Shai is now ranked higher, according to 247 Sports. He apparently shoots better, and is taller. He is now a 5 Star recruit, and Quade has slipped down to 4 Star status.

I know rankings mean nothing to Cal, so at this point, it looks like it will have to be settled in practice. I guess it will boil down to which one wants it the most. There should be some intense scrimmages.

Bamba was looking forward to being the recipient of Quade's assists. But I guess he will make his decision before any of this guard competition is settled.

Quade more of a facilitator and therefore will be the PG...as well as Shai can shoot, he'd be a great 2 now

Curious as to why you think he "deserves" to be the starting PG?

Because he runs a team like a point guard should. What has he done to not deserve it? Shai will play plenty and may possibly start along side him at some point but players are coming here because they like playing with him for more than just his friendship.

Shai will get plenty of time but no discussion needed, Quade was brought in to be the starting point guard and deserves to be so.

No one "deserves" anything at this point. Cal does not promise any playing time. Playing time is earned at practice in the Craft Center, and not earned or deserved on reputation, ranking, or AllStar game performance.

Because he ran his high school team well he deserves to be the starting PG at UK? He will have to go out and earn it like everyone else. Sounds cliche (insert Brad Calipari tattoo), but he hasn't earned a thing yet.

That being said, I do think he will go out and earn it and be our starting PG. But he doesn't deserve anything.

Deserves may not be a good way to put it. My point is I didn't see anything in the games to think he won't or doesn't deserve to.

This question is being asked because the jackass who ranked Austin Rivers over Anthony Davis decided to go against the grain and rank Shai over Quade.

Think about that before answering in this thread..

They'll both play a lot. If I could have one it would be Alexander. As good as he is he'll only get better, he's long and can guard several positions.

I mean, watch them play. If not for the rankings nonsense, no one would ever try to argue this point.
This. Quade has real star power. An unbelievable distributor with eyes always downcourt, always hunting, always finding the open man. College defenses can stop even the best scorer, but they can't stop great passing. Quade is gonna be the straw that stirs the milkshake. Shai is going to be an excellent backup for both guard spots, and play nearly starter minutes.

I think Green is the better distributor of the two and with the weapons we will likely have, starting him makes the most sense to me. SGA is a hell of a backup to have, though. He will see a great deal of minutes. I can see him playing along with Green and Diallo when going to a 3 guard set makes the most sense. Green, SGA, Diallo, Johnson, and Bamba... try to play zone against that lineup! Ha ha!

Why does he deserve it if Shai is better? I say let the better man win. I don't have a clue which is better. Cal will decide that but NO ONE deserves it based on hs ranking.

For the third time I should have said in my opinion he deserves to be and I have not seen any reason to believe he doesn't. Not a knock on Shai who I am extremely happy to have here and was very impressed with his Derby Featival classic performance.

Fans cling to these rankings like a crackhead to drugs.

SGA moves ahead of Green and to no surprise.. 3 topics now, speculating if SGA should be our starter now. (which isn't a stretch to begin with, Shai grew like 4 inches and now has NBA height while retaining great small-guard ability)...

Green dropped in rankings because of a so-so JBC, concussion causing him to miss the NHS.. yet his MCD game was pretty solid.

Green has much better vision and is a lot better at making those around him better. With that said I like Shai's game a lot. I expect both to see a lot of time and expect both to be on the floor at the same time a decent amount so I'm not sure it really matters as they both will get PT.

Yeah seriously, what did Quade do to deserve dropping other than get a concussion?

I can't keep up with all of your usernames, you should be able to hold this one until the 2nd or 3rd football game....

The guy who starts is the correct choice to begin with, and if a change needs to be made it will since they are both freshmen. No problem either way.

Some of you should watch full "real" game films.

Quade Green is way stronger ball handler and quicker than Shai. Teams are going to want to pressure young guards...Green is going to protect the ball better and get to spots in college first year vs. Shai.

In the two games I've seen on Shai...I just never thought he looked like a strong shooter from deep. Maybe he's a better shooter than I give him credit for....but I see them as equal deep shooters.

Cal promises nothing, but let's be real, Green is responsible for helping get this class together and he will start at point for us. Silly to argue over it.

Green will start. Alexander is more versatile and will back up both the 1 and 2 plus be the third guard when we play a three guard set. Their minutes will be very similar.
