Is he hurt? In trouble? Matchup issue? I agree willis is earning his time but seems like it could be a blow to the progress skal has been making to bench him completely?

Skal really played well down at Arky, I thought he would continue that play today. We still have 4 bigs that can contribute, along with our perimeter players. Good outlook from here on out !

Skal's reactions are a half step slow. The game is being played at 45 RPM, and he's playing at 33 RPM. Mentally not ready to play today IMO.

Winning is what's up.

If Cal wants to win with him in, he'll have to play him facing the basket. Since we've mostly seen low post with him except in the Arky game, I wonder if they have enough practice time with Skal in the high post looking at the rim?

I'd hope to see him in that role next time he gets some PT.

Skal at Arky was an anomaly not some
wishful thinking progress. Also not a good matchup as both Vandy bigs play on the perimeter as much as they do inside.

Poy was unguardable today when he got the ball on either block. The floor was spaced and he was able to attack Vandy's bigs one on one and they couldn't check him. Willis in the corner behind the 3 point line makes a team either flare to the corner or double down. That's what a stretch 4 does for you. Even though Derek didn't make but one 3 today the scouting report shows he makes that shot. Vandy decided to flare or shade the corner and Poy destroyed them. Skal playing the stretch 4 does not give us that type of spacing.

Yeah, I agree with others here. Skal's lack of PT today was more a function of how well others were playing than anything related to Skal himself. He's coming along. I wouldn't worry about it. He's gonna have a breakout game here very soon, I have a feeling.

Skal doesn't understand basketball. His basketball IQ is 0 right now. That's not a good thing against a team like Vandy, that generally plays smart, crisp basketball, and keeps you on skates with their offense.

Granted, that's as poor an effort I've seen from a Vandy team in some time, but even still, you can't play Skal against a well coached team. They will abuse him.

He didn't guard the 3 and Cal pulled him. He can't belly up against bulky centers, so if he is going to play away from the basket, he has to be able to guard the perimeter, especially against Vandy, since hitting 3's was probably the only way they beat us, at Rupp.

Skal is a step behind the flow of the game. On defense he doesn't understand how to guard his man on the perimeter or on the block. His spacing is bad for a kid 7' tall. He is weak, doesn't take the correct angles, gets pushed around and has weak hands. This makes it difficult for Cal to play him against either a stretch 4 or a banger 5.

He's getting better, but still has a ways to go, especially on defense and rebounding.

Baby steps. Cal said he didn't play him because of matchups. Didn't want Skal to get beat up and lose confidence.

Matchup issue. My guess is that cal didn't think this was a good game for him to keep his confidence up. Jones and Kornet would be a tall order for him. I'm ok with it, hope he gets a lot of clock against Missouri.

Simple...he didn't play because our whole defensive game plan was to not let the 3 beat us. Skal promptly come in and gave up a 3. Didn't play another meaningful minute. Everything you read above this that does not match what I just said is wrong.

With Willis and Alex playing the way they did today Skal will see limit playing time.

If you have the game on DVR, go back and watch his "foul" at the 10:51 mark in the 1st half. Should have been a turnover, they called a foul for literally nothing, he makes zero contact.
