Why are we playing Flax?

I was at the game and Flax did not play well. I, too, wonder why Buford isn't playing more after filling in pretty solidly when Flax was injured. Flax is decent on running plays but isn't getting it done on passing plays. Plain and simple.

Now, is Buford or anyone else better? We don't see them in practice but I'd certainly be OK giving someone else some snaps.

Gonna chalk this thread up to an emotional response, rather than a reasoned question.
Buford played vs. Miss St and did a solid job. He's not prototypical big enough for a tackle...but his feet are pretty good. Flax looks like he's lunging and doesn't have any twitch to him.

He had 2 more motion penalties and I can't even mention how many times he failed to get off the snap and keep the edge from crossing his face and killing a run play to the opposite side. He's really bad...I'd argue Flax and Jager Burton are far and away the weakest links on the Oline.

Buford was called out in Miss St game as a solid performance...and now he doesn't even rotate with Flax. Yenser is pure crap coach IMO

I watched a few interviews with Yenser before the season. I don't think he is cutout for college.

Flax is mediocre. Says alot that he's starting. The experience on the OL isn't talented and the talent isnt experienced.

Jager isn't ready. Cox is way overrated. Horsey is out of position. Manning is probably the best of the bunch and he didn't start for Auburn iirc.

Next year goodwin or wohlabough one absolutely must take that LT spot (preferably wohlabough). Horsey back to guard. Jager to guard or c. Cox guard or c. Then Goodwin or Buford to rt.

1. Horsey is a Sr....he's gone is he not?
2. You cna't be serious about Wohlbaugh starting next year.....

If that Oline rolls out next year with a ? at QB adn the RB we have coming back....that is a terrible looking season.

Could take a covid year. Wohlabough will be good before he leaves here. He gets a major bad rap from fans like you that don't understand OL play.

Neither Goodwin nor Buford are lts

OK....you know Oline play and you think Wohlbaugh isn't all that bad? Maybe you don't know Oline play as much as you think you do. Wohlbaugh may develop into a good player....but he ain't today and I can't see him being a good player next year as well. He's a project in every aspect of the word.

Horsey can come back with covid year.

Hard to see UK's o line troubles being fixed in 2023 if Goodwin is still on the bench as a non contributor

Have to hit the portal hard. Put all of them on notice their jobs are up for grabs if they want to keep it they have to put in the work in the off season. Go out and find about 3 portal guys who could start immediately.

How dd he look? I saw him with his helmet on the sidelines for the 1st time all season.
Can he still redshirt?
No RS, he's played STs in every game...and struggled at times. At least 2 XP/FG blocks were by the guy he was supposed to block. Just don't get why he or Young or Rodriquez or Hall or Bingham(Hall/Bingham have not played at all) haven't played other than STs.

BTW, LSU's two starting OTs are true freshmen. A&M's RT, RG, C are true freshmen.

First game neither he nor Jager handled twists yet he got sat. The ole miss fumble was all will. He had an acre of green grass to climb the pocket but just stood there.

Another key will be what we decide on for a philosophy. Will we try wide zone yet again? Or go back to inside zone/gap with some wide zone sprinkled in?

I disagree. He has bad feet and will always have bad feet. Same with flax
Hopefully, they are both not flax-footed in pass protection. Flax is good in run-blocking, it seems. It is difficult to be adept at both, especially early on in careers. Improvement can happen.

Wohlabough is young and needs more time in the weight room. Flax is a guard trying to play tackle. The fact he's a starter says alot.

Given what we've seen from Jager, I still think the best bet was to have him rotate at guard and just let wohlabough grow on the job. It couldn't be any worse than what we have and he is the eventual starter at LT unless we land someone big.

Flax and Buford should rotate at RT. Flax is out of position and we need Buford to step up.

Imo the biggest mishandling of personnel on the OL is the constant push for Jager. He hasn't played well. Wilson looked decent when in at guard but never saw the field again and they should've begged Dotson to come back.

Some of these sacks are definitely on Will but man that narrative has gotten out of control. We are AWFUL in pass pro as a unit.

Flax has been a joke at Oline today....Buford was solid in Miss St and then boom..>Flax comes back and just is handed the job again.

At least rotate the Oline a bit. Yenser pisses me off to no end. We can't come back with him next year.
I don't understand it either. Flax has been beaten several times because of lack of speed, had numerous false starts and at times has been pushed back to the QB.

I’ve been told it is shocking how far away(for a five star) Goodwin is from being an every down offensive tackle.
I have heard the same.

Not all 5 stars are created equal and the competition he played against last season was poor.

It’s gonna take time and maybe even a position change (RT) before he becomes a starter.

We still don’t rotate OL. That was a big talking point after our last coach left, and Yenser came in giving a lot of lip service about
having a 8man rotation.

I know we suck. There is no way our 7th guy is much worse than our 4th or 5th.
