What will it take for Pope to be coach of the year?

Even though he probably will not win it ,UK fans should acknowledge he has had the most remarkable 1st season of ANY previous UK coach. To have ZERO players on your roster in early June to have the kind of results he has had this season is unprecedented and UNDER appreciated IMO

You guys aren't giving Scheyer enough credit.

He has found a way to will his team to an incredible season with only having the #1 17 year old in the nation and a bunch of 5 star players with minimal injuries in a terrible ACC!!!!!!

Pope should still be in the running and probably would have won it if the injuries hadn't hit this team so hard. Pope starting with a complete rebuild with no roster should be considered in the voting.

Missouri, Florida and the Louisville coaches all have a strong case for it.

He got it from me when he beat Duke. To do what he did and keep us relevant and on the big stage and even succeeding is beyond amazing. There was no rebuild. Just a reload. And an upgrade at the helm. COY lock from me.

I agree with what you say but would say that most all UK fans really do appreciate the fantastic job Pope has done. I know I do for sure. If you mean media might not appreciate the full aspect of what he's accomplished I might believe that more.

I couldn't care less about coach of the year and im sure Coach Pope doesnt either. It's about wins and losses and what we do in the post season. Injuries obviously limit expectations there.

Beat bama on the road then take out auburn at home will definitely put his name in there regarding the national media.
I just hope we come out and play hard and do the little things to win vs careless turnovers and let them rebound until they make it.

Win the SECT?
Some outlets award that based on regular season and some wait until after the postseason. Maybe if we won out he’d have a shot for the regular season awards, but that ship has probably sailed. Postseason-included COTY would certainly be possible, but it probably requires a final four.

Win the remaining games and win the SEC Tournament at least elite 8. Pearl, Scheyer, Golden and maybe even Kelsey are ahead of him. The first 3 are well ahead of him, Pearl in particular.

I highly disagree. Win the SECT and make the S16? That would do it.
Coach Pope has zero chance to win COY. There are several coaches who have obtained higher success and actually he would not be in the top ten for national COY. Only in the eyes of our faithful fans is he COY. I don't mean this as disrespect for Pope because he has done a great job and I am thrilled he is our coach. He is not at this point even in the consideration for COY in SEC or National. In the SEC 1. Pearl, 2. Golden, 3. Gates 4. Williams/Pope

Let's be honest, Pope has exceed our expectations but when voters vote, he may not even be on their radar.

I think that ship has sailed
Same. Although injuries play a huge factor in it, which isn't Pope's fault at all, the losses to some bad teams probably hurt Pope's chances. Now, if he goes and wins a championship that should change things, but they always decide the winner long before we know which teams will actually advance in the tournament.

Has anyone ever won Coach of the Year with a .500 record in conference?

Pope has done an good job this year, and I love the potential moving forward, but come on.
Yeah, he's done a good job. Failing to win the award for best coach in the conference is not an insult. I have issues with the team that probably finishes 6th in the conference winning the award for best coach. And while building a team from the portal isn't optimum, it's not a Herculean task either.

The answer is Pearl and for good reason. This is the strongest the conference has ever been. Ever ever ever. And Auburn is running through it like no team since 2015.
