What if Dupree had remained at TE at UK. The kid seems to be a proto type TE physically. He has the size, speed and jumping ability to have been a great one. Good luck with LBs and Safeties trying to cover him. His hands and ability to catch the football consistently would seem to be the only thing that would have kept him for becoming a great TE. Does anyone know what type hands he has? Did UK coaches move a potential All American TE to defense for the good of the team?

With our passing game? He would have had 3 or 4 catches all year this past year. Also TEs make a lot less money on average than stud pass rushers do. Besides he is a great athlete which means he can play anywhere but we don't know what his ball skills would have been like. The staff put him in the right spot. I don't see anyway that he could have contributed more as a TE than he did as our best defensive player for 4 years.

He played TE and DE in high school...so UK coaches didn't move him, they just picked defense for him.

All SEC - 2nd in all time sacks at UK - top 5 in total sacks in the last ten years for SEC players...

Dupree was an all SEC defensive end, and the best player on our football team. He will soon be drafted by an NFL team as a defensive end or outside linebacker, probably in the top half of the 1st round. This sure seems like a peculiar time to discuss what his career might have been like at a less important position.

You people are way too serious and touchy. I was just speculating if jumbo athlete Dupree could have been a successful or even great TE. He was put at DE because at the time DE might have been the neediest position on the UK football team. I am not questioning the coaches decision to put him on defense. They must make decisions that they think are best for the team. This post is pure speculation on just how good of a TE that Dupree could have been if circumstances had been different. I commend Dupree for making the switch to DE without complaint.

The kid has good size for the position, He is quick at 4.57 40, and jumps like a kangaroo. IMO he could have been a great TE if he has the hands for it. Heck the kid has the quickness to have been a WR. Just an outstanding all around athlete.

IMO the TE would have been used a lot more the past several years at UK if they had just had a decent one. To the guy who was poo pahing TEs ask pro coaches if they would like to have a great TE and if they would use him.

Duprees development really makes me appreciate the old staffs recruiting strategy. Just sign a bunch of TEs and stick them wherever once they get here, worked out great for Bud.

So what difference does any if this make now? Not being touchy, just responding to what you posted.

It's the off season, it's something to talk about.

No idea what his ball skills are like, but I think he would succeed at any position he's physically able to play.

That's the non up tight spirit. You are entirely right. Just something to talk and speculate about in the off season. The kid is a very athletic Jumbo Athlete that likely would have succeeded at either DE, LB, or TE or maybe even WR. I would sure like to have a dozen or so like him to spread throughout the team.

Could be a JJ Watt TYPE [/I] player might not reach JJ Watt type stats or workloade but he has the athleticism

I had always wondered what he would have done at UK as a TE, with his height and a 39" veretical coming out of high school. I knew he would get his hands on some balls either way though. Amazing that he could gain about 40# and also INCREASE his vertical by 3".

I always thought that he might have been a big factor in that other Jon guy (I forget names when they don't commit to UK, history) going to a BIG school to disappear, he was probably so used to the liars in Louisville that he didn't believe the UK coaches saying Bud was going to play on D.

Like I said, I don't remember names of players that bail out on UK.

Wasn't there some RB that a lot of fans thought was coming here that went to some other program, forget the name though.
