Kentucky got its second commitment of the 2020 Class, and the second in nine days with a pledge from Cam'Ron Fletcher on Sunday.
The 6-foot-7 wing out of St. Louis began his official visit on Thursday and like B.J. Boston last weekend, he saw enough to convince him there was need to tour any more campuses.
Fletcher had taken an official visit to Michigan State earlier in the year. Alabama, Missouri, and North Carolina were also on his list of finalists, but none in the group were able to lock down officials.
Fletcher also took an unofficial visit to Lexington back on June 22, the same day he received an offer from the Wildcats. At that time his home state school of Missouri was considered to be the favorite with heavy competition from Michigan State. But as the summer continued the Big Blue took over the top spot so much that it became a when not if scenario about his commitment to the Cats.
Fletcher is rated as a four-star prospect by Rivals and is ranked No. 37 in the 2020 Class. He will bring a ton of athleticism to the college level. His strength is getting to the rim on the offensive end, but perhaps the most attractive part of his package for college coaches is his versatility. He can play multiple positions on both ends. Defensively, he can switch on almost every screen and guard the one through the four.
This makes him a great compliment to Boston because of the versatility. We have spoken how analysts like Corey Evans like Boston's ability to play the one through the three on both ends. This is now two players in the fold who can play multiple positions. Boston can guard three spots, and Fletcher can guard four. Both are 6-foot-7 and lengthy, but Fletcher has more weight on him which could allow him to guard a power forward at times.
He is ranked the ninth best small forward according to Rivals. Fletcher joins Boston who is No. 10 overall and rated as the second best shooting guard.
His commitment also pours gas on John Calipari's recruiting momentum. Not only does he have two commitments, he appears to be in good shape with several other elite class members. Jalen Green is the No. 3 player overall and the top ranked shooting guard, Josh Christopher is the No. 11 prospect and third ranked shooting guard. Isaiah Todd is ranked No. 13 and the second best power forward. Lance Ware is ranked No. 52 and the eighth top power forward, and Clifford Omoruyi is ranked No. 54 and the tenth best center.
Versatility is the theme. Green and Christopher can play and guard the one through the three. Todd is a four who is trying to expand his game out onto the floor. Defensively, he could guard the three through the five. Ware's versatility is wrapped in a similar package.
Cats Illustrated with have more on Fletcher's commitment and what Wildcat fans should look for. Also look for lots of updates this week on recruiting from Jake Weingarten, Travis Graf, and myself.
