I like the fact that we are improving on the D side of the ball. It looks like we have gotten some real playmakers in the defensive secondary, if they develop. It always helps to have some speed, height, and aggressiveness, along with football instinct back there, and I think we picked up some of that today.

I like the fact that the coaches have not come across as discouraged or disheartened by the decommits (and they probably have been), but they continued to work hard and found us, what appear to be, some pretty good possibilities.

Here's what I don't like...or at least what I wish. I wish we could have gotten at least one really outstanding recruit who has that magnetic personality that screams, "I am a leader, come follow me." Maybe one will emerge from this bunch, but I didn't really see it. These are the ones who make other players play with more desire, more passion, and create excitement. They are like on-the-field coaches.

I also know that offense and defense both start in the trenches. We got a couple big boys, but I'm not sure we got enough talent on OL and DL. Patrick needs time to go through his reads; RBs need holes to run through, and we don't need our secondary having to run up and make tackles all the time 7 & 8 yrds from the LOS.

I like that stoops addressed areas of need and this class will provide depth for the next handful of years and will make practices better. I like that the kids they got seem really excited about UK and the offer sheets for most suggests UK was more competitive in recruiting against the big boys than in years past.

I don't like that lack of star power. Outside of Conrad, Eli Brown, and Marcus Walker...i don't know if there is one other player that other teams will be upset that they didn't recruit harder. I hope I'm wrong and I know at this point it will be about player development. And I don't like that UK struck out on all of the big targets they had a year ago. Not just losing Harris and Marcus Lewis, but thinking back in losing Alex Stump, Justin Hilliard....that hurt. And also Josh Smith when he seemed destined to spurn Vandy. And I wish there was another running back to add in the class...maybe even a juco back. What once seemed to be a strong position depth wise for UK now seems very thin.

I agree with most your points. I think we got some solid offensive linemen. They won't make an immediate impact, but we have enough big uglies that they can redshirt. Would have liked to have seen more help on the DL. Kengera looks like he could be a beast and it is outstanding to see Alvonte Bell make his way back into the fold. We will need some immediate help at defensive end after losing Dupree and Smith. Bell, Ware, Dubose, Tubman, Kengera, Huenigan, Hatcher, and Johnson look to fill that role, but none of them have really stepped up as game changers. We lost one DT to graduation, and Miggins looks to fill that role. Not sure what we got with him, but hopefully he can really step it up. Ohh, and I forgot about Allen... he could be a defensive lineman as well, but he'll need time to learn and develop.

I'm really happy with the fact that we addressed linebackers with Eli Brown and Courtney Love. They have some competition with Flanigan, Frios, Walker, Henderson, Forrest, and Hendrix. A lot of new faces there mixed with some old blood. Looks like the talent is there to do better. Also really excited about tight end. We need immediate help there and Conrad can provide that. Hart will be good, but he will have to sit another year before making an impact. Long will be the other guy that gets snaps there. Should be much improved from last year IMO.

What I don't like are some of the skill positions. With the loss of both Heard and Clemons we're left with Kemp, Williams, and Horton at running back. That should be enough, but I'd like to see us try to redshirt some guys and then only use them if we really have to. Running back was extremely deep last year, but might be pretty light this year. We added King to this mix, but I just don't see him as being enough. He could develop into something very good, but I'd rather see some kids up in the 200-210 pound range in our backfield. We could really use a late signee to help us here.

The wide receivers seem to be all right, but none of them really jump out at me as being stars, which is something I think we've been lacking. Greenwood looks to be the best of the three, and I am glad to have him. I also like the size of our guys, which we lacked last year. However, Jackson (assuming he doesn't play DB) and Gosier are ranked lower than all but one of the wideouts we signed last year.

Defensive backs have their positives and negatives. We missed on the huge player Marcus Lewis and the two four star Dowell brothers. They could have made our defensive backfield exceptional in the future. We did get a lot of bodies though, and it is great they have a lot of size. Walker looks to be the real deal, but I'm not sure any of them are really going to be that corner of the future that we desperately need.

Would have also liked to see us get one more quarterback. Early in the year we seemed to be high on Jarrett Stidham who turned out to be a 5 star guy, and also on the kid from Kentucky (name escapes me). Now we'll have just 3 scholarship quarterbacks on the roster with Smith leaving, so depth could be an issue.

Overall, as I have said, I think it is a pretty solid class. Doesn't have quite the pop of the last two, but there is some quality talent there. A lot of it will have to develop and that is fine, considering a lot of our talent is in the upcoming junior and sophomore classes. A few guys really need to contribute early and they may be key to the success of this class overall.

They're a three star class. Much better than what we had in years past. Good strength, conditioning and coaching can develop these guys to compete with the fours we lost. Probably not much difference in the long haul. We need numbers that are equal in that the third string is no drop off. Can only get better IMO.

Disappointed with Defensive End. It was a position of need for UK. We missed out on some guys that could have helped out in a couple of seasons.

