What were the greatest upsets in UK history (both giving and receiving)?

Biggest win , beating Duke in Elite 8 in 98. Loss without question losing to MTSU in first round of tourney, especially when the next game would have been U ofL for the first time in about 30 years.

Hate to bring this one up but how big an upset was Arizona over uk in 1997? I know without Anderson not as big a one but they had 9 losses.

Special note: Contrary to popular belief, the 1966 title game was not an upset...both UK and TexWes had only one late season loss, and they went into the tournament ranked first and second in the AP poll respectively. Wanna make 1966 TexWes civil rights heroes? Fine. Then don't do them a disservice by wrongfully making what they did seem like some lucky fluke :p

Anyway, back to our regularly scheduled program, what would you guys consider the most notable upsets in UK history...both on the good side (where we did the upsetting) and the bad side (where we were upset). I'll start you off with one of each:

Okay, so it was a #5 over a #1 match up and we only had four losses to Clown U's zero losses so it's not like we didn't have a semi-reasonable shot. But still, not only was it the first of two times (we're the only school to do this more than once) that we crashed an undefeated team's party, but apparently ringmaster Bobby Knight was indeed so shocked/upset that he would not shake Joe B Hall's hand after the game and for many years afterward insisted that his 1975 squad should've run the table also. Yes, it sucked balls we didn't finish the undefeated job in 2015...but shouldn't we take great pride in the fact that we are the only team to twice beat an undefeated team in the NCAA tournament?

A #1 ranked team upset on their home court by an unranked team is plenty bad enough. But our fans reacted to this one like they were just told there was no Santa Claus, or perhaps on the ultra rare occasions that the Harlem Globetrotters actually lose a game. So what made this upset so uniquely heartbreaking? It just so happened that for the past twelve years we had a grand total of zero losses on our home court. A 129 game home winning streak that had started on January 4, 1943 (Ohio State beat us at home two days prior) to be exact. Only two other men's D1 schools even made it to 90+; St. Bonaventure (99, 1948-61) and UCLA (98, 1970-76).
1975 upset of Indiana is my number 1.

I guess their coach at the time learned from the best!
He kind of didn't
Pitino waited for everyone to leave and did his 16 seconds of business on the pool table legally. He just cheated on his wife.
Walter on the other hand broke the law by sexually assaulting an Evansville Student. He hot fired for that.

For me, the most humiliating loss in U.K. basketball history -- but I've only been watching since 1954 -- was the first-round loss to Robert Morris in the 2013 NIT.
This game doesn’t bother me at all. If you are in the NIT you already suck. Not to mention that was supposed to be a home game but we had to play at RM because of scheduling issues at Rupp.

Now, the Gardner Webb or Evansville game…that’s a different story.

I remember in one other year we were in the NLT and we did host at Memorial Coliseum...I gotta give the fans there credit, they at least TRIED to be a good sport about the whole NLT thing.

Lately kentucky upset? I guess it was an upset when they got beat by Kansas State and had Kentucky won that game they would have got to play louhhyola-chicago to go to the final four. so yeah that was probably the worst upset in the last five years . before that it was upset against Wisconsin

An upset by Kentucky was probably when we went to Kansas and beat Kansas at home at their place and beat the shit out of them. Before that it's hard to remember cuz normally we don't upset people because we're too highly-ranked of course

I guess we now have a new contender; our loss to St. Peter is the worst in terms of blowing it as a two seed in the first round. :( Though that of course is since the NCAA Tournament's modern era (1985; first 64 team field)...and 2004's loss to UAB is our all time worst second round upset of the Big Dance's modern era (can't do worse than a 1 blowing it to a 8/9 seed). :(

But seriously (as I already mentioned in the OP) losing at home for the first time in 12 and a half years? No one could ever come close to that kind of shocker :( And that one in the pre-Rupp(?) era where we lost to a HIGH SCHOOL team AND for whatever reason counts as a "for real" game. Again, no way you could possibly do worse than that...not even losing to a D3 or NAIA school (I doubt it would "count" though in terms of being a real and not exhibition game) :(
