What happened to the kicker from Boyle Co.??? Wasn’t he supposed to be the #1 kicker coming out of HS??

I wonder the same thing....with Poore doing all the kicking (and he was putting us some knuckle balls today)....I would have hoped Jackson Smith is ready
I never trust kicker rankings. Chance Poore was the #1 kicker out of HS too.
We’re screwed. Gonna cost us some covers because Stoops refuses to fix these issues. You’d think a conservative defensive meathead would have solid special teams. Already getting annoyed.
Kickers are hard to evaluate because they can use the tee in high school and have to kick off the ground in college. I hear it makes a lot of difference.

The ball was coming off his foot like a dead duck....it's not like he was kicking and the wind blowing it to the side....he was kicking low worm burners, etc.. and wind had zilch to do with it.
Maybe bc the coaches feel he’s not good enough right now? Just a hunch since they see him in practice every day.

Because he was a true freshman last year behind Mark Ruffalo who was a super senior. He wasn't going to unseat him. Chance Poore was a senior doing Kickoffs and is now a super senior himself. He deserves first crack at being the FG kicker, since that's where he started when he first got here before a case of the yips caused him to lose the job. Hopefully he's matured beyond that, but their experience with Poore might be why they hesitate to throw a true freshman into the fire like that. Just because you didn't see him yesterday doesn't mean he's not in the mix at one of the kicking positions.
I would think that kicking into a high wind you would want to keep the kick low, maybe not worm burners, but low.
Poore couldn't unseat a guy who was a coin toss for even chip shots. Says it all. No offense to him, but that can't be our best option
Maybe you are right....but they were kicking before the scrimmage 10 kicks less than 30 yards....he missed like 3 of them and it was not a high kick the wind got hold of....there were like wobblers that didn't get halfway up the goal post.
And given Chance Poore was not great 2 years ago when he lost his job to Ruffalo...and then never beat him out for 2 years....the thought we're going back to Chance and Jackson Smith is on scholly.....it just feels not great going into season.
Don't forget the vast majority of Poore's KOs were touchbacks.
UK has at least two PWO kickers, Max DeGraff and Jackson Moore as well as transfer Michael Bernard, coming in. Guess they'll be here this Summer. Let's see what these guys can do before we build the scaffold and hang the coaches.

Well, I had plenty to say about that in the 2023 recruiting thread. but that's neither here nor there. The better option will be kicking at Miami of Ohio next year.
Ruffalo wasn't awful until last year. Whatever happened last year wasn't a reflection of the kicker he was the prior year. I think it was mostly mental. Hoepfully staff shakeups and the focus on special teams will help this year. Poore was never an issue with distance on his kicks, his issue was accuracy, which when he was a Freshman, was mostly mental. He wasn't ready to be put on stage like that in pressure situations. He's been around long enough that I hope he's matured well beyond that by now.

You could not be more wrong. Stoops just hired a new special teams coordinator with NFL coaching experience named Jay Boulware.
It has been reported that he is having trouble kicking without a tee, which is permissible in HS, but not in college on FG/XP.
IMO the transfer will be the starting kicker. Knowing that they needed someone, UK went to the portal. That will be the guy.
Watching Smith and DeGraff head to head in HS a couple of times I thought Smith had the stronger leg but was more of "pull" kicker while DeGraff had great form/accuracy and height on the ball, maybe just needed to get a little stronger. The kid (MD) is a good athlete. Maybe not this year but I can see him being a starter.
This is the first I've heard about Bernard. He's a transfer from Fordham but I could not find any stats on him. So it is unclear to me if he played for them or was just on the roster.

Yeah, like our offensive line had no influence in our kicking game last year. They were pitiful. Some of you need to quit betting on Kentucky games so we don’t have to hear you cry when you don’t cover. Seniors should feel like they are giving the opportunity. The kicking game will be better..
It’s more fun to some to just hang the coaches. If this one gets fixed it will be off to some other position group.
I just asked about Jackson Smith because he was the #1 ranked Placekicker coming out of HS 2 years ago and is ON SCHOLARSHIP. He was not used during the open practice and has NOT even been mentioned by the coaches. WHY??!!!!
Taking it beyond that is puzzling.
Because another placekicker is ahead of him and getting the reps. No mystery to it.
But not ONE WORD on him??????
EVERY player on the team has been talked about in some form or fashion this spring OR before, so why not Jackson????
Not ONE person on this thread, media member, the special teams coach OR Coach Stoops has said ANYTHING about him and all I've asked is WHY???? When Chance Poore was struggling his Freshman year there were NUMEROUS reports about him and his confidence. Why is there NOTHING on Jackson???
Is he even STILL on the team????
