Where else in America can you get paid top 10 money and go 7-6, 7-6, 4-8 in three seasons yet keep your job? It's insanity to me that some have brainwashed themselves into thinking that we should be gracious to Stoops at this point. Nowhere in America can Stoops make this kind of money and put up this kind of performance. Nowhere. If anyone should be gracious, it is him to us. Not the other way around.
The man has received all of the leash a coach could ever dream of, yet couldn't show up to his own radio show once the going got tough, complains about NIL help while being unable to do anything with the guys he actually gets from NIL, and puts up horrible coaching performances. But somehow even some of our own media tell us we should still have some level of graciousness. Stoops LITERALLY received his reward for his 2 good seasons already with a top 10 salary that he has been receiving while putting up 30-60ish level teams for 3 seasons. The thanks and appreciation is far past and he has received all of the praise he has ever deserved. At some point the media needs to quit with the "well, but he built up Kentucky Football". That's like building up a company for 6 years and still expecting your employer to keep being appreciative for the buildup while it plunges into bankruptcy the following 3 years. All the while you are receiving a top end salary while the company fails and expect to keep your job. It's such a ridiculous concept that is being pushed. And it's a concept that ignores the level of investment the SEC has received regardless of a Stoops tenure here. We talk about how UK football was before Stoops and the upgrades, but we also ignore that everyone in the league is making these advancements due to the fact TV contracts have exploded since Stoops arrived. Kentucky Football wasn't going to just stay in the dumpster without Stoops like some ludacriously pretend it would. The money is now there for everyone to try and invest thanks much to TV and the portal. The proof is everywhere. Look at IU, Vandy, even Kansas had a good year, UConn is 7-3 thanks to portal investments, Ole Miss rose from the ashes, and many more. We need to quit pretending this is pre-2015 college football. It isn't, and Stoops is absolutely not the only reason Kentucky could/would improve as a football school.
