What turned you against Pitino ?

I started getting bad feelings about Pitino when he started flirting with the NBA every year. Although he denied he was leaving until the very last, he finally left and I felt relief with a little anger mixed in.
But my feelings turned really hard against him when he bailed on the Celtics and went to UL. That is a sin I can not forgive.

I even bought a celtics sweatshirt and actually followed them for a while. Says a lot for me since I'm not into the NBA really at all.
Going to ul was the downfall.
Taking the job at UL and assuming UK fans would root for him and them. Bad assumption, Ricky.
Well, he did so to his own detriment. Very short sighted not to anticipate the backlash and what that would do to his apparently fragile ego. He either thought he could win everyone over, didn't care or didn't even consider it. The latter of which is pretty remote in my opinion and from the stories I've heard about him sounding people out.
Carmichael is a name that rings a bell in that regard. A former UK booster that he was buddies with that has turned coat also?
When he took the UofL job; I was done with him.

This is definitely wrong... I can remember many statements (not verbatim) by him referencing Kentucky and also BBN after accepting the UL.
OP is a troll. He was trying to get an argument comparing Cal with HD, to Pitino and DA.
OBTW, IMO rick did not play DA because of rick's ego. He thought he would win. And the praise would be off the charts (winning without DA)

No way was comparing Cal to Pitino. Anderson was cleared to play and wanted to play Pitino had plans to leave and wanted to rebuild the Celtics with him falling to his second pick.
I was on the side that says don't play HD because it would mess with team chemistry. Someone posts something you don't like they are called troll. Guess we are all trolls to you "perfect poster" or I'll just call you PP for short.

I'm sure he did and has made numerous references to Ky after taking the job. I'm saying Ky fans were not a consideration when taking a job. He did what was best for him and his family. It wasn't a slight. If ul called me today offering me a ton of money to work with the ul Football team doing what I currently do in my new profession I'd take it. It would have nothing to do with UK, its fans,etc.... Admittedly, I'd say my decision would be based solely on selfish motives. There would be nothing wrong with doing so.
In my 58 years, I've concluded that anything that is not pro-Ky bball in the eyes of many Ky bball fans is against Ky bball. No truth in it. It's paranoia. Not everything that happens in the college bball world has to do with Ky bball. Petino did nothing wrong by taking the ul job. Though I don't personally like it, it was not wrong.
I'll admit it, I was very sad when he left us for the NBA but I still liked the guy. I liked him when he was coaching the Celtics, but ............ then he quickly became a friggin traitor/turncoat filthy, nasty, wretched and disgusting dirty bird!!

I pulled for him in Boston. Even though I kind of knew he was a schmuck behind the scenes. When he took the U of L job, I thought I'd still pull for him if he ended the series. But his prickiness wouldn't allow that. He had to show UK and its fans what they were missing. What totally sealed it for me was his reaction when Siva hit that game-tying three in the Final Four. At that point I was like "we simply CANNOT lose to this prick." It only got worse from there. I can't believe anyone thinks he didn't know about the strippers. I really can't.
Its apples and oranges; you are a private citizen as far as I know. You weren't a caretaker of the most revered and beloved college basketball program in the world. I know that doesn't mean much to you as a Hooker fan, but it means a great deal to most of us.
He also wasn't hurting for money or opportunities so spare me the 'best for his family argument'. How was it best to piss off and then piss on (constant comments, flipping us off) the fans that used to hold you in such high regard thereby creating this tension. I'd venture to guess his life path would have been much different had he not joined the dirty birds.
When he took the UL job. I certainly believe he felt a large portion of our fan base would "convert" to UL simply because of him.
As a few others have said, I too appreciate what he did for our program, to say otherwise is asinine. He did in fact bring us back to the top of the mountain, and for that I am glad.

The minute he announced he was going to UL. Lot's of things he has done since then, that have added fuel to the fire, but that was where it started.
When he secretly met with Larry Ivy in Destin Florida in 1999 and offered to buy out Tubby's contract That was the last straw for me
