whats up w no skal?

He's not one of our best players. That's what's up. Or down in his case. Cal played him early on, and has given him a chance. He hasn't come through for the most part. Cal wants to win. So do I. He's where he belongs. On the bench. That's cold granted, but it is what it is in the Cal era of OAD's. He came in highly heralded. He hasn't come even close to the expectations. Humphries and Wynyard are multi year guys who might get a degree. What Skal wanted were those $'s. The way it's going he's not going to get as many of them as he hoped. If he wants to change course and stick around awhile he may yet be a great player. Right now he's not. I advise staying. Focus on the moment, on college. My 4 at UK were some of the best of my life.

BTW Willis was the leading rebounder in the game, tied with one of Vandy's guys. Skal at 7 feet can't even rebound.

defensively? disagree. strongly

People ragging on Willis defense is laughable these days. Either they are a hater, or they just don't know basketball, because Willis's defense today and actually the last 3 games has been good.

Matchup issue. My guess is that cal didn't think this was a good game for him to keep his confidence up. Jones and Kornet would be a tall order for him. I'm ok with it, hope he gets a lot of clock against Missouri.

Cal is so glad you are ok with it.

Willis is averaging close to double digit rebounds his last three games. Cal is going to stick with that regardless of how a players shots are falling every day of the week. If Skal were t come in and start grabbing 8-9 rebounds per game, his offensive struggles would be overlooked.

Fabcat, I agree completely. Willis has been playing much better defense. He had 2 tremendous hustle plays on defense against Vandy. That recovery block that erased a Vandy basket in transition was awesome. Those type of hustle plays can spark a team, and earn him minutes.

Is he hurt? In trouble? Matchup issue? I agree willis is earning his time but seems like it could be a blow to the progress skal has been making to bench him completely?
Skal needs to quit playing like he's afraid! Maybe if Cal puts his behind on the bench for awhile he'll play when he gets back in instead of just standing around!

It's easy why Skal didn't play. He came in the game and gave away an immediate three to Luke Kornet. Luke Kornet, from Lexington,Ky. Whose dad went to Lexington Catholic.

That, and Willis is eating glass.

Yeah, I agree with others here. Skal's lack of PT today was more a function of how well others were playing than anything related to Skal himself. He's coming along. I wouldn't worry about it. He's gonna have a breakout game here very soon, I have a feeling.
As some had posted,it was a bad match-up for Skal,no one for him to guard in this one.He could have fronted Jones but isn't quick enough nor does he have enough anticipation to see things develop before they do.

He stood there and let their big white white boy shoot a wide open 3. Cal pulled him immediately and barely saw him again

Cal knew he could not score on Jones, doesn't bring enough other things to play over the other 3 bigs.
