Why are we paying Akron for an away game?

Lol. Says this guy. Explain it for us ignorant people? I notice you didn’t explain shit. ****ing jackass. .
Bwhahahaha.
Once again personifying all things wrong on the internet.
OP fails to read (or now I'm realizing can't) the multiple posts in this thread that do explain it.
Including my own 8 posts up stamped at 1158.
In such a big hurry to post in anger, misses out on learning.
Mericuh.

I’m sorry. I didn’t realize Mitch himself stumbled upon this thread. We’ll hot damn, which one is Mitch? Thank you. Before you try and be a smart ass, don’t make yourself look foolish first.

May I please have a link, like from Mitch, “explaining” all this easy to read stuff? Hmm k thanks.

They customarily pay the opponents to come to their field. All programs do this. This is the way several smaller schools fund their entire program, for the most part. That is why you hear the phrase, The coach at UK is doing Coach X a favor $$$$$$$

Big 12 heavyweights Texas and Oklahoma will also be paying their opponents a pretty penny. Texas is writing North Texas a $875,000 check, while the Sooners will give Louisiana Tech $975,000 just for showing up in Norman
Not my argument, At all. We are PAYING a school to play at their house. Whether it happens or not, wtf?

Guys, it's just some accounting mumbo jumbo.
Cash flow, ROI, depreciation, tax write off. Stocks, bonds, sell, buy, liquidate.

And it's not that complicated.
We had a contract to play 2 and 1, we still are doing a 2 and 1.
Instead of paying 1.8 million in two years, were paying 2 million over 3 years.
Instead of pretending we will travel there in 2023, we are actually going to play them at home 2023 and skip out on the contract in 2024.
We are adding a tiny bit of juice to move up the game.

Sounds like Mitch made a good deal.
So I saw this, it’s still a shit deal. Akron is “tough guying” us now?

if the game is never going to be played, ahh never mind. We’re both gonna be right and wrong in each other’s perspectives. Ain’t got the energy. Hope your right. Mitch is shit at contracts though and even you(or anyone) cant deny that.

We understand…they’re spreading the payment out over three years. But are we that broke to not just give them a lump sum and call it a day for the two home games or is Akron a bunch of junkies and can’t be trusted with the dough?

Hadn't taken off the training wheels yet. Just look at that goofy mug... reminds me of Gomer back in Mayberry. I like the guy for what has proven to be his general competence and particularly his handling of football (however he got to this place). But, without question, Billy Clyde was a darkly comedic failure. It just matters less to me, because hoops matters less to me. I will always be bitter about the way our football program was allowed to languish in the hands of hoops-focused AD's for decades.

Thanks for the clarification Mitch; now can you please explain your love affair with the checkerboards?

Always fun to talk scheduling in the offseason! Almost as good as backup QB debates!

Isn't the market really cutthroat for these OOC opponents now? Perhaps the pay for the away game is just spreading out the charge for the home game?
That is the answer, 2 for 1 deal but spread the 2 home guarantees over three seasons

We have paid off East Carolina and Eastern Michigan to get out of games, Souther Miss was an anomaly as we were desperate to fill a game in short notice after UAB unexpectedly shut down their program.

But, it is getting harder and harder to get an opponent in here for a 1 off home game.

We will try to pay Akron off until it makes no financial sense, depending on Akron we may very well have to play up there.

Indiana at WKU, Miss State at La Tech just last year with many more power 5 teams going to non power 5 home fields.

I believe he has done a masterful job at scheduling and I believe it has helped accelerate the rise of this program.

This thread sums up the internet in general the past few years
Op can't comprehend an article he read.
Because he trapped in an agenda mindset, Instead of using this place to help understand the issue, starts blasting Mitch. calling it a mess. Assuming he knows better.
Other users, not understanding the limitations of OP, just takes his word for it and don't read the article.
More blasting of Mitch and spreading of misinformation follows.
My father always said, “come from curious.” It was the best advice he ever gave me.

It is crazy. Who would have thought that 10 years ago, ya know?
