Let's bump this thread after Saturday on the road OP. So far...not an unfair point by you though. Rebounding is an issue though but then again it was with Poy playing too.
We just need to put the most competent players on the court regardless of size and let the chips fall where they lay. 4 in 1 out, knock down the threes.
The rebounding has gone down. However the offense seems smoother. Still have a second half to play and a tough road game coming up.
I don't buy that for a second.

Before the KU game AP was probably our second or third best player after the AU loss. He is our best interior post presence right now we will need him if no one else steps up
Absolutely wrong. This team has zero chance to win a title without Alex. They're much better with him.
UK is playing well but make no mistake, they need minutes from Alex.
I can't see us winning 6 in a row without him. BUT, he plays with so little emotion that I certainly notice a better sense of urgency as a whole the last 2 games. All five guys looked locked in, regardless of who the 5 are.
Cal has started to play everyone except Mulder and Wynyard. He needs to get the bench experience. Plus they are playing good.

I'm not ready to say that Kentucky plays better without Poythress, but it wouldn't surprise me at all.
Too many intensity lapses throughout his career. He rarely gives it his all, let alone 110%. That can effect the entire team. It's why you need guys like MKG, or even a Willis to spark energy.

He is capable of being a game changer in the most positive way. Does not matter if he is injured or not.
What I mean is, being injured it causes our team to step up and play better. And when he isnt injured, we rely on him to make baskets and rebounds.

And again, where were those games played? That is the part of the equation you are not factoring in IMO. Let's see how we do the next two road games without him (assuming he is out 2 weeks as they said).
The last 2 games have been at home and we had 2 outstanding shooting games. Poythress needs to play for a run in March.
He gives us solid minutes and five extra fouls for a weak front court. We need him. He always seems to make a special okay or two in big games too

OP is spot on. No way we beat an awesome Florida or Gawga team with him in the lineup.
I watched Murray and Ulis light it up the last 2 games. Do you think Poythress was holding them back?
I disagree, hitting outside shots opens the floor creating better flow offensively. Poythress was playing pretty well before his injury.
Absolutely. I think his confidence in the knee was returning. I noted that his defense was much improved.
I agree, Poythress always has been a very good defender. And he was looking a lot better offensively before he got hurt. I think he will be a big part of this team to make a good run in March.
Yes, we aren't going very far playing 4 on 5 which is about where we are without Alex.
His play-making ability down the stretch was the difference against Louisville in 2014. Without him, UK would not have advanced to the Final Four that season.

Poythress is the only viable presence in the post on offense we have. Skal has a nice touch but he's not strong enough around the rim. Lee has a shooting range of 3 inches, all lobs. Humphries has been a pleasant surprise so far.
Nah, it's just the difference between making shots or not. UK was on fire the last few games. "The flow" had little to do with Alex playing or not playing, unless one is apt to believe that Lee and Humphries made the team more offensively efficient.
I tend to believe that Alex's ability to rebound would have actually made the offense better the last few games.
