When I was a kid I sort of like the Oakland Raiders. Don’t know why, just liked the bad boy aspect of that team. Loved Fred Biletnikoff.

My first adult NFL team was the Washington Redskins. I lived in the DC area during the whole Joe Gibbs era in the 80s and 90s. Good times. Never got to see a game in person until 2003 just before we moved away.

Then I married a Boston guy, and became a Patriots fan after that. Briefly lived in San Diego, so I had a soft spot for the Chargers until they moved to LA, now I wouldn’t piss on them if they were on fire. I hate all LA sports teams.
UKay, I was thinking of you in last few weeks. Hadn't seen a post of yours in years. Wow.

I grew up a fan of all Chicago sports teams because of WGN channel 9 they aired a lot of the games. I always watched the Bears, Bulls, and Cubs on there and I'm still a fan of each team as an adult.

Bears fan because the first NFL season I can remember watching was 1985. Been a fan ever since.

I was already also already a Cubs fan thanks to WGN being my after school babysitter.

If Murray basketball had UK's history, everyone in the state would be a Murray fan. The same reason you're bagging on people for picking a favorite pro team is the same reason you're a UK fan.
That’s an interesting take. It might have an ounce of validity for basketball.

So how do you explain the allegiance so many of us have to UK football?

Ps: which bandwagon do you ride?

Teams that don't win aren't on tv. You can't make a connection with something you never see. People become fans of the Cowboys, Steelers, Yankees, etc because that's what they see.
I’m not trying to argue with you, but that simply isn’t true. I live close to Louisville and pretty much every week I can watch the Colts or the Bengals. They televise those games because they are the regional teams that a lot of people pull for.

Because growing up in Kentucky my Mom bought me a Minnesota Vikings letterman jacket when I was like 8 yrs old.

This was back in the mid 70’s when the Vikings were going to SBs every year.

Years later I asked her why the Vikings jacket? She said it was probably on sale but I doubted that because back then the Vikes were the ish.

My take on it is even though Valley St., where my Mom grew up is Cincinnati Bengals territory, she went to Valley HS which are the Vikings.

Thats my story and Im sticking to it!

SKOL!
That's me , I grew up loving the purple people eaters ,Allen page , although i had a black and white tv. the horns on the Helmets were cool , I lived in VS and went to Stuart . love KY football and think it's going to be a good year.

But there are lots of areas that don't have a regional team and those areas get whatever the highest profile game is. As a kid growing up, my tv stations were out of Nashville, the Titans were still the Houston Oilers. The only time I saw the Bengals was the short time they were good with Boomer.

The Bucs have a loyal following down here, always have even when they were the Yucks. Then the Blazers bought the team and for the first time it was ran like a team should be.They brought in Dungy and actual coach, made better draft picks.Brady has nothing to do with the HARD CORE Buc fans.

I’ve been a Green Bay Packers fan for as long as I can remember. My grandfather was a Packers fan and when I started watching Brett Favre was QB and I was just in awe of him. I remember when they went with Rodgers over Favre I was so upset I started watching the Vikings play just to see Favre. In hindsight they made the right choice I just hope they are as lucky with their next QB, would love to see them figure out a way to pickup Burrow. Now I watch the Packers and as long as Benny is playing I watch the Steelers.

Yeah I'm a bucs fan who isn't thrilled with the Brady thing. He is well past his prime and we don't need bandwagon fans. Its painful to be a bucs fan, it ain't about Brady and gronk.

I’m a Bronco fan because I live in the Denver area. Growing up in Kentucky I had no NFL allegiance. My senior year at UK, ‘78-‘79 when I realized I was coming to Colorado to graduate school I started reading the Sunday Denver Post every week in the periodical room of the M.I. King library. I quickly realized the Broncos were the biggest thing in Colorado sports, and became a fan. 41 years now, and 3 Super Bowl titles later. Even now with 5 professional franchises they are still by far and away the biggest thing in Colorado sports.
