Who Guards Ben Simmons?

DO NOT DOUBLE. He is far to good of a passer. That will get us killed. Defend him by multiple guys, Lee, Poy, Matthews. Sag a bit and force him to shoot or pass. KEEP HIM OFF THE GLASS. The guy is brilliant around the basket and passing. He can't shoot at all from more than 6 feet. Force him out of his comfort zone.
Not sure who will, but it should be someone quick enough to cut him off from going to the basket. He is not a great outside shooter, and if you can keep him from driving to the basket, you can limit his scoring.
Could also be a situation where we guard him straight up one on one and see how it goes. Just have to shut down everyone else. So even if he goes for 30 we limit everyone else and win that way.
Look at Skal and tell him to cowboy UP. it's time to be the man.

Cal will not change what he does for any player, he will give Alex the assignment, when needed switch off with a little Marcus Lee, Skal. This may be what Skal needs, or it may be exactly what he does not need from a confidence stand point. Just get 12-15 minutes out of him, do not get shaken, and hold position.

Simmons has no jumper, and he has no back-to-the-basket game. Put Poythress on him, tell Poy to sag off when Simmons is on the perimeter. Gotta play good transition defense. Simmons is gonna have the ball most of the time in transition. One man fast break that can make players better in that aspect of the game.
WHO Cares LSU loses all the time with him getting 30 plus . It is stopping Hornsby and Quarterman that matter.
Correct me if I am wrong but Skal's issues stem from adverse physical contact? Not sure Simmons is one of those players that uses brute force versus athletic skill and ability. Maybe Skal can play against Simmons and at least show up...? Could be?
I say let Simmons get 40 points. If he does that, he will take 30 shots.

I like Poythress and Lee in countering what Simmons has to offer. His points come off driving to the lane and FTs. I agree, his jumper isn't ready, so avoid letting him drive to the basket.
Also, Simmons has 107 FTAs in 13 games.......he's making 75%. Along with that, he's only shot 3 3FGAs this year also.

Hornsby shoots 3's while guarded and asleep better than Ole Miss players(other than Moody)do unguarded and awake
Briscoe. He can get under him, bother his handle and is strong enough to keep him out of the lane. Just don't know if Poythress can guard him on the perimeter without fouling.
We need to be smart with weakside help too. Cant have the entire frontline trying to rotate over, giving him an easy drop off for an assist.

I haven't watched many of his games, but keep reading his shooting needs work. Will be interesting to see if he comes in and shoots lights out too.

10points, 7 boards, 2 assist, 2 blocks, 2 turnovers 5 fouls in 20 minutes of play. Then just rotate Jane and Mathews.

Skal will foul out in 5-10 mins guarding Simmons. How in the world do you have him surviving for 20? He has fouled out against much lesser opponents in 10-15mins of game time, see Ole Miss the other night for exhibit A.
