Recently stumbled upon this gem. I had been listening to Grand Funk and their cover of this song. Did some digging and found out that Eric Burdon and The Animals were first to record it. Of course like many of the British Invasion bands of the 60s they had “borrowed” the lyrics from an old American song often sung by southern black performers. Thought this was killer, considering this performance is from 1966.

This week's binge is Royal Southern Brotherhood. The band was originally started by signer/guitarist Mike Zito and singer/guitarist Devon Allman (son of Gregg Allman). Also Cyril Neville of The Neville Brothers.
Later, after Mike and Devon left the band, Tyrone Vaughan (son of Jimmie) joined, along with Bart Walker

EVERYBODY had that album. Probably even the Pygmies in Central Africa.

A traipse through Farm Aid concerts. Went to a lot of them 80s - 90s. Newlywed in 1995 Louisville show. Neil Young is my fave, add Crazy Horse and that's it. 1+1 = 5 million. These are in no particular order.
Was fortunate to see Neil at Nassau Coliseum, Long Island NY, back in 82 or 83. This was solo, mainly acoustic.
Show was in the round. This was his Trans tour, where he played maybe 3 songs electronically and then all the hits.

Currently bingeing ZZ Top. I like their mid 70s funky/bluesy sound far better than their later stuff when they started recording songs geared towards top 40 radio and the average MTV viewer.

5 years ago I started this thread during pandemic.
You know, high school 81-84, Bad Co was in the rotation. They really don’t hold up for me now 40 years later. Not in any of my classic playlists. I recognize their place in history but don’t think their sound ever evolved. JMO.

The new Bon Iver album is great. If Only I Could Wait is a beautiful song.
The Black Crowes are literally the only band I still dig in the last 30 years: true survivors (although they break up more than Hollywood celebs lol).
I keep tryin to get my band to cover this (with no success... "not danceable enough" lol):
Checked off another bucket list artist last week by seeing Branford Marsalis and his quartet. Musicianship at its finest. Justin Faulkner is a beast on the drums.

My nephew is becoming pretty good at guitar, and his favorite artist is Prince. I've always liked Prince, never was a fanatic, but started listening to more because of my nephew. This performance is just wicked.

Yes, saw Michael Lington there a few years back and he's actually going to be back there late May. Very interesting venue.
