Poythress is the man he can shut him down. We have to defend everyone saying let the guy get his shut everyone else down is stupid.

Poythress is my choice. Maybe Mathews some. But hell. Let him get his little 20pts, 10rbs and 5ast and we'll stop the rest of their guys and still win by 8-10. As long as we limit Quarterman, Hornsby, Blakney, and Victor. Hornsby cant hit 4 or 5 3's though.
I would say make Simmons work for his and shut down the rest of the team . And drive the ball at Simmons and try to get him in foul trouble.
The best defense is called Confuse Johnny. Throw different defenders at Simmons every few trips and keep making him adjust.
One thing that would surely do is send simmons into the post; he wouldn't be putting the ball on the floor w/ tyler bellied up (well, belly to thighs anyhow) on him!
I'd start w/ Poythress as the primary defender, my second choice Matthews. It has to be somebody who can stay in front of him off the dribble, which rules out Skal and Lee. It doesn't have to necessarily be somebody w/ the height to bother his shot, because his shot is broken and a minimal threat regardless of how good a look he gets at the rim. With this in mind, I could see times when even briscoe might match up on him for short stretches.
This. Our offense can be our best defender. Have our quick smaller guards drive at him relentlessly. He can't hurt us, if he's sitting on the bench with foul trouble. And have PoY aggressively post him up and go at him. He's good, but he's still a freshmen and he can be bullied.
No way Poy can "shut him down" but he can slow him down I guess. I'm much more concerned about LSU hitting 10+ 3's than Simmons scoring 25-30 points on us. The former will definitely probably result in a LSU win as Simmons will get his regardless.
The obvious answer is Poythress. If we're being honest, we only have 3 guys on our entire roster capable of guarding this kid. He's special and if he goes off on us, you can't put much fault in our team. He's a future Nba superstar playing college basketball. Those type of talents you try to contain instead of shutting down. The only other 2 guys on our roster that could guard this kid would be Matthews and Briscoe. I know Simmons has a huge size advantage against those 2 players, but after watching Lsu play some this year, i think you're better off by having guards playing defense against Simmons than your average college big men. Matthews can fly and with Briscoe's frame, i think either of these 2 would be your best bets on Simmons. Willis and Lee have no shot guarding a guy like Simmons. This kid is just too quick and has too good of handles for either of those guys to guard him. Luckily for us Simmons jumpshot needs major work so whoever is guarding the kid needs to let him shoot as many as possible. I think Poythress will make Simmons work harder than normal to get his and by doing that, we should win this game by 10+ points.
