I know many of you are hoping that the rollout of the add-ons is eventually more to your liking and I'm relaying that but in the meantime did want to post a snapshot of what Mizzou fans have said about Kentucky going into this weekend's game.
***********
We caught them at the right time last season. I live in Lexington, and the entire offseason the players and coaches talked about this game almost exclusively. They have definitely had it circled for a while.
***********
Games like this are the reason we are fans. We will get their best shot on Saturday and see how we measure up. A huge test for the program and Drinkwitz.
***********
UK board is pretty confident of 10-14 pt win, would love to see a butt whooping after last year.
***********
That’s probably what they thought last year before we beat them in an empty stadium. ^
***********
I know most non CFB nuts don't know CMU. But that's a damn good team. They could win the MAC. I think it was a great first game opponent. Their play pointed out flaws in our team. I'd much rather that happen against them, where we can still win, versus Kentucky. I'm hopeful they will have a good week of practice and play better at UK on Saturday night.
On the other hand, UK had a glorified scrimmage. ULM is one of the bottom five programs in the country. I doubt they learned much from that game.
***********
This is the kind of game that I love about the SEC. It’s not always all about Bama vs Georgia and all that. Important game for both programs and the stakes are plenty high.
***********
I know it gets said all the time, but Vegas is just trying to get the same number of people to bet for Mizzou as KY. It has nothing to do with who they have more faith in.
***********
Baz was good but we need better when our OL cannot consistently execute run blocking against a G5 team. Can the OL pass block against SEC level Ds? Can our OL make vast improvements soon...like this coming Saturday??? Can Baz and our receivers take-the-top-off of a D when needed? Can Baz check-down quickly and effectively? Team sport. We're gonna find out.
Levis benefited from inferior competition but that benefitted his confidence. Baz should have but CMU was pretty good competition and they deserve credit.
***********
Very interested to see what Levis can do against a defense that 1) won’t give him 20 seconds in the pocket and 2) won’t just let WRs run past them every play for a deep ball
After our showing on D yesterday, think I’m still more worried about us stopping UK from running
***********
It looks like they are now throwing the long bomb, we got to get a pass rush
***********
Get a pass rush...is 9 sacks a pass rush or no? ^
***********
I will say UL Monroe did miss a lot of tackles and I think Central Michigan is better than UL Monroe
***********
Their new O-coordinator comes from the Rams. I'd expect a lot of runs that set up play action passing.
***********
ULM is one of the worst D1 schools in the country. At least they were last year.
***********
ULM has lost their last 12 games and is currently 127th (out of 130) on Massey Composite, which is below kansas and Vanderbilt. Not sure the game yesterday teaches us much about Kentucky.
***********
It does tell us they now can pass deep, before then ran the ball as ball control, and the job of the QB was not to mess things up, now the QB has to set in the pocket and throw, including deep
***********
I'm glad that we didn't blow them away. I hope the oline and front seven of the d are getting all the encouragement they need for next week.
***********
I watched the Kentucky replay and I was not impressed that much, they played a very inferior team.
***********
It does tell us they now can pass deep, before then ran the ball as ball control, and the job of the QB was not to mess things up, now the QB has to set in the pocket and throw, including deep
***********
Our back end might just might be a little better than ULM. I am more worried about our front 7 controlling their runs.
***********
They have two explosive receivers, Ali & Robinson. They'll score points but I think we can force some turnovers. Their offense is still figuring things out a bit which a few new pieces added
***********
Right. I'm impressed with them opening up the offense, but not overly impressed with the offense itself yet. We've saw what happens when the Rams can't run the ball, or WRs can't get separation. It can get clunky quickly.
***********
I think it plays in our favor that we had a pretty good “tune up” game while UK played a team that was so bad that had not even held a lead in their past 12 games prior to yesterday
***********
The key though was Kentucky did what they were expected to do against a team like that when scouting them. There is still a lot that can be gained from watching that.
***********
I think we are going to have a hard time stopping their run game. Then we will overload on run and will be at high risk of being burned through the air.
I think we lose by 2 TD’s. And I thought this before yesterday’s games. Everything I saw yesterday just confirmed it.
***********
We really roughed up the CMU QB the second half we have to start early on Kentucky's QB
***********
Can’t feel great about the matchup with Kentucky. They have great lines, and one of the SEC’s best RBs. Exactly what we struggled with yesterday.
***********
I miss our 2 Dlinemen that went to Arkansas. Looks like a bigger loss than expected
***********
I’m less worried about them passing than I am their front 7 on defense. OL is gonna have to come together quick for the offense to keep up with them
***********
I watched a lot of that game. Don’t care about the opponent. Even if it was a glorified scrimmage, the QB showed he can wing it, and he’s got a couple of good receivers to throw to. And the execution was damn good. Plus, I bet they were pretty vanilla with the playcalling.
Now after giving up 8.4 yards a rush (when you take out the sacks), Mizzou goes against a better offensive line and a better running back. Defense has to show vast improvement. Gonna be a tall task.
***********
He may have made quick decisions play to play, but on every longer throw he had all day and had at least 10 feet of clearance to step into and make those throws.
I’m sure that their OL is good, but I’m also sure that the defense that they faced yesterday was horrendous.
***********
It will be fine as long as the D backs don't give a 10 yard cushion when we bring pressure like they did in the past. I think our talent level on the back end is so much better that we can gamble a lot. We may take a hit now and again but I am betting we win more of those battles than we lose.
***********
We can argue all day about what they did against a horrible opponent, but I’d be more concerned about a defense that gave up 475 yards (even with almost 70 yards in sacks), 301 yards passing and 8.4 yards per rush and was on the field for 86 snaps. And I’d be willing to bet the defense had to roll out some blitz packages it had no intention of using just to slow CM. Can’t count on getting anywhere close to nine sacks against this o-line. Plus, the QB showed he can hit the slant pass.
As they say in horse racing, this will be a major step up in class. Defense is gonna have to show major improvement. If not, it’s gonna be a long night.
***********
I only watched the highlights above but not sure I saw any plays in the video above where his first read wasn’t wide open
***********
For both teams. It’s definitely a significantly larger step up in competition for UK than it is for Mizzou. Mizzou had I think 6 new starters on defense, with a new DC and system, and all new position coaches. And let’s face it, most of the new starters weren’t HS All-Americans to begin with.
It might take a day or two. Take a deep breath.
***********
All I learned from that was ULM has a terrible secondary/defense.
Also appears Kentucky's offense was feast/famine and relied on deep balls.
Whole thing actually reminded me of watching Mizzou play shit teams under Heupel, we thought we'd be great and then we played real teams.
***********
For context, SP+, which has a history as a reasonable accurate assessment would have had CMU as a roughly 15 favorite on a neutral field against UL Monroe going into week one...so, yes I think fair to Say you are right on track.
***********
This game should be FUN as hell to watch.
***********
Going 18 of 26 (69 percent) doesn’t exactly scream feast or famine. His first pass was intercepted. Went right through the receiver’s hand. There were a couple more drops. Yes, it was against a horrible defense, but that doesn’t take away from the fact the kid had an outstanding game and executed well, esp for his first start with a new coordinator. If a Mizzou QB did that, fans would be downright giddy.
***********
UK's 1H Possessions:
Interception
33 yard TD Pass
14 Play Drive TD
Fumble
62 pass sets up TD
Punt
So in the 1H against a terrible team they had 1 sustained drive that didn't rely on a long pass.
Mizzou fans were giddy every year when Lock did this against shit teams, then the offense disappeared against P5 teams, so I don't think your point plays here.
