Who was your favorite random team over the years?

2016 Oklahoma with buddy hield were very fun to watch. Also even though they were in our bracket that year, 2018 Loyola Chicago was a really cool story as well

Loyola Marymount with Hank Gathers and company
Chicago Loyola. 1963.

1st game I ever saw on TV. We lived in Louisville and the game was at Freedom Hall so we watched. Loyola won in OT on a tip. I was hooked.

IIRC, Loyola didn't sub the whole game. But I could be wrong.

91-92 ETSU - The #14 seeded Bucs beat #3 seed Arizona in the opening round and lost a 102-90 shootout against Michigan's Fab 5 in the 2nd round. Those guys went to 4 straight NCAA tournaments and came within an eyelash of being a #16 seed beating a #1 seed as Alvin West's last second shot clanged off the rim against an Oklahoma team that would make the Final Four.

Is that the Keith Jennings team?

They were and if they beat any team other than UK a ton of people would be mentioning St Peter's from 2022.
My big unpopular Uk fan opinion is if Kentucky beats Kansas state in the sweet 16 that year, Kentucky loses to Loyola Chicago in the elite 8. Loyola Chicago was beating whenever they played that day barring maybe Villanova and Duke

I agree. They has a team of destiny vibe.

That UK team would have choked n a close game against Loyola and their witch doctor old lady.

1st team I thought of. Team was fun to watch and then tragedy struck. Never forget the moment Gathers dropped to the floor. Loved watching him play, a life taken far too young. Pulled for them all the way.
Saw Dobbins Tech HS at the King of the Bluegrass in the early 80's. Bo Kimble, Hank Gathers and Doug Overton was on that team. There are wooden jerseys along the wall of the gym there at Fairdale for winners of that tournament. There's a black stripe on the Dobbins jersey in memory of Gathers. Outside of Baltimore Dunbar in 1982, they were the best HS team I've seen in person.

I really enjoyed that 2005 WVU team with Kevin Pittsnogle and company. The Butler teams with Hayward and Mack, and Dunk U were great as well.
Ha, yes, this popped in my mind as well. I barely remember that team but just remember really enjoying watching him play.

For me, it was the 1988-89 Illinois team who had Kendall Gill, Marcus Liberty, Nick Anderson and Kenny Battle. That was a fun team to watch and UK was terrible that year, so enjoyed watching them.
Funny, but I was going to say the same thing. It was easy to root for a second team that year as we circled the drain.

In fact, that might be the only non-UK team that I ever closely followed and rooted for.

Good team there. Lost to Michigan in the Final Four. If only Seton Hall would've pulled it out. Johnny Morton was unstoppable.

As much as I loved beating LSU when Dale Brown was there, they were my 2nd favorite SEC team and I pulled for them from the early 70s on (especially Dale Brown Years (Bruce Pearl of his time, lol)). Then Creighton Blue Jays, Wichita State Shockers and Xavier / Dayton. Now I like to follow NKU, Loyola Creighton and Bellarmine.

Maybe but Ricky Blanton changed all that for me. Screw LSWho.

I was at the game in rupp. Hated him a ton as well. But LSU was the team that sent me my first recruiting letter way back in the 1900's. I was a fan before that but i still have an LSU ball cap and LSU clothing. I do not wear often (just every once and a while). Never wear their colors when we play them (bad luck). Purple and yellow do not touch me that day. I even make sure my wife's mason plates in the cupboard have the blue (wrong blue but blue) over top of the yellow on game day.

Leather Weapon 3 in 89-90 was an amazingly fun team to watch. GT had a great team but UNLV just had a bit more.

Loyola Maramount team was special after Gathers passed. Those dudes dedicated season to him and made an amazing run. Still remember tearing up watching Kimble shoot left handed FTs in honor of Hank. Same year as GT.

That 1990 Final Four was really loaded…

UNLV
GT
Duke
Arkansas