I was originally going to say this, but mainly b/c the status of Tubman, Dubose is still questionable. Then I saw that they brought in Higgins and Bell.....2 juco players that can help out.......and, yes, I know that Higgins is listed as a DT, but I think he could slide over to DE for more run stop ability. I also think Meant could be a guy like this as well. And then there is Daniel who, I think, will be good in the future.

All in all, this class is about what I expected. Before the yr, I predicted that the team would go 5-7 and that not having a winning season would take it's toll on recruiting. Thankfully it wasn't a cripling blow, but it did impact it. I think Stoops will have his first winning season next yr and we will yield the best recruiting class in UK history.

Don't disagree but Daniels has apparently already hit it hard and added 10 lbs from what I've read. Ware and Dubose are RS's

Adding Bell was a great thing coaches are high on him. Hatcher needs to really get on it this year.

I like the fact that these guys want to be here and want to play in the SEC. I remember when getting a top 40 class was cause for celebration. And that's only been 4/5 years ago, haha!

I think we got a few that really help our immediate needs, all of the early enrollees could make a pretty big impact, but MOST of this class will redshirt anyway. Conrad and Long I expect to make an immediate impact, but MOST of this class will redshirt
Hopefully the two JC commits will shore up positions of need this year, Bell was among Joker's most prized recruits ever, hope he steps in and helps us this year.

But the big improvement this year is going to come from our SEVENTEEN redshirts, some of them highly rated, and FOUR of them four stars.

And that is not counting the fact that most of our two deep is returning with another valuable years experience, a lot of them as starters.

No matter how the Debbie Downers try to spin it this is not a bad class. It is a class with 2 ,4 stars and 7, 5.7, 3 stars and IMO several other players for example a 5.6 K Danials that IMO should have been ranked higher. I also believe Alvonte Bell was a 4 star coming out of high school. The class has only 2, 2 stars and they play positions that it is difficult to recruit to a DT and a tall CB.

IMO the coaching staff addressed two of the weaker spots on the team in CB and LB.

Question: How much better would you feel about this team if Hart and Love who IMO are at least four star players were granted their request to play next year?

There well may be some of the proverbial diamonds in the rough on this team. The DE/LB out of New jersey, The RB out of Georgia. and the DT out of Ohio Provist I believe is his name.

I wish that this class was better but I will always wish the classes were better Freddie Maggard even went so far as to say that he thinks this class is better than last years class. I will assume Freddie has better information than me and most all of the posters on this board.

Could have addressed the LB situation head on by offering bonafide Inside Linebacker Landon Knoll instead of assuming that he'll be around or want to come as a preferred walk on.

Who is Landon Knoll? I follow recruiting a lot and have never heard of him. Has UK offered him a preferred Walk on? What other offers does he have? Are any of them from schools at UKs levels. Are you a relative of Landon Knoll or his girl friend?

I think the most disappointing thing is that we lost out on players that were "committed" to UK at one point. I understand that we are going after better caliber players now, but to lose our 4 stars hurt. I also don't like that UK was 13 out of 14 in the SEC rankings (only Vandy lower).

I like that we got a RB that looks like he could be a steal. But I thought we could have added 1 more with our current RB situation. I like the emphasis on DBs because that was a problem area. But losing Lewis last minute hurt.

Overall...I give the initial grade a C+/B- because we added players in position of need, but are they the caliber that we need? We'll see in a few years.

IMO UK can come up with 22 guys that are competitive initially. It's the next 22 - 30 that IMO determine if we can compete in the SEC consistently. We're going to have to Coach up a lot of 3 stars to get there, while the top of the league is doing the same with a lot of 4 stars.

We signed army all american Eli Brown, Jordan Jones was highly thought of, and Courtney Love is a transfer that is likely to be immediately eligible. That's addressing the linebacker situation.

I don't care much for recruiting rankings and will with hold judgment until this class graduates. The almost soap opera/circus feel to the last two weeks kind of bothers me, though I can't put my finger on why. But anyway you spin it, you have to worry a bit that this class is ranked 13th in the conference.

Sad that only 2 of our scholarships went to Kentucky kids. UL signed none. I wish the state was producing more power 5 conference talent. We did get some good preferred walk-ons from in state (Mattingly, Barnett and Simpson to name a few).

Wait until next year, a down year in Kentucky but a BIG up year next year. Two four star OL and two excellent three stars that have to be underrated considering their size and speed from our state already. Baker will also probably come back if we have a decent year.

As UKani posted, we may add a late commit or two, but I won't feel bad about saving a couple of spots for next year, should be a big upgrade over this class. Some really exciting possibilities for OL commits, and if we add a couple that we are supposed to have and in with (to the two excellent ones already commited) that OL will attract a lot of good skill players that will want to play with them.

