What are you listening to?

I’ve been jamming the new Metallica album 72 Seasons since its release. It’s not nearly as good as the first four classics from the thrash era or the Black album, but I don’t expect to to be. They’re 60 FFS.

This might be my favorite cut.

I remember as a young man the first time I listened to the S&M album and was just blown away. I didn't know that musicians could be that good lol. Just sucked me in and I listened to that record on repeat for like a week straight. I don't listen to heavy music like that much anymore, but I did check out the new record and was blown away by the song below. This is like some Sabbathy, stoner rock version of Metallica that just f'n grooves. For a long song it really flows well and the guitar harmonies in the second half after the breakdown are phenomenal. Pretty wild that dudes in their early 60s who have been around playing music for literally 40 years at this point can still put out a song like this:

Great riff here, with great tone in this live version, plus cowbell !! … I miss Leslie West.

I've listened to the album on Apple Music probably 10 times now. While nothing they do will ever touch them in their youth, the new album is pretty damn great and James' vocals sound better than they have in years. They're one of the few bands left that when they release a new album, it feels like an event.
