Ones I can think of:

Petticoat Junction
Maude
Jeffersons
The Ropers
Facts of Life
Laverne and Shirley
Frazier
Young Sheldon

I may go with Jeffersons, then Young Sheldon and Frazier.

Not a spin off per say, but Bates Motel and Friday Night Lights where pretty damn good.

How about a spinoff from a spin off ? Gomer Pyle USMC from the Andy Griffith show which came from The Dave Thomas Show.

Traditional spin offs not mentioned :
Melrose Place (Beverly Hills 90210)
Knots Landing (Dallas)

Andy Griffith is the only answer. Nothing is close. Danny Thomas Show.

I may not know which was best but I can definitively say that the worst by far was After MASH.

Here's a good resource for list of spinoffs https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_television_spin-offs

This is merely from the ones I've seen to completion or at least enough of to have an opinion on it
  • Facts of Life - spinoff of Diff'rent Strokes
  • Frasier - spinoff of Cheers
  • Better Call Saul - spinoff of Breaking Bad
  • Family Matters - spinoff of Perfect Strangers
  • The Colbert Report - spinoff of the Daily Show
  • The Andy Griffith Show - spinoff of the Danny Thomas Show
  • The King of Queens - spinoff of Everybody Loves Raymind
  • Happy Days - spinoff of Love, American Style, which I never knew
  • Schooled - short-lived The Goldbergs spinoff
  • American REstoration - spinoff of Pawn Stars
  • Fear the Walking Dead - spinoff of, you guessed it, the Walking Dead

And one many don't realize is actually a spinoff of the Tracey Ullman Show...
The Simpsons

From that list, Frazier and Andy Griffith Show are easily the best.

I thought I was too cool for The Big Bang Theory during its run, but it really was good and I watch reruns at least a couple times a week. That being said, Young Sheldon is awful.

The King of Queens, very good catch.

The answer is frasier hands down. It was so good he tried to do a reboot.

If Andy Griffith was a spin-off it’s right there with frasier just different generations. I’m getting sentimental thinking of afternoons with my grandma watching all those shows over and over.

Better Call Saul would be the #1 pick from my list. It’s rare a spin-off is ever even good, but BCS might just have even been better than Breaking Bad. And Breaking Bad is one of the best ever.

Agreed! For me, Breaking Bad is the best series I’ve ever seen. And Better Call Saul is number 2. Actually, more like 1a. Both were phenomenal. Acting, writing, storylines….

Breaking Bad is probably my # 2, right behind the Sopranos. Then Better Call Saul. JMO.

As to the topic of the thread, Andy Griffith is the correct answer....IMO.

Wasn't Mork and Mindy a spinoff of Happy Days?

I'm with a lot of other opinion, Better Call Saul for sure.

On a separate note...all of this brain racking got me thinking about '80's TV shows. One show that I remember watching as a kid and thinking it was hilarious was "Too close for comfort" with Ted Knight. I had no business watching it but that was life as a kid in the '80's....hell, Jaws was rated PG 😂

Also, an unmentioned spinoff...."Three's a crowd" and "The Ropers" were both entertaining.

Happy Days was a spin-off of sorts. From a show called Love American Style”. The skit was “Love and the Happy zDays”. If you wanna call it a spin-off ..it’s probably the best ever

Hard to imagine something topping Better Call Saul. Not only was it just as good as an already great show in Breaking Bad, but some people actually feel it was better.

Wasn't CSI Miami considered a spin off of CSI? If so that would be in my top 5. I do agree that if "prequals" are considered spin offs then 1883 and 1923 are both great spin offs of Yellowstone and in my opinion better than the original.

The Muppet Show - Spin off of Saturday Night Live (Season 1)

The Muppets had existed since the 50s.

After the novelty of SNL wore off, it was obvious that Henson (and Juhl and Oz) were better and funnier in every way than SNL. I go back and forth sometimes on the question of whether or not The Muppet Show was the greatest show on TV ever. Genuine sweetness -- not sentimentality -- is about the rarest the quality in art.

The season had premiered in October 1975; by the following spring, Henson was headed to less craggy pastures. UK network ATV had offered him a deal for his own program—which would become The Muppet Show—and Michaels was only too happy to free him from his contract at NBC.
