What are you listening to?

That style of post-hardcore/mathrock, or the entire genre, really.. I see as the perfect middle ground of "talent" and "accessibility".

Where as pop can be void of talent and depth, genres like progrock, jazz or classical arent as accessible, too intricate, and just not as fun (I like all the above, btw..).

Hits the best of both worlds, IMO.

It's all accessible, most people just don't bother to listen to anything actively that challenges them because it's easier to just listen to basic 4/4 stuff as we both know. I think if we didn't have basic stuff constantly shoveled down everyone's throats, a lot more quality stuff and boundary pushing tracks would be popular. Industry just seems to keep distilling shit down into the most easily digestible nuggets for $. sad Digging the bass tone on that track, any idea what their guy plays?

I enjoy DGD and hadn’t heard that new song thanks for posting. John Hess is great as is Tillman. I don’t listen a ton but I enjoy the genre.

When I say Accessible, I don't mean the ability to find the music. I mean more about how... "catchy" it may be. It's why pop music is so, popular and it's why prog-rock isn't. And that's not to say that one is better or worse. Just that as genres get more technical, they seem to alienate little by little. So that's why I admire post-hardcore/mathrock.. I think it's a great blend of technical chops, but also catchy vocals and riffs. Someone once said Math rock is just "emo jazz" and as offended as that should make me, it's 100% accurate.

As for what that guy plays, no idea. That band is very new. No music video, no nothing. That song has the lead singer from Dwellings.

Nice! If you go through this thread.. a lot of my posts are of that genre. Tons of bands coming out in that vein.

For fans of - Post-hardcore, Dance Gavin Dance, Dwellings, anything from Swancore. These guys ****ing slap.

I tried man, even put on headphones, but these dudes fall just a tier below Hail the Sun which, IMO is a tier below their respective bands as well. Something about that genre (and I love a lot of bands from it) just doesn't really hold me as long.

That reminds me, I forgot about Daughters.

This song has been stuck in my head today. That bridge at 3:32 is purdy:

This is an electronic pop songwriter I dig who dropped a collab with Justin Vernon (Bon Iver). Not surprisingly, it's damn good:

It's always a good time for The Cure (that bridge at 2:38 my word):

Maybe the best album of the 90s. That ending guitar swell into the outro? GD what a song:

This dude kinda moves like me when I try to dance and I respect that:

Just some folks in the living room getting down with a groove:

GD what a track (and how can you be a bluegrass man and not love pedal steel guitar?):

Why not?
