What's the infatuation Diallo?

There is no way Johnson can live up to the hype some people on this board are giving him. I'm sure he's a fine college player but there is a reason he's looking to stay in college a 4th year and Diallo is doing NBA workouts.

By the same token, can Diallo live up to the hype some people are giving him. Diallo may prove to be a fine college player also, but if he is, then he will be gone by this time next year.

Don't get me wrong, if Diallo comes back, great but we should not paint him as a be all, end all.

Can Johnson will likely never sniff the NBA, Hamidou Diallo is a 1st round pick right now. That's part of the difference, I don't have the time or energy to explain the rest.

Don't get me wrong, if Diallo comes back, great but we should not paint him as a be all, end all.

Maybe not but he has shown elite level athleticism and that means he'll likely do several things that 99% of the rest of college basketball cannot. Maybe it won't translate in his one year, but there is a very good chance he defends, finishes, and blocks better than most.

The talk of Johnson being a nice off the bench piece is warranted IMO but some people are acting like he's a 6'8 D. Lamb that's going to average 25 a game and shoot 50% from outside. I mean he wasn't a superstar on a horrible Pitt team, he isn't going to show up and outplay guys that are 13 months away from being lottery picks.

Diallo is a freak athlete. You've got to take him over Cam.

That's not saying players like Cam can't be as valuable. They can. We've seen this story too many times to count. This is college basketball.

But you've got to take Diallo. Cam would have been a great backup and rotation guy and hey, still might be. If not someone is going to have to handle themselves from the outside. We've got no Doron Lamb.

Hey didn't mean to get all crazy on your post.......Ive probably watch maybe 30 youtube video of him......he's definitely a show time player. Cam Johnson is a fine player. But this guy can shut people down on defense. Like Brisco he will have to work on his 3 pt shot. In combine only shot like 17 percent from 3. But he'll get better. million reasons to leave but 3 to 5 million to come back and be in the top 10 next year.

That fact has nothing to do with who would be better for UK next year. NBA looks at potential when drafting, they project farther out than one year.

Between these two guys throw out the NBA nonsense. Who would be better next year. I tend to like Johnson for the shooting and experience, and the fact that we have other athletes. But I don't think the gap is that large either way.

True but there are other skills that are important. Guys that can put the ball on the floor and get you baskets when everything breaks down are wonderful too. You think Fox wasn't important? Wayne Turner? John Wall?

For this particular squad it seems we have shooters (Green, Alexander, Baker, Knox, Washington I hear is a stretch type forward as well) maybe no one really strong at taking it to the rack except Vanderbilt.

There have been plenty (probably most) years that I'd agree but the composition of this squad actually looks more shooter heavy than we've had in years like maybe since Pitino. Unproven of course but it looks like shooting won't be lacking.

Where is the confidence of Diallo when he refuses to show the world his basketball talent or lack thereof. I mean he really hasn't shown anyone much since midway his senior year in HS and what I've read it wasn't that impressive.
As i mentioned, if he comes back, hope he plays great but for my money I would rathwer have Johnson. JMO

He can jump high. Some may prefer players that can jump high and get a spectacular dunk or two every game. Others prefer a player that can shoot three pointers at a high percentage.
