When is it time to be skeptical of Yenser?

Burton is missing assignments, Wohlbalaugh isn’t showing great assignment recognition yet(IMO). Those are very fixable and have no doubt they will be. Burton came in with a rep for being very athletic, that is what makes me believe he’s just thinking too much out there.

All the week one assignments it looked like were on Burton were on wohlabough. Burton was pffs highest rated UK player that game. Wohlabough wasn't picking up the twist.

Imo wohlabough already looked better last game at communicating. Encouraging sign.

Imo Cox is the one that's really underperforming given the pub

The thing with Eli, he might not be reacting fast enough quite yet, that’s a tough job. Drake is on staff and his understudy is still on the roster, yet they are giving the start to Cox. There’s something there it might just take a bit for it to show up. Also, I can’t remember a bad snap out of him this year, remember when Bunchy tried his hand at Center.

Jager whiffed a couple of times this week when he was lined up with Horsey.

Maybe he did and I missed it. The double a gap issues were on will. He needs to account for it but didn't until later when he made the best QB play of his career imo

We have a ton of talent, just need development and time.

We’ve had 2 of 3 the best 3 RBs in our over 100 year history in last 5 years (and some of best Olines)

Crod will help, experience and patience will as well.

Easy to compare against our best oline/rushing teams of all time in recent history haha

I mentioned this last week, I'll throw it out there again: The Center makes the calls for the OL on schemes depending on what he sees when the D lines up. He has to do it quickly, get the OL in the proper alignment. We've been spoiled in recent years what with Toth, Jackson, Fortner, etc, so hopefully with a little more film study, time spent with DJ and playing experience Cox comes around and will do a solid.

Maybe Yenser is having trouble with all of the twists and stunts opposing teams are throwing at our inexperienced line. He better get used to it because we are going to see it from here on out. The good thing about opposing defenses running so many stunts up front is that once we can pick them up, Will AND C Rod can make them pay DEARLY for it.

That's why Eli AND Will are so important for our pre-snap adjustments. Drake was EXCELLENT at it, so hopefully he can tutor Eli to become better. Will has to get much better at it as well.

In Zone blocking actually each guys has reads just like a QB. If one guy does not read a defense correctly then you can have issues. We got used to Jackson calling out all 5 guys reads, we got used to Fortner with 3 other guys that could also read multiple positions and help out. Flax / Burton and Horsey are having issues with reads. Levis is causing some of that as well. He helps with reads. Backs are making mistakes, WR are missing blocks. Heck our TE position is solid blocking unit on 98% of the plays. Plus we are not running what we will be when we are in SEC play and not running base wide zone runs and such. Just like our DC is making adjustments at half our OC (probably being directed to keep it vanilla) until we get to Ole Miss. That is when we should see more of a scripted offense and adjusted plays.

Was Florida plain vinilla?

More proof the OL is playing much better than people think
I don't know how Wohlbaugh can make this kind of list....he literally played 1 series when Flax got hurt and then it was Flax all the way until last meaningless drive of game.

So are we actually trying to argue the Oline wasn't all that bad based upon black box stat when a FCS team stuffed our running game and Dane Key, Tayvion Robinson nor any DL front guys make a list when the D posted a shut out?

My eyes told all I needed to see.....it was very bad looking

Yeah, I thought that was weird too. That list also said something about rating after something like at least 10 plays. Did DW play 10 plays? But it was weird on UK's end how quickly UK gave up on Wohlabaugh after one game. Still think he can be a good player, let's coach him up.

for the season we are at 2.2 ypc and 11 sacks. Probably tells us as much as anything.

Sorry. Not all issues are on the OL. Last six quarters were actually pretty good.

Much of the time on passing downs we are just losing on numbers and the QB has to account. The sack blamed on flax is a great example. Many people on the game thread blamed him for that but it was a numbers problem. He almost made a great play by passing off one defender and peeling back for another. Levis didn't account for him then worse didn't even see him.

Great cut up showing will missing two opportunities to throw and took a sack. The OL isn't as good as last year by any stretch, but it's playing better than people give it credit for. They need the QB to do his part a little better too.

