against us with Goodine making 4 three pointers and they will probably shoot better against us this time because it always happens that way, maybe not because they shot it better than they usually do last game. Teams like Oklahoma usually don't fare well coming to Nashville to play Kentucky, we need to show them this is Wildcat country from the minute they get in Nashville till the plane leaves for Norman.

Fears another flopper because of him wanting to get to the rim and his size. Will the refs let us guard him or will Butler not be able to defend like last game? More desire than them and we are good. Less desire than them gives them a shot IMO.

I am worried about their quick guards and whether we can stay in front of them . We need to block a lot of shots while still guarding the three. Butler and Oweh have to play great defense if we are to win. I am worried however as guards like Sears, Clayton, and Baker-Mazara have definitely been a problem for us.

They can draw fouls and make their free throws. Make them take contested shots and don’t go for the shot fake.
We make open shots and we open the middle up for the bigs to score.

This is home game for us or atleast the crowd will make it that way, we just have to stay out of foul trouble and cannot get caught up in their stupid antics. You know they’re going after BG and OO for sure but Carr is the key seems like. When he plays good, this team looks so much better so I expect a big game from him & butler tonight.

Interesting. Because last night they were away from home and won with Fears going off.

I'm fine with letting one guy go off as long as we contain the rest of the team and get our points. We can't be trading baskets all game because that's when one guy can and will beat you. We need a lead and keep the lead and then allow Fears to get his over the entire game, not in huge bunches to bring them back within reach.

I guess one way to look at this is just shut him down to 50% of his recent production and the rest of the team won't be able to do anything to win.

Also, as someone mentioned above, OU likes to depend on 5 starters for much of the game, maybe only going 6-7 deep before a major drop off. Having played last night may ding their legs a little tonight given their lack of depth and reliance on starters.

Remember, Pope has seen them now. He is smart enough to know how they need to play this game differently the second time. It will be interesting to see what Pope does different that is effective the second time around with them. Now I feel better knowing that Butler can play without playing much defense if he needs to. And Carr seems to be back to his old self.

Yea, I agree. But they were like 3-7 on road games, and I fully expect this to be like a road game for them tonight. Like you mentioned, they are coming off a game 24 hours ago. Not saying we can't lose, with tournaments, who knows, but I do feel like Pope will have us focused and we win by 15+. We need to get into Fears legs early.

Outside of Oweh, I thought UK played pretty lackluster last game. It’s not like UK played their very best and barely won. I expect the team will be in a better spot than last time and dialed in.

My biggest concern is the refs and if they fall for the head snaps, etc on their drives.
Garrison played well last time. He just had a dumbass moment at the end.

Going in, I would have rather played UGA because I think Oklahoma is better than their record indicates, and the UGA loss felt fluky. I know I'm going to sound like Cal here, but this is an opportunity to get better. I thought UK's defense was much better in the last two regular-season games, especially at the rim, so here's another opportunity to continue to improve on that end of the floor.

My concern is their 3 point shooters.

Fears isn’t a great shooter from deep but went 4-7 last night.

The Goodine, Miles, Moore, Forsythe group that all shoot 38+% from 3 are my concern when they complement Fears attacking off the dribble.

They were able to stay with us in the first matchup due in large part to making 7 3s in the second half.

This is a great potential test for a possible 3 v 11 matchup next weekend.

We controlled much of that game. I think we should double Fears when we can and make someone else beat us. That or let him get his and play everyone else hard. Make him score 40 to win.

Sheesh I had forgotten about that little wrinkle from our first meeting with them. Yeah, a lot is going to depend on whether our guys are allowed to glance at Oklahoma players without getting whistled for it.

That we need to be healthy and want to win more than the other team to be successful in March.
