With it being chili weather I thought I would get y’all’s take on this. I was raised eating peanut butter sandwiches with my chili. My wife thinks this is lunacy and says cornbread or grilled cheese goes with chili. I’m not a big corn bread fan and for me grilled cheese has always gone with tomato soup. Most people I’ve asked have never heard of peanut butter sandwiches with chili but a few have. What do y’all say?

All the necks I work with eat peanut butter sandwiches with their chili. Never heard of that till working with them. Grilled cheese or nothing. And no chicken.

PB isn't a Hoosier thing. That's what they served with chili when I was in elementary school in Owensboro. They actually go well together.

Now that I'm an adult, however, the correct answer is cornbread or grilled cheese.

Another question...noodles in chili or no? I emphatically vote no.

When I grew up my mom always put macaroni noodles in her chili. I now realize how insane that is. Crackers and shredded cheese are fine though.

MIL always made peanut butter sandwiches with chili. Wife like pimento cheese. I go straight chili. Wife also puts macaroni in hers.

Pimento cheese
Peanut butter
Grilled cheese

Are all accepatble and great with chili. Just not noodles in the chili

Absolutely no noodles in chili. I haven’t tried pairing a pimento cheese sandwich with it. That might not be to bad. PB has just been engrained in me. Nothing is better on a cold day than bowl of chili and a nice fat PB sandwich. I also NEVER put any type of cracker in my chili, hate them.

We were always given PB sandwiches (cut with syrup) with chili in school and I grew up in Southern Kentucky. I go back and forth between PB and grilled cheese depending on my mood, both are excellent dipped in chili.

Peanut Butter for the win.

And there is no such thing as chili with pasta of any kind - that would be goulash...

PB sammich and chili from my grade school cafeteria ( St.Denis for those in Louisville) was awesome. Love it still today..See a lot claim grilled cheese or cornbread, we always have those sammiches with bean soup....

PB or cornbread for me. I'm intrigued by this GC with chili on top, may give that a try soon.

Agreed. My wife tried to put macaroni in the crock pot 45 minutes we eat. I nipped that in the bud with quickness.

Tuna is the only wrong answer so far.

Noodles are alright, but it's better without.

Bit of sour cream on top of the chili adds a nice twist too.

I'm not going to say that macaroni belongs in chili but using it gives me more chili leftovers so I allow it.

A few macaroni noodles, chili, american cheese, about half a sleeve of Ritz, scoop of sour cream.

Let's see:
  • Grilled cheese goes with tomato soup, so that's out.
  • PBJ's shouldn't be eaten after you hit puberty
  • Hot dogs should merely have chili on them
  • Tuna fish? Are you f'ing kidding me?
  • Reuben's are too filling
  • Pastrami on rye is just the kosher of the above, and kosher people aren't eating chili properly cause they ain't putting cheese on it, so this is a non-starter
  • Hamburger is already included in the chili, so that's pointless
  • Turkey has no taste and should only be eaten as part of a club, and club's are too filling
  • Salami and bologna is for the poors, and they can't afford both chili and those putrid meats in one meal and still have money left over for Mt Dew
  • Ham, while delicious, is just not a fit
So I'm going with a veggie sandwich on a toasted French roll. It's clearly the right decision.

Wait, so you spread peanut butter on a saltine and dip in chili?

K?
