What are you listening to?

You know it's an indie band when they have lamps turned on in the forest. - lmfao

Sucker for anything post-hardcore. This song seems to be about 5 songs wrapped into one.

Also love wavy rap. Still rocking the new Vince Staples. Production over lyrics when it comes to rap. I don't care what you have to say (mostly), just make it sound good.

That is a trio of WTF is wrong with you.

The original artist's version is best for me. He is singing about a favorite groupie.

This was an old college girlfriend's favorite song. Playing it always put her in the mood.

I saw an article that had the 20 best rock albums/CDs for 2021. First, didn't even list The Pretty Reckless so I feel the list sucked from the outset. But, I hate to admit, I hadn't heard of a single band on the list nor any of the songs from any of the 20 'best' CDs. I am SO GD old and stuck in my ways when it comes to music. I did click on each nominee and listen to at least a snippet of all 20 and, honestly, didn't find anything to my taste (small sample size, I know). Don't like metal of any flavor and never did (I know - TPR have some heavy songs but I wouldn't put them into the metal class as a band, JMO). Indie/weird-ass music - nope. Introspective/orchestral/Pink Floyd derivative - nope, not for me, either. I like upbeat music that I can hear the music and vocals and it's not just distorted guitars and screeching.

I've gotta find some newer stuff to listen to. From relatively newer groups, besides The Pretty Reckless, I like St. Paul and the Broken Bones, Larkin Poe, Grainne Duffy and a few others. But, even on this thread, there is a lot of music I just don't like. Probably too narrow in what appeals to me. 2022 New Year's Resolution: find newer bands to like.

2022 New Year's Resolution: find newer bands to like.

I have tried to do that in recent years, and a handful have made the list, but not many. I also will click on some of the selections on this thread to see what is out there that I haven't given a chance....and much if it I am glad I didn't.

Most (not all) of today's new artists/music has no soul, and that is across most genres.

I forgot to mention one other group that's newer that I've liked: Robert Jon and The Wreck. Sort of roots rock with some songs that really have a nice swing/groove to them.

Cole854, you and me are on the same wavelength. I hear new music and it just doesn't move the needle for me nearly 100% of the time. There is good music out there in the ether and I'm going to try to find more of it. I'm sure I'll wade through a ton of sludge to find the true gems but so be it.

^Just literally pick any music streaming service, and once you start listening, the algorithm will start giving you suggestions based on your preferences. May not be new, but I've discovered a lot of music this way.

I'm conflicted on the spotify algorithm a bit, though. It just feeds you what you've been eating, so you won't stray much out of your comfort zone. For example, I have no idea what is going on with country music these days because it's not my general first choice. So it can also limit you a bit.

Yep, I've used Spotify to find new stuff. Sometimes, what I like and what they say others like are not really that close. But, I've dug deep at times and found some stuff. The algorithm works - it's not foolproof, by any means.