Sorry, not a relative or a girlfriend, just someone that went to high school with the kid's dad. Landon has several FCS offers and Pref WO interest from Tennessee and Kentucky. He was told by a couple of the UK assistants that they absolutely loved his film and his size and speed. Was told with his frame, he could get up to 240 and still be able to run 4.6 . Was told that he could provide immediate depth and could definitely help the LB corps. He was a first team all state player in a conference with the likes of Ensworth, Montgomery Bell Academy, and Brentwood Academy.

You tell me if you think he can play:

Just for the record, it's Miggins, not Higgins. You've been watching too many Magnum P.I. reruns. lol!

Look at the bright side - that's three more than we usually got pre-Stoops.

I'm fine with everything ex the lack of a big RB, QB, & LOT. We're be thin at all three spots if we lose a QB after the Spring.

Great looking player love his burst of speed.

IMO any player would be foolish to walk on at UT. They have loaded up on high ranked players the past two years. A WO should look at the history of WOs at UK and sign there if his goal is to actually get playing time and a SS later. UK has a history of giving SSs to deserving WOs and will play you if you earn playing time.

Since the player is on the hook for all of the costs of attending, it may simply come down to which opportunity, combined with weighing all football factors, allows the family to afford it. In state tuition is definitely much better than out of state.

You never know. RB is one position where there are tons of great players who can play the position. He may not have the vision Harris has but seems to be fast and elusive enough to get the job done.

Overall, I like the size in the class. Not a great overall class of playmakers, but did address some serious needs. Good class to develop, but need some more game breakers in the 16 class to compliment them with.

Pro-Finally signing DBs with size. I'm tired of seeing UK's tiny DBs getting manhandled by SEC WRs.

Con-That in some cases they had to go pretty far down their lists to find takers.

Are you talking about the Hagnum P.I. reruns?

Good assessment. More than anything, we needed to improve our defense. This class accomplishes that. We will return most of our key offensive players, but we needed more receivers and this class delivered them. The top strength of the class is receivers. Other strengths are defensive backfield, outside linebacker, defensive line, offensive line. Getting Kengera Daniel enrolled for the spring is huge. Remains to be seen how much Miggins and Bell will help in 2015 without practicing in the spring. Although Boom Williams and Mikel Horton will get most of the running back opportunities, the late addition of Sihiem King is important for depth. We didn't sign a middle linebacker but Nebraska transfer Courtney Love fills that need nicely.

It appears that we got a lot of help on the defensive side of the ball.I hope 3 or 4 can come in and play next year.If we are going to make the push to 7 wins we will need that help.

From watching highlights, I am disappointed in our O-line commits. I don't think they compare to Krok or Richardson last year or Drake or Young from next year. Hope I'm wrong. I do like our entire defense.. I though Provitt looked better than Elam on film highlights. If you want to get giddy, look at it. I thought there were two or three reaches at the end, but after about a dozen decommits, overall I believe the staff performed incredibly well under enormous pressure.

After 2 years, I have learned Stoops and his coaches know what they are doing. Usually, offensive linemen need time to develop. Asafo-Adjei has a very high ceiling and will start by 2016. The other 3 will need time but all could be starters at some point. Livingston is a long body who needs a couple years of development, but will be a good player before he leaves. Wolfe and Stenberg are huge guys with potential whose careers depend on learning curves and conditioning. These guys will have to hustle, or else Drake and Young will jump over them.

Stoops said he thought the 6'4" and 310 pound George Asafo-Adjei could play next year and his high school coach said he has had players start for schools like Ohio State and George A-A is the strongest player he has ever had and the hardest worker. I don't see any of the others being a factor before their redshirt sophomore seasons but you never know how offensive linemen will progress. However, I don't think we will need them to play next year since we return almost everybody that played and at least 3 of the 4 redshirts from last year could compete for starting positions.

I like that we filled holes with this class. I like that we will have all those redshirt players come online this year. I also like the fact that we upgraded our coaching on both sides of the ball. That is my honest opinion. Tho. Peace!

I do not think there is any way that it can be spun that this class didn't take a big hit because of late flips. I however think the top half of the class is strong with two, 4 stars, seven 5.7, 3 stars, the two transfers from Nebraska and IMO five to six, 3 stars that are grossly under rated. The down side is that because of the flips that the lower end is weaker than expected.

I like it all. This class will almost all be redshirts and will really help the depth of the roster in the next few years. Added a lot of size and length to the skill positions.

First off. I didn't count on any freshmen to come in and fill our holes for next year. That's what redshirts from last year are for. So defensive end weren't important this year, they were important last year. Dubose and Ware and Hatcher and Johnson have to fill in for graduates.

But the first positive is bringing in Bell. This is a guy Stoops wanted at Florida State. He could come in and make a big difference.

My biggest like is star potential. Three wide receivers who are 6'3". Or even taller. Three corner backs at 6'2" our taller. We might have players who end up better. But those guys above have the potential to be freaks. The kind that would burn us during conference.

Biggest dislike. Quarterback, lack of. We have such a bunching and I'm afraid we could lose one or even two. My solution would be to get a Jalen Whitlow type who does Wildcat and receiving stuff but could be your third string backup.
