We're apparently a lot better when we don't have to play Alex.

The loyalty to some players and disloyalty to others on here is a head scratcher to say the least. POY gets benefit and Willis the doubt. WILLIS has already in limited starts almost equaled the number of double doubles Poy has had in his whole career, yet we have posters proclaiming we cant make a run without Alex. That's just not very astute

I think most posters realize UK needs both of them to make a significant run in March/April.

Our fans know we need Willis. They also know we need Poythress.

Why does it have to be an either or? I'm not understanding where your implication of disloyalty to Willis comes from. In fact, there's probably been 100 threads this year detailing Willis' positive impact for this UK team.

Not a very astute post. Can you count to five? That's the number of players allowed on the floor.

We will not make a run without Poythress.

I bet you have nightmares about Poythress and Skal both playing at the top if their game.

Because for every thread thread praising Willis...you have kybass and others trying to poo poo on it...Alex has had tons more chances to be the guy and its not gonna happen...resting our hopes on him not very sound

I never thought Willis would get his head right and bust his butt to improve but he has. He has really been playing well and we do need him to play well to advance in March. But Poythress in my opinion is a big part of this team.

This isn't a bash Poy deal whatsoever....but at this point in his career...he is what he is...an average basketball player...but i need a mod to get kybass off my ass...takes all the fun out of enjoying this board

Clearly. Thanks to Willis we can put four decent players in the line up. Alex is our best chance to put in a fifth. I still have hopes that it clicks for Skal and Lee.

Again, most of us are merely suggesting that Alex is one major part of any potential success. It's not an either or, but a full acceptance of the fact that Alex will be a significant part to any potential tournament success.

Oh please. You are so transparent. We gotta have 5 players. Poythress is our best front line defender. If you'd quit crying maybe you'd see that.

So you are going to go 4 on 5? Nobody is crapping on Willis. You are so far up his butt everything looks like crap to you.

We have to put a team on the floor. Apparently you don't see that as a necessity.

I agree but I think it will click for Skal before Lee. Lee just hasn't been the same since he had to wear the mask.

Man, I'd settle for Hump right now. Two bigs, only one of which has much game in the paint won't get us far. I agree, Skal probably has the best chance between him and Lee. Liked those 7 boards the other night.

Skal grabbing 7 rebounds was a good sign. I hope he can continue playing like he did last night. We'll see how he plays Saturday on the road.

Matthews had a nice game as well. I liked him at the beginning of the year but before the Georgia game he was kind of disappointing. But he did play well last night. I hope it continues for him.

I'm not saying I'd rather not have Poythress at our disposal. But maybe we don't have to play him as much, because as history has shown we cannot rely on him when we have to lean on him.

I would never have thought that. I like everybody else thought he was the X-Factor.

This weird season keeps getting weirder. Lol
Basketball is all about matchups.. There'll be games were we'll miss him. We would of been destroyed by Kansas if it weren't for Alex.

I'd actually say just the opposite. We lose to Louisville in the 2014 tournament without him. We lose to Wisconsin in 2014 without him. Think about some of the insane shots he blocked against KU last year before he was hurt.

I'd say it's the "day-in, day-out" version of Poythress that leaves a lot to be desired. But what he is so good at is making the desperation play in a big game. His numbers rarely wow, but he often blocks shots or gets tip-ins that other players can't get to. Some of you are pointing to how well we played without him against Florida, but I'd argue one reason Dorian F-S went off is there was no Alex to guard him!

Could we make a deep run without him? Maybe. But I'd much rather have him in the lineup for his athleticism, defense and rebounding.

It is illogical and premature to make the statement that we are better without him based on a sample size of 2 games (especially since they were at home, against inferior competition).

Matt Jones just said he's heard it's not out of the question that Alex may be not back at all this season.

It's getting kind of obvious if/when he does come back he has to take a backseat role.

The Ewing theory might be in full effect.