We are a quarter of the way through the season, with two of the game against cupcakes, and the backups have not played a meaningful snap.

He is doing the same thing as last season. He has not rotated any players yet except for filling in for injured players.
do you want this group better (that has barely played) or develop next year? Doing both is not easy

I agree with Stoops is also to blame. I think he was putting all his eggs in the transfer market. He came up with a goose egg (just like Youngstown yesterday). Thing is if he would have gotten Steen he was a miss as well. Bama is having trouble out of him. T Manning is a great get. No great tackles out there and we got one of the best in high school and he is no where near ready. We just have to take what we have and get them in the best scheme. That scheme is not wide zone blocking. Our guys are used to straight man up blocking more than wide zone. If they do not get by end of next week I think you will see a change when CROD is back. Might be what coach is doing early. Seeing how much they can put on them and then scale it to what they do best. You know throw as much at the board and see what sticks. Grade them out and then by Ole Miss have a plan of attach with the best 6 or 7 guys plus TE we have.

It is pretty darn easy to do when we are playing Miami of Ohio and Youngstown State.

It also is not just for next year. Hopefully there will be no injuries, but if there are, it sure would be nice to put in guys that have played some and learned from that time.

he is trying to get this group to gel... do you want this year "special"? backups got a few snaps 5-11, depending on the player

Well, at least they have a lot of film on how not to do the current blocking scheme.

I recall after Eric Wolford left for Bama that Freddie Maggard was saying he left the O-Line in a bad position. He said we would struggle because most of our young guys had not played in games and the lack experience would catch up with us this year. Looks like he was right. As a side note I don't know why but you can tell Freddie does not like Wolford at all.

Whatever the scheme is, it's up to the players to learn it.
It takes time for an o line to gel... but I wouldnt be shocked if it takes almost the entire year to pull a consistent one together. Until then, we hope for improvement each game.
The O-Line Coach has to get them ready for the scheme, but the OC needs to recognize the strengths of his team and tailor the scheme to what they do well too. Yenser and Scang are still learning what these guys can and can't do. It won't be fixed overnight.

Stoops and Scang comments about the OL shows the concern they have for it. Neither happy at all with it, not putting the blame on anyone else. Scang did say it would be fixed.

Just have to realize that some of these guys are on their third OLine coach in as many years. most of these guys were recruited for a more run oriented offense and are still learning to pass protect. Also, as coach stated on last nights show, some of it isn't on the OLine. some of it is on our young receivers not blocking or missing assignments on run plays as well. That's also understandable, when you have true freshmen lining up out there. I think it's only going to improve as the season goes on barring injury.

It feels like the consensus is the Oline issues are losing 3 good OL from last year and Wolford for not playing in and rotating more guys in last year.

1. Outside of Flax...who else could have held up last year?. Q Wilson, ...nope. Jager..no way you don't RS him, etc.. Did Wolfrod have any options to play last year?
2. I get Horsey to tackle from guard....but he can't run block for squat out there as he's not a tackles. But an adequate pass blocker. I'm not seeing good play from Jager Burton a bit. It feels like that left side will be a mess all year round. We got more tackles for loss than positive run plays to the left side....this is Youngstown St we can't move off the ball.
3. It appears Goodwin is not really even close to playing. Feels like Wohlbaugh is not much closer. Buford has 100% fell off face of earth.

I'll give him halfway point of year to make a legit opinion of Yenser.....but he looks like a deer in headlight at OLine right now. His unit looks confused a ton and not well developed a bit.
I was not in favor of the Yenser hire. I think he got hired because he is a native Kentuckian who has worked with Scan and John Schlarman in the past in other places. But that in itself does not mean Stoops was wrong to hire him. He can do the job, unless Stoops made a mistake that he has not made with his other hires. It is far too early to do what you are doing here. Yenser just got to Lexington. Give him a fair chance before you start this undercurrent of discontent. You complain a lot. We are 3-0 and ranked. A lot is going right.
